You’re in your house and someone breaks in. Oh no, gun control laws said you can’t have a gun! You have no protection, so you’re dead within seconds. This is why the U.S. does not need tougher gun control laws. We need guns for protection, we should have the right to conceal one at all times, and the second amendment says we can have a firearm.
First, we need them for protection because, the church shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs was stopped by a brave Person with and gun that had shot the shooter, which stopped the gunman from killing more people and made the gunman flee away where the cops later caught him. By having a gun may save you life and other. The reason we need to have them for protection is because incidents like these guns can save manys lives.
Secondly, we should have the right to conceal one at all times for safety reasons. According to “Should Adults Have the Right to Carry a Concealed Handgun?” “States that implemented ‘shall-issue’ concealed carry laws reduced murders by 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assaults by 7%, and robbery by 3%, according to a 2000 analysis of FBI crime data by economist and political commentator John R. Lott Jr., PhD. Lott calculated that 1,570 murders, 4,177 rapes, 60,000 aggravated assaults, and 12,000 robberies could have been prevented between 1977 and 1992 if concealed carry had been legal in every US state during that time period. In addition, a 2013 peer-reviewed study in Applied Economic Letters, found that between 1980 and 2009, ‘states with more restrictive CCW (carrying concealed weapons) laws had gun-related murder rates that were 10% higher.’Detroit Chief of Police Larry Craig said permitted concealed weapons are ‘a deterrent,’ and ‘Good Americans with CPLs (concealed permit licenses) translates into crime reduction.’ A 2013 survey of 15,000 current and retired police officers found that 91.3% support the concealed carry of guns by civilians.” Crime numbers reduced when states allow citizens to conceal a weapon at all times, while states that made it difficult to conceal a gun saw the crime rates jack up. We should be able to carry concealed weapons to stop crime in its tracks. Lastly, the Second Amendment said we have the
The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people, or about 270,000,000 guns, which is the highest total and per capital number in the world. 22% of Americans own one or more guns (35% of men and 12% of women). America's pervasive gun culture stems in part from its colonial history, revolutionary roots, frontier expansion, and the Second Amendment, which states: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Proponents of more gun control laws state that the Second Amendment was intended for militias; that gun violence would be reduced; that gun restrictions have always existed; and that a majority of Americans, including gun owners, support new gun restrictions.
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The right to bear arms is not just a right given to American citizens by our forefathers, it is a God given right. In response to recent mass murders involving firearms, gun control advocates have heightened the urgency to increase gun control laws. Ever since Eve took a bite of the forbidden apple, evil has existed in the world, however it is of paramount importance to realize who the real culprits of these evils are; guns are not to blame. Just as spoons do not make people fat and pencils do not do math problems wrong, guns do not kill people. People kill people. According to Steve Nolan, Co-Founder of SurvivalWeek.com and publisher of The Beacon, American gun owners use their guns almost 2.5 million times per year to ward off criminal attacks. Often times, a gun does not even have to be fired to scare away an attacker. In the event of a robbery, most criminals will flee simply at the threat of being shot. We continually hear about the evil that guns cause and the detriment to society that gun owners are, however, the media fails to mention the tremendous amount of lives saved by guns being used defensively. When 2.5 million lives are saved annually as opposed to the 11,000 lost annually due to gun related homicides, it is clear that
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Courts have universally agreed, however, that the right provided by the Second Amendment is not absolute and that many kinds of gun legislation designed to protect public safety remain valid ("Gun Safety & Public Health," 2013). The ongoing debate between the gun rights versus gun control has caught more attention as number of cases involving gun violence increased significantly. In one study, it stated that major mental illnesses are associated with increased risk of violent act. In recent years, there were several news headlines on
To begin with, gun control laws aren’t doing any good in their current state. In fact, from a study done from 1980 to 2009 “assault weapons bans did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level.” This reveals us that it isn’t the laws that are in control, it is the people that are in control. To elaborate, another study found that “states with the largest increases in gun ownership also have the largest drops in violent crimes.” With crime rates dropping the deaths and injury rates dropped an “average of 90 percent.” In addition to less crime, one law passed by the government was for civilians to conceal carry, which means to carry a firearm undetected. This law being passed is what caused the drop in crime and violence, and again seeing as how a law for gun carriage is good, it is shown how it is on the people to make the right decisions. So, if there wasn’t a law for concealed carry, there may be more accidents. There may be a scenario in which a bank is being robbed, if and when a civilian is there to incapacitate the perpetrator, no harm will occur to the surrounding audience (Gun Control).
Gun control is a very controversial topic for Americans. Many feel that due to the recent tragedies, Congress should enforce stronger gun control law while others believe that banning assault weapons will not help reduce crimes. In the article titled, “Treasure the Second Amendment, but Ban Assault Rifles”, Miller argues that assault weapons should be banned, but the second amendment right to bare arms should be valued. While in the article titled, “A Ban on Assault Weapons Would Not Reduce Crime”, Merino argues that banning assault weapons would not lower the crime rate because most criminals will just find a loophole.
