Over 168 million kids are being forced into cruel and harsh child labor. 3 out of 5 people in the world probably don't even realize child labor is happening. Child labor is the employment of children to do work that deprives them of any chance of a pleasant childhood. The beginning of child labor started 1700s, when the Industrial Revolution took off. Nowadays, employment of children happens everywhere, not in just third-world countries, but, also in countries like the United States. Child labor is not just one job; it is many jobs like agricultural, construction, service work, and human trafficking. The employment of children occurs because people think it’s cheaper and easier to pay and hire kids. They are most forms of child labor, but the …show more content…

By stopping human trafficking there would be less sexual diseases around the world and less unwanted pregnancies. “Health issues seen in trafficking victims include the following: Pregnancy, resulting from rape ,Sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS, pelvic pain, rectal trauma and urinary difficulties.” “Victims may also receive medical and/or surgical treatment which may have included forced or voluntary pregnancy terminations, in unsanitary conditions, by unqualified practitioners, using contaminated instruments and/or unscreened blood supplies.” Most teenage girls shouldn't have to worried about their health are their age, instead they should be focused on school. By stopping human trafficking the number of people without good health care would go down tremendously. There also would be less unwanted children in the world and most of the time the children are forced into human trafficking
Human trafficking is a public health problem within the United States and Internationally. The victims subjected to the lifestyle of human trafficking can have sexually transmitted disease, HIV virus, and AIDS. It is an estimated 30,000 victims of human sex trafficking dying each year from abuse, disease, torture, and neglect. According, to U.S. government an estimates, of 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders annually, and up to 17,500 people are trafficked into the United States each year (Hodge, 2008). “According to United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), over the past 30 years, over 30 million children have been sexually exploited through human trafficking” (Random Facts, 2015, para. 24).
Sex trafficking is a global problem that involves the exploitation and abuse of girls as well as women. This paper will discuss the problem, with an emphasis on the views expressed by Paola Monzini in her book Sex Traffic: Prostitution, Crime and Exploitation. The paper will look at the causes, consequences and prevalence rates of sex trafficking and will consider the impact of such factors as globalization and women’s poverty in perpetuating the problem or making it worse. The paper will conclude with a discussion of the ways in which a human rights perspective might translate into positive action to eliminate the trafficking of girls and women.
Child labour is a very real problem in the world today, and although it is declining, progress is happening at a slow and unequal pace. Child labour by the International Labour Organization is defined as “work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental development (Diallo, Etienne, & Mehran, 2013, p. 2).” In the most extreme forms of child labour it could account for child enslavement, separation from their families, exposure to serious hazards and illnesses and being left to fend for themselves on the streets (Dinopoulos & Zhao, 2007). In order for certain types of work to be included as “child labour” depends on the child’s age, the type of work,
Sex Trafficking has been a key component in “ degradation of human and women's rights” because they believe that these people are only good for sex (Deshpande Para 1). Often victims who come back, if they ever can, have a hard time adjusting back to normal life. These girls have trust issues towards men, and sometimes even women. They also could have numerous health problems ranging from STD’s to unplanned pregnancy or even worse “ broken bones, concussions, bruises and burns” can all be found on these victims of sexual assault. These girls could also have mental issues, such as anxiety toward older men and women, fear of going outside ever again and social issues. The saddest thing about this is not only are these victims going through a horrible amount of sexual abuse, they also have been ripped away from what they know and may love. Some people believe that women and some men are just objects and they are the ones that are often pimps in the sex trafficking, but this is a completely skewed way of thinking of people.
Child labor is a sigsignificant problem in developing. Countries across the globe(Dilascia, tracey m).one of the most oftern -cited examples of child labor abuse occurs in manufacturing industries(Dilacia, tracey m).one of the most frequently proposed solutions to the child labor problem is the imposition of economic(Dilacia tracey m ). Many international organizations as well a number of European counties oppose placing on countries that permit child labor( Dilacia tracey m).ultimately ,the problem of child labor will not truly be solved until the poverty( Dilacia tracey m).It is estimated that a staggering million child across the world are exploited child laborers(zoltan, melania barto ).while the u.s. often speaks against child labor and has federal and state laws punishing those who illegally exploited children in this country(zoltan, melania barton). In order to prevent child labor, the u.s. must impose economic santions on countries that continue to exploit children(zoltan ,melanina barton). For instance ,the worst forms of child labor convention 182, enacted in 1999 , was designed to prohibit the worst forms of child labor.( zoltan.
