Pros And Cons Of Driving While Driving

Ruth Ellen Galgano: Once I was driving down 65 north bound and saw this lady on her phone. She was clam but as soon as the kids started fighting she became very distracted with driving. There are so many things that can and will distract driving we don’t need to have one more and cells phones are adding another problem to the long list that already exist. I would love to see the law changed on this issue.

On July 1st, California's laws against phones in cars were enacted. The first of the two laws stated that drivers above the age of 18 must use a device that is hands-free if they would like to talk on the phone. However, if they are in a medical or traffic emergency they can not use any device at all. Also, text messaging is unfortunately not banned except the patrol in California has brought to drivers' attention that they could be fined for irresponsible driving. In my opinion, I do think this law is a step in the right direction but I think that every driver should not be able to talk or do anything on any device while driving despite it being hands-free or not. I personally think this a good idea because you can really only focus on one thing so if you are on your phone you are more likley to get in an accident. Using a cell phone while driving causes an overwhelming amount of accidents, injuries, and deaths per year. The vast number of casualties alone should open people 's eyes to the power this object has over their lives. Although the majority of people are in favor of the laws that ban texting while driving, sadly, some people are completely against these laws. It is beyond me that anyone would be opposed to laws that are made to increase our safety and decrease the number of casualties. I use to think nothing of the danger of texting while driving until my friend 's little brother was killed by a distracted driver, and a year later, another friend was killed from texting while driving.

Picture yourself sitting in your car at a red light. As you sit there waiting, you notice a car in the lane next to you completely speed by, and that the driver has a cellphone in their hand. The car disregards the red light ahead, and crashes into an incoming vehicle, killing not only themselves but the other driver as well. Truth be told, there is nothing worth being on the phone while driving. Put it down and enjoy the view. Another reason it should be illegal is because you could seriously hurt or kill you or someone else. For example say you drop your phone in the floorboard and you reach down to pick it up. That's why I agree its a good idea that driving while using a cellphone should be illegal. I definitely think phones should be banned from use while driving because of multiple reasons. One being focus is taken off of the road and is on a small handheld device. Many people get into car accidents when driving, but now with the new technology the death rate in motor vehicle accidents has increased. I feel the need for a ban because I have experienced the effects first hand when We got into a car accident while my family member was on their phone.

I believe all states should enforce a law creating it to be more difficult for people use their phone on the roads. Although as of right now there are no federal laws concerning using a device while driving, many states have taken it into their own hands creating their own laws. For an example Texas has created a law if people use their phone is a marked school zone, they will then be fined 200 hundred dollars. Oklahoma has banned the use of phones for intermediate drivers that only have a permit. Arizona has banned 16-21 years of age from using their phones in work or school zones. And lastly Louisiana has chosen to restrict in school zones and while on the roads they must be respectable of others surrounding them. Cell phones are one of the most demanding products on the market. They’re used for calling, texting, emailing, checking social media, and even gaming. Approximately 1 out of every 3-5 drivers will text and drive at some point in their life. 1 in every 10 drivers will cause a wreck while texting and driving and critically injure themselves and possibly others. Texting and driving is obviously a very serious and dangerous thing, which is why it should be banned in all states.

Some states have made it illegal to drive while using a hand held cell phone. I fully agree with this law because, this will help save lives in the future. I think this law should be established all around the world, and help eradicate distracted driving. I am agreeing with this law because I think it could save thousands of lives, and prevent from teenagers being in so many accidents.
