The Cold War was not a war in a traditional sense, but more of a nations psychological caliber. The Cold War was a battle of influence: which nation could manipulate the other through fear and take advantage through said fear. It changed what war meant to the people, and the impact of how we see the world. The Cold War began just as World War II ended in 1945. The United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) rose to be the primary two national powers after the war. Most, if not all of Europe was left in disarrayed and riddled with debt. The US and USSR saw this as an opportunity and acted upon.

The Cold War was a state of political between the Soviet bloc countries and the Western powers characterized by threats propaganda, and other measures short of open warfare. The cold war happened between 1945 to 1990.

The cold war was the fourth longest war in U.S History, it lasted from 1947 to 1991 a total of 44 years. During that 44 year span, not one of the eight presidents could end the Cold War. This war involved every single country in the world. It was a global competition between the United States and the Soviet Union to see who could get more nuclear weapons and defense. It was also a war on two different political views, democracy and communism. Finally, President Ronald Reagan came into office in 1981 and brought the cold war to an end. Ronald Reagan is responsible for the end of the Cold war because through him the Berlin Wall fell, there was a great military build up, Reagan's willingness to challenge the soviet Union and his strict foreign policy.

The Cold War was a state of political hostility, lasting from 1946 to 1991, between Communists Soviet Union and Capitalist Western powers. Two generations worth of tension was filled with propaganda, hot wars, threat of nuclear attacks, and developments in missiles and space technology. Domestic policy and American society changed in the years of the Cold War: more money was being allotted to the defense budget, committees were being created to root out any communists working in Hollywood or the government and Americans were living their life around the fact that they could enter into a nuclear war at any moment.

This was a war that begun by political disagreements, harsh anti-communist words from Winston Churchill, and a power imbalance between The Soviet Union and The United States. Though it was a war, a new, lethal weapon was used to emotionally harm the opposing country rather than causing physical damage.

Both the United States and the Soviet Union were at the Cold War which employed nuclear arms race, space programs development race, weapons developments, counter-intelligence, military alliances, and propaganda. This Cold War made the world fear for the possible World War III. Ally nations for both sides were divided into either the democratic or the communism which were either on the United States side or the Soviet Union’s side. This Cold War was a political and strategic method to gain strategic territories for the military purpose and also for the economic gains.

The Cold War took place during 1947-1991 and was a war fought with words. The war was fought mainly between the United States and the Soviet Union, using Cuba as a pawn in their war plans. During the Cold War the alliance between the United States and the Soviet Union was broken. The Cold War was fought from the mainland of the two powers. There were instances where the United States had missiles located in countries around the Soviet Union and the Soviet Union having their missiles in Cuba, but there was no real acts of war. The Cold War began with the break of the alliance between the Soviet Union and the United States and the methods used were new alliances and nuclear powers leading to the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The United States during the mid to late 70’s was in a constant state of alert; millions of citizens waiting for the piercing sounds of the air raid sirens to slice through the night air. America was in need of a leader, someone who could unify a divided country and save it from crushing economic failure. One man saw his need and stood up to the task, his name is President Ronald Reagan. Reagan rose to power as President during one of the most critical periods in not only American history, but also, World history: The arms standoff of the cold war. His actions as a unifier in the homeland and as a diplomat in foreign halls changed the way Americans and citizens of the world lived their lives.

The Cold War was a period in history right after WWII ended and it ended in 1991, when the USSR broke apart. The conflict was between two types of governments: the communists and the capitalism (democrats). The USSR represented the communist side, while the U.S. represented the democrats. Both countries had nuclear weapons and did not want to fight each other directly because they didn’t want a Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD), so they fought through other countries, by Proxy Wars. The global tensions in Cold War affected a few countries in a couple of regions, for example Central America. The involvement of the United States aided Nicaragua economically, militarily, and politically.

The Cold War was a “war” between the United States and the Soviet Union. Nothing was ever fired, but tensions were very high in both countries. It started in 1947 and lasted all the way until 1991 when Gorbachev officially ended the Soviet Union. The Berlin Wall also fell in 1989. These things can all be attributed to President Ronald Reagan. At the Geneva Summit in 1985, he talked to Gorbachev and was able to come to a peaceful conclusion to the Cold War in only four meetings. He was able to diminish the Soviet Union and “win” the Cold War all because of his strategy that had three main parts.

During his presidency, he and his administration have worked continuously to build its image as a true American. Partly because of his image, the public ignored the rise in unemployment, wage cuts, the increase of people living in poverty, an increase in children born outside of marriage, and a growing number of people in prison. Reagan was popular because the audience focused on his image and his promises, not what actually happens.

During the time of the Cold War, many people lived in fear of communism and terrorism. In 1983, several Americans were taken hostage in Lebanon by a terrorist group. This terrorist group was loyal to Iran, so President Ronald Reagan stated he was against Iran. In addition, he told American allies not to sell weapons to Iran which would help them in their war with Iraq. Reagan proved to be against Iran, however, in 1986 President Reagan allowed the selling of weapons to Iran. By the selling of these arms, America would have the seven hostages in Lebanon returned. Then, members of President Reagan’s staff gave some of the money from these sales to Contras in Nicaragua. After several investigations, it was seen that there was a scandal

The cold war was considered to be a geopolitical tension after World War II which involved the Soviet Union fighting against America and the NATO forces. One argument Historians have found to be a potential reason the cold war ended how it did, is that the cold war was won by economic power not military power. The United States of America won the cold war through President Ronald Reagan who introduced policies that overextended the financial resources of the Soviet Union. At the time of the cold war the United States had a much stronger economy than the Soviet Union which led to an increase in the funding of the military ultimately ending up spending an estimated $8 Trillion over the 44-year period in which the cold war took place. President Ronald Reagan could be considered one of the reasons the US won the cold war on economic power.

The Cold war dated from 1947-1991. It was characterized by both political and military superiority between United States, which was backed by its NATO allies, and Soviet Union that led the communist side. The cold war was mainly started after the success of the alliance that was formed against Nazi Germany. This competition supremacy on nuclear warfare attracted other countries that also started making nuclear weapons due to the tension that existed in the world. Both sides directed huge sums of money to their military budgets with each side trying to outdo the other.

The Cold War was a diplomatic war between the two superpowers, USSR and USA. Despite being the two most powerful countries in the world, no actual fighting took place. Instead, the war was fought through various methods of propaganda and threats.
