The Korean War was a three year long dispute between South Korea, North Korea, the United States (US), China and the Soviet Union. It was also one of the bloodiest and most violent wars in modern history, both sides merciless and belligerent to the other. Following the war, the Japanese economy improved and the United Nations (UN) was legitimized, which were some very promising outcomes. However, it should be clear to see that the negative effects of the Korean War outweigh the few positive ones. The Korean War caused many evacuations and life-long changes for families, millions of civilian and troop casualties, and it caused lots of damage to many different industries.

Both Koreas took heavy damage, but North Korea had a few especially hard blows - their industrial production was reduced by 60%. In addition to that, agricultural production, one of the major industries in Korea, was 78% damaged. Rice prices had risen 22 times. About 1,200,000 houses were ruined in total from both South and North Korea. From the North, 5,000 schools, 8,700 factories or enterprises and 1,000 hospitals were turned to rubble on account of the war. Along with this, farmers had to give away one-third of their products to the government, at a preset price. It’s said that “The overall burden to new farmers was so enormous (approximately 50% of the value of annual product) that as of the end of 1954 about 10% of them sold their land again and became leased-land workers or left for cities.” (Lee, 101) During the fighting, there was a hyperinflation. The money that was in use increased by 72%. According to Professor Jong Won Lee, who quotes the Korea Transportation Ministry, “...46.9% of railroad, 1,656 roads of a total of 500 km, and 1,453 bridges totaling 49 km were destroyed during the war…” This just goes to show that the Korean War had some dire results on the
