Power and entitlement can often be used to one's own advantage. It can be used to achieve great things to bring a community together, or used for absolute evil to create a rebellion. In the novella Animal farm the hierarchy, being the pigs and Napoleon use propaganda in many instances to manipulate, and constantly twist the truth to the other oblivious animals on the farm to gain power. The pigs abuse their higher power role throughout the novella to manipulate the animals in many ways, one being the commandments. They keep changing them to benefit themselves. “No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets” ( Orwell 79). At first, the commandment stated that no animal shall sleep in a bed whatsoever, though the pigs find a way to maneuver around it to simply get what they want. The pigs convince the animals that because they are the brain-workers of the farm, they need to sleep comfortably. Without question, the animals proceed with their tasks, not even pondering if it is right or not. This shows the ascendancy and influence that the pigs have over the lower animals, and how easily it prevails upon that they are always right. In reality, this is conveyed in many different cases, for example how we as humans make the choice to follow certain rules and standards based on what kind of society we live in.
