Positive Description: The Timucuan Preserve is a luscious green forest located on the northeast coast of Florida. Walking into the trails of the Timucuan, I hear the soothing sounds of birds chirping. I take a seat onto the bench next to the trail edge. Observing the runners pass by I can hear their fast foot steps on the soft earth. Time passes and a light breeze touches upon my skin. I have begun to notice the air as being slightly humid yet comfortable even without the light breeze. The forest surrounding me is colored with all different shades of light greens, dark greens and browns. Some interesting wildlife I observed; a small cat with a cutoff tail foraging through the trees. Exploring more into the trails, there is plenty of information
These great sceneries have the power to inspire a great many of people to conserve and protect the natural environment that Florida has to offer. These trees and waterways have a great potential, in that they have the ability to inspire the next generation of scientists and policy writers, simply because they enjoyed walking through the park during their childhoods. This is extremely important, as ecology directly involves how people interact with their environment based off of the knowledge and respect they have for it.
In the book A Land Remembered by Patrick Smith, the concept of appreciating nature resonates throughout the novel. The first character introduced, Solomon Maclvey, is the great grandson of one of the settlers of Southwest Florida. Solomon constantly expresses his disgust with how developed Miami has become, although it was his family that became wealthy from developing Florida. As Solomon looks upon Miami in A Land Remembered, “Then they came to the La Florida Hotel, sitting like a stuffed frog, rising boastfully above all of them, thirty stories, with the letters MCI blazoned across its top. The
Once they were there, the quarter-mile trek to their place had to be made. It was a small, circular clearing in the cone-bearing woods. The area around the fire pit was dirt, for safety reasons. On the outskirts of the copper-colored dirt were five large, round logs arranged in a circle for sitting. Just a few feet beyond the logs, the forest began again in copious amounts of vegetation and growth, like an untamed lion. That night’s weather was just right. The cool air was
After a long mountainous drive, I arrived at my destination to embrace one of nature’s wonders in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park, Abram Falls Trail. Upon departing the car, a cool crisp breeze brushed my face and the aroma of bacon lingered in the early morning air from the neighboring campground. The narrow rocky footpath looked like a tedious adventure, however a gorgeous, vibrant array of red, purple, orange, and yellow wildflowers blossoming at the entrance made the trail alluring. Navigating the rocky, uneven terrain required sturdy footing, but the quiet stillness created a peaceful relaxing atmosphere. The lush pine-oak forest formed a green canopy of shelter above the trail, offering welcome cool shade, as vivid sunlight filtered through the foliage. A sweet honey fragrance permeated the air, as a stunning scene displayed a cluster of purple and pure white
Trees covered in fresh green moss, ferns and wildflowers line the trail alongside a rolling river filled with cool clear water tumbling across the smooth rocks to the Skykomish River below provide a stunning display of nature's power and beauty.

In life one might often focus on ideas and concepts that do not matter. A false perception is created, and the individual forgets what truly matters to him. To say that “Our life is frittered away by detail” is an understatement (218). Henry David Thoreau’s literature from Walden clearly illustrates how one’s life can not only be frittered away by detail but rather almost destroyed.
A one-day excursion to Watamu’s most famed beach resort, Turtle Bay, is barely enough time to absorb the inviting array of luxury that the tropical paradise offers. The dense Arabuko Sokoke forest whose ecosystem spills into Watamu stirred recollections.

The sun was glistening through the tall, swaying pines. To the right of the trail, a gentle river flowed softly down towards the mouth of the lake. Walking across the rickety wooden bridge, I inhaled a deep breath of refreshingly crisp mountain air. The sun beat down on me as I made my way across the bridge and back onto the well-used hiking trail. The ambient sounds of chirping birds, babbling water, and the croaks of several frogs filled my ears as I made my way around the bend. As I entered the mouth of the forest, I could see my father standing in the middle of the path, glancing upwards, taking in the beauty that had began to engulf us. “We better get going.” he said, looking back at me. “There’s still many miles to go.” I smiled and turned, taking in one last view of the beautiful creekside. Then, with determination, we set out to finish the challenging trek we had started.