“ Worldwide, there are an estimated 246 million children engaged in child labour. Some 180 million children aged 5–17 (or 73 percent of all child labourers) are believed to be engaged in the worst forms of child labour, including working in hazardous conditions such as in mines and with dangerous machinery. Of these children, 5.7 million are forced into debt bondage or other forms of slavery, 1.8 million are forced into prostitution or pornography and 600,000 are engaged in other illicit activities.”
Coupled with the efforts being put forth to help recovery of those that have already been victimized, the war against human trafficking has had a large impact all around. So what about years to come? The March 2011 FBI report indicates that about 293,000 U.S. children the majority being girls ages 12 to 14 have a higher chance of being taken advantage of. The punishment for trafficking children under the age of 18 is further being increased to cut numbers in this area. There are new laws being put into place, as well as older laws being revamped to be more effective. Human trafficking impacts millions of people globally. Let's stop these victims from being sold and let’s fight against this
As mentioned before human trafficking has been an issue in the United States for many years; but where do we start when it comes down to, “why this problem isn’t resolved or human trafficking rates are not lowered?” Well, we should look at the similarities of the adolescent females who are targeted which is looking at the risk factors of these females. After reading the article titled, Human Sex Trafficking in America: What counselors Need to Know, there were three main areas where risk factors were mentioned. Those three areas were: the environment, the socioeconomic background, and the education of the females and their parents. Before discussing the risk factors in an environment, I want to point out, there are some females who chose
“If we can’t begin to agree on fundamentals, such as the elimination of child labor, then we are not ready to march forward into the future,” – Alexis Herman, Secretary of Labor. We cannot advance to the future if we still have child labor. It is wrong. Children have been servants throughout a lot of history, but in the 18th and 19th centuries, child labor skyrocketed. During the Great Depression, it went down. Everyone wanted the jobs to go to adults. Child labor hurts children, they get trafficked and they stay in poverty.
All over the world adults and children are victims of trafficking each year. These victims are in dangerous situations. Every year human trafficking continues to grow and expand every year. It is almost never ending. These victims are tortured and abused and they are being considered slaves. Many women and children
According to UNICEF, as many as two million children are subjected to prostitution in the global commercial sex trade. This issue very personal due to the fact that I currently work with teens who have either been a victim of human trafficking or could one day be a victim. And there is also long term damage that victims have to deal with including long-lasting physical and psychological trauma, disease (including HIV/ AIDS), drug addiction, unwanted pregnancy, malnutrition, social ostracism, and possible death. I believe the first step is to become more aware that this could happen to anyone it doesn't matter the race, gender, or social class.
Imagine that one day you are exhausted from working eight straight hours, but are forced to continue until the sun goes down. How would you feel? Worn out? That’s what 168 million children, all over the world, feel every single second of their lives. When children are forced to do work against their will, it’s child labor.
The men who recruit young females for the sex trafficking business and hold them captive are called pimps. (Human Trafficking Documentary) These pimps can make up to $150,000-$200,000 per girl per year and most of them have from four to six girls. (Covering House) Pimps have total control over the females they are holding captive. They tell them what to wear and how to do their hair. Every penny earned by the sex trafficked women is given to the pimp. Pimps try to make the trafficked women feel dependent on them. Fear is the primary method of keeping the females around. Human trafficking is an epidemic around the world. It doesn’t just happen once in a great while, but it’s happening all the time. Every single day, people are involved in human trafficking. People need to help raise awareness of what is going on around the world, and we are definitely not doing enough to help stop this issue. Also, the way the women and children are being treated is absolutely horrible. They are beaten, starved, and even murdered. In almost every situation, they can’t do anything about it because they are scared for their lives. Society as a whole needs to be more educated about human trafficking.
Most girls who work in the human trafficking industry tend to lack proper medical attention and resources to fully survive. But that is not surprising considering the main aspect of the trade is to break young girls minds. Although as severe as the situation may be, most victims of the trafficking world are not just used in means of sex. Some are sold as nannies and servants and from my personal experience I have seen girls in Bangladesh and India work under the age of 20, some as young as 13 or 14. With the continuation of the trade, it hampers their mental and physical growing process, underrage marriage of girls as young as eight to ten to men much older, and the current rate of the industry could grow two to three times more in the next
