In America, there are several of controversial topics that are heavily debated amongst the uneducated and the academic community. These topics range from: the war on terror, drug legalization, death penalty, border fence, legalization of gay marriages and abortion. One topic that cannot be overlooked is abortion! Even Presidential candidates often use these controversial topics, such as abortion, to their advantage to encourage people to vote for them in the upcoming elections. Ultimately, when it comes to abortions, one has to deal with the fact that they are renouncing religious principles and committing murder. First, it is important to establish background information on the two opposing views.
There are basically two ideologies: pro-choice and pro-life. The former supports a woman’s right to make a decision to have the baby or the ability to have an abortion. Furthermore, pro-choice roots stem from a 1973 U.S. Supreme Court Ruling ROE V. WADE, 410 U.S. 113 that supports a woman’s right to have an abortion legally. In the decision, it states: “the unborn have never been recognized in the law as persons in the whole sense” (410 U.S. 113, 162). Ultimately, a group was formed called National Abortion Rights Action League that takes on legal action in order to preserve woman’s right to abortion.