Gun control has become a pretty big argument. More now so than it ever has before. About 68% of registered voters want there to be stricter gun laws. That totals to be about 2 out of 3 people chose to have it (Shepard, Steven). As to where 25% chose to keep gun laws from being stricter (Shepard, Steven). The other 7% are the people who could care less (Shepard, Steven). I personally think that gun control is a bad idea, it's just another thing the government wants to be able to say yes or no to.
One of the main problems that we have as a community is the right to obtain firearms and the use of these firearms. There are two sides of this argument and this project will try to focus on both sides. Alongside the idea of anti-gun control, people feel that there God given right to bear arms/2nd amendment is being manipulated. The argument begins to come when the weapon control activist begins to question our right to have and carry these firearms.
There are alot of different views on the matter. Some people are for it and some people are not. According to the new york times the goverment has issued a bill that will try to keep handgun out of teen hands that pose a threat to themself and others. Another key fact is that studies have found that in 2012 most young teen that were sent to jail for gun charges in states that have terrible gun control lawswould have to face a ban on gun ownership in states with the strongest control according to the new york times. Now lets switch views for amoment. Now lets say u are a teen growing up in the ghetto that is trying do the right then. Like go to school, or go to work to take care of your family. Every teen has to go through all of this adversity
Gun control is a rising issue in the nation due to mass shootings and murders happening everyday. The 2nd amendment states “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The argument that guns should be banned is foolish, because the facts are is that criminals will get guns and weapons no matter what. Also, the law abiding citizens deserve a way to protect themselves and their families.
The topic of gun control has created controversy among the public and political parties, each with different views among them. I for one am for the 2nd Amendment, to a point. I feel like all law abiding citizens have the right to own a gun to protect their families. After all the mass shootings something more needs to be done to help control these violent acts.
Gun control is a heavily debated topic within the United States of America. This controversy includes two opposing forces arguing that either guns should be of access, or be limited. The availability of guns to American citizens should remain and be enforced. Some people believe that more guns is equivalent to more lives taken. They misunderstand that the object is not what kills another person, people kill people. We cannot blame our faults on something that needs to be operated by a human in order to work. Every U.S. citizen has the right to bear arms as stated in the second amendment to the United States Constitution. The purpose of this amendment is to ensure self protection in an instance of danger. Despite what many people say, concealed
chines they have recently been publicized as. Gun Control: The Great Cop-out by Jared Machaud and Gun Control and the Constitution by David B. Rivkin Jr. and Andrew M. Grossman effectively display the anti-gun control side of this discussion; whereas The Second Amendment is all for Gun Control by Adam Winkler and Making Gun Control Happen by Patrick Radden Keefe display the pro-gun control side. In my views, guns are a helper in a time of crisis when help is too far away, or unwilling to come. Rather than put more restrictions on guns and gun owners, we should maintain the ability to protect ourselves and our fellow Americans through the use of firearms.
For many years, people have been pushing the American government to implement new laws that deal with gun control. Supporters of the argument claim that increased gun control will drastically reduce the crime rate in America. Nevertheless, a majority of gun control arguments are formed from strict control of data and emotional appeal. The mainstream media picks up these stories and broadcasts them to viewers without providing any context to them. While gun control activists assert that gun control is necessary, the American government should not ban guns because of the following reasons: potential vulnerability of innocent people being shot at by criminals and the inability for people to defend themselves against their own government.
Will the United States be safer in twenty years if we start to enforce stricter gun control laws? There are many sides of gun control. Whether you are on the pro-gun control method which makes laws stricter and makes it harder to purchase a gun or if you believe in the Second Amendment, which allows citizens in the United States to carry a licensed weapon. Each side has countless arguments for and against their method that can persuade others in residing with their ideas. In the last decade, gun control has been a sensitive topic to discuss with others. But, due to the recent uprising in gun related incidents, we have to talk about it. America should control guns with stricter laws, because they will eliminate the events of a future mass shooting, will start preventing crimes in neighborhoods and keeping firearms away from those who have been recently arrested or have past felonies.
As more states adopt the right to carry firearms laws, firearm deaths have been reduced. This is an issue in the U.S with 29 major mass shootings with the last 10 years. The issue at hand is that in mass shootings the shooter is able to keep firing until a police officer arrives on the scene and stops the shooter. By this point the shooter will have killed or injured quite a bit of people before the officers could act. This is an important statement because it would lessen the amount of casualties/injuries. With there being more and more shootings occurring in the United States the need for people to defend themselves needs to increase. In many situations if there had been an individual with a concealed weapons permit, the mass shootings would have less casualties. With there being another person with a firearm except the perpetrator and the police officer it would reduce the chance of the perpetrator killing more people. Mass shootings in the United States would be minimized by potential victims being armed.
