Social Media is affecting our society in a negative way. From being the number one cause of divorce, ruining people’s careers, and being a haven for teen suicides, many misfortunes arise due to social media. People may not notice its damaging side effects yet it is slowly but surely proving detrimental to all involved in the game. By taking a step back and maintaining self-control, any human being immersed in the frenzy of social media can enjoy its perks without getting caught up in the whirlwind of unfortunate events.

A prevalent issue regarding social media and interactions exists between researchers and social network users. Social media is currently changing how relationships between people are created. Relationships can exist through people across the world through social media and can produce more emotional bonds with friends that you can see everyday. On the other hand, social media also could present conflicts due to the fact that some of these relationships can become unhealthy and that people could change to be more dependent on internet friends, becoming introverted.

Although it is known that social media can have a useful impact on lives, often times people forget that with a positive comes a negative. The continual use of social network sites will impact teen lives more negatively than positively because they can cause huge distractions from valuable and critical pursuits like education; they can also cause mental health issues and a reduction in communication skills.

One way that social media has helped people is it has worked as an emergency call system similar to 9-1-1. How this system worked was people would tweet out they were in trouble, or need assistance and twitter accounts such as @harveyresucue, during hurricane Harvey, would take the data and compile databases of addresses and names of folks in critical need throughout the storm. Then it would find and attempt to send them help. In the article “Please send help” by Maya Rhodan, Rhodan writes, “‘I have 2 children with me and the [sic] water is swallowing us up.
