Pro-Choice or Pro-Life?
Abortion is a very controversial topic, and has been for many decades in the United States. Ever since the Supreme Court Case: Roe vs. Wade in 1973, an intense battle has raged forth. People who are against abortion are called Pro-Life; people who support abortion are Pro-Choice. The two main questions people try to answer on this issue are “Is the fetus a human being or not?” and “What is the definition of life?” According to Webster’s New World Dictionary, the definition of fetus is “The unborn young, in humans, from about the eighth week after conception until birth.” (“Agnes,”) Pro-Choice supporters say that the fetus is not a human being and that

They do not want to die, but cannot escape it. Abortion doesn’t terminate a pregnancy, it terminates a child. Statistics show that is most people believe that abortion is just another form of contraception. Abortion is the death of a child, not the prevention of pregnancy. If a woman or couple does not desire to become pregnant, she/they should responsibly use contraception or abstain. Abortion is a surgical procedure that people resort to for an unwanted pregnancy. Contraception is something women or men use to prevent pregnancy. “Nationally, 82% of women obtaining abortions are unmarried. These statistics strongly suggest abortion is used primarily as birth control.” (“Abortion Myths”)
Many people ask the question: “What about in cases of rape?” “It is commonly assumed that rape victims who become pregnant would naturally want abortions. But in the only major study of pregnant rape victims ever done, Dr. Sandra Mahkorn found that 75 to 85 percent chose against abortion.” (Reardon) Abortion after rape results in punishing an innocent victim rather than the perpetrator of the crime. A woman’s chances of becoming pregnant are the same after rape as they are after consensual sex, according to medical experts. (“Experts :”). However, the percentage of rape that results in pregnancy fluctuates constantly because not all women are on their ovulation period at the time of rape (“Experts :”). Here are two women’s
Pro-choice has been a major topic ever since the women’s movements started in the early 1970’s, a question sometimes asked is that, if part of the population are so pro-life and worry about protecting a fetus, how come when the child is conceived they suddenly bash at you for having that unwanted child anyways, and that is hypocritical. In this essay, details include would be why people choose to be pro-choice, NARAL Pro-Choice America, the battle for reproductive justice for women and their right to make decisions for their body, advocates that are pro-choice, proposals for a pro-choice government, and Tomi Lahren being fired for stating she was pro-choice.
As people become aware of the seriousness of becoming pregnant they begin to question the side of pro-life vs pro-choice, however pro-choice allows the mother decide what to do with her body and does not mean agreeing with abortions. Women who decide to not keep the baby are often judged because of their decision without knowing their situation and background. Some may argue that the innocent has no fault, although that is true some are always blinded by their beliefs that they are not allowed to see the bigger picture based on the decision that is made, whatever the decision may be. Because of the Roe vs. Wade, it was legally written that women have the right and are advised to terminate the fetus within
Is abortion right? Should it be legal? The arguments and laws for abortion have been going on since the early eighteen hundreds. Some people believe that the woman having the baby should be able to choose to have an abortion or not. More arguments arose about when a fetus was considered a baby and, if legal, when is abortion appropriate. Another major argument regarding abortion is whether or not a fetus can feel pain. Others think that they should have the baby and either keep it or give it up for adoption. Arguments continued and caused people to split into two different groups: Pro-Life and Pro-Choice. The Pro-Choice group believes women should be able to choose to have an abortion and it should be legal. Pro-Life is the complete
The controversy that is abortion is a complicated matter. It affects Americans by making them choose between pro-life and pro-choice. Can one truly decide to be either pro-life or pro-choice? This choice is chosen by what one truly believes. Some may believe there is not a choice to be made but a side to choose from. “Pro-choice and pro-life don’t engage the central issue that divides them” (Oliver pg. 19).
Governor Mike Pence of Indiana recently signed the House Bill 1337, making Indiana the second state to ban abortion because of the fetus disability, ethnicity, or gender. The bill has escalated an uproar political debate between pro-life and pro-choice advocates.
Rape related pregnancies requires further studying as it is a significant issue and requires more attention. To date there is a lack of empirical research showing how many women choose to terminate rape related pregnancies but studies remain showing that on average 1% of women who terminate their pregnancy is due to rape (SOURCE 4, 6, 8). Though research on terminating rape-related pregnancies is understudied, there is a vast amount proposing that women who seek to terminate their pregnancy as a result of rape do so later than those who were not raped (1, 2, 4) As discussed earlier, rape is an underreported crime. With an average of 1 in 3 women seeking post assault medical care, abortion may be the first time women with rape-related pregnancies access care after an assault (source
Out of all modern social controversies, perhaps the most heated controversy is that of abortion. In today’s society you are either a Pro-life or a Pro-choice, there is not a middle ground. Pro-life are individuals who believe abortion is immoral and should be stop for the wellbeing of women and unborn babies. In contrast, the Pro-choice individuals do not necessarily promote abortion, they just believe women should be the ones to make decisions over their bodies and health. Although the two main sides of the abortion debate have concerns for human life, pro-life activists worries more about the fetus and morals, a clear difference from the pro-choice that worries more for the women and their rights. Based on the points I explored, the pro-choice arguments are stronger than pro-life arguments. Most of both groups arguments comes from peer-reviewed researches from well-known sources to support each individual concept. Effects on women,socio-politics, and fetus are some of the main point of conflicts between the pro-life and pro-choice advocates.
The restrictions and the debate that surrounds the issue of abortion has changed dramatically throughout the course of history and it continues to change until this very moment. All around the world and in every known society, women have used abortion to control their reproduction, regardless of it’s legality. Abortion used to be exercised freely in the United Sates, up Until all the states started to ban It and place a lot of restrictions on it. They stated that a woman can not abort except in extreme cases in which the mother’s life might be in danger. After the restrictions caused a lot of health issues and raised concerns on women’s health, The Government abolished all the restrictions. In this paper I will analyze and discuss three main positions on the issue of abortion. First, there are those who associate themselves with the title “pro-life”. These individuals are anti abortion, birth control, embryo research or anything that can control or cause any harm to the fetus. Second, there are those who at the other end of the spectrum who firmly believe that if a woman decides to abort, then it is her constitutional right to do so without any interference from the government. Third, are those who believe that if a woman is raped or her life is in danger, then abortion should be completely and solely up to the woman, but other than that, abortion should be illegal. This group of individuals are also for birth control and do not oppose educating
Abortion divides many Americans, it is one of the many controversial issue in today’s society. There are two major viewpoints that receive the most attention. One point of view is pro-life which is the belief women should not abort a human life. On the other side, is pro-choice which is the belief women may decide whether to carry a baby to full term or abort it. Abortion is known as the act of removing a human embryo or fetus from the uterus of a pregnant woman prior to the completion of the full term of pregnancy. There are very strong opinions for and against this issue, but no one can deny the vast gray area of abortion. Not everyone falls into the specific camp of pro-life or pro-choice. Many Americans find a comfort level in the gray area where there are restrictions, but abortion is not illegal. 1 A person’s stance on the situation is often determined by how they view the fetus: a part of the mother’s body or as a human being.
In the United States abortion was legalized in 1973 in the case Roe V Wade but that didn't deteriorate the brutal feud on the issue. It's a matter of personal opinion, culture, or tradition that determines if it's a wrong or right execution. There's been a controversy for decades now on whether or not abortion should remain legal, in other words it's pro choice vs pro life. They’ve disputed the future of the women and the child through debates with few if any compromises.Abortion being legal reduces death and maternal injuries caused by illegal abortions.Abortion needs to continue being legal not only because some mothers or parents are financially incapable of taking care of a child
The argument of abortion has been raging since the Supreme Court case, Roe vs. Wade, in 1973. This court case has divided the country into two factions: pro-choice and pro-life. Pro-life advocates argue that abortions are murder and extreme levels of child abuse. While pro-choice advocates believe abortions are a justifiable means to end pregnancies. The pro-choice argument is that the fetus is not yet a human being and its rights should not override that of the mother’s.
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe that women should get to decide what she would do with her body. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth”. Abortion is one of the most controversial topics today. Although there are two sides of the debate pro-choice and pro life, arguments are mainly centered around the Roe v. Wade decision, women’s rights and state restrictive laws.
Abortion. “Only 8% of women who have abortions do not use any form of birth control, and that is due more to individual carelessness than to the availability of abortion”(10 Arguments, 2016). Abortion is a questionable practice, but is the choice of the female parent and may be a considered reasonable in cases where the life of the mother is threatened, the fetus was created under certain unwarranted circumstances and other situations such as it is not the private personal decision of the mother to continue carrying the fetus as well as many other reasons to choose abortion.
Abortion is defined as the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first twenty eight weeks of pregnancy (Google). Statics show that fifty eight percent of women that have an abortion are in their twenties. Sixty one percent show women that have one or more children get abortions. Fifty six percent are unmarried and not cohabiting. Sixty nine percent of women are economically disadvantaged, and seventy three percent of abortions are reports of religious affiliation (Guttmacher). The three reasons as to why women typically have abortions, is when they are not stable enough for a child. If then women was raped, and if it was an accident.
Abortion is never an easy decision, in fact its one of America’s most controversial issues in today’s reality, but women have none the less been making that choice for thousands of years. Studies show that about 43% of American women will have one or more abortions during their lifetime, and women's centers and hospitals perform more than a million abortions on an annual basis. Women have many reasons for not wanting to be pregnant including age, marital status, economic status, and the circumstances of their pregnancy, and thus seek out an abortion. Although many citizens view abortion as an immoral act of brutality and strongly contest its usage, others believe the choice belongs solely to the mother and the mother alone.
