Standard 5: Assess, Provide feedback and Report of Student Learning
Focus Area: 5.1 Assess Student Learning
Graduate Descriptor: 5.1.1 - Demonstrate understanding of assessment strategies, including informal and formal, diagnostic, formative and summative approaches to assess student learning.
On my Google site, I have provided a summative Year 8 Examination for the topic Views and Perspectives. This examination demonstrates my understanding of the Graduate Descriptor 5.1.1. The task for EDFD307: Educational Assessment was to design an end of topic or mid-year examination to assess my students’ achievement of the syllabus outcomes in the unit of work, which was (Stage 4, Year 8) View and Perspectives. The examination needed to draw upon students’ work and experience during the unit. It needed to be based on an assessment plan (a table of specifications) that clearly demonstrated how the questions, syllabus outcomes and the major components of the unit were integrated.
The examination was a 60 minutes test with 10 minutes reading time. The first section of the examination was a creative writing essay and 40 minutes was allocated to complete it. The second section, which consisted of 11 multiples choice questions, was allocated 20 minutes for completion. See the snap shots below.
The multiple choice questions were questions at Bloom’s level of “understand” (Woolfolk and Magetts, 2010, p. 468). Above
While I am reading this book aloud, I will ask critical thinking questions, using the upper and lower end of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Some of the questions that I will ask are the following:
The second section of the exam tests over writing and speaking. The writing portion of this section requires one to respond, in a written format, and provide ideas base on the information given. (70 minutes) There is two parts to this writing portion. The first part, the interpersonal writing, requires one to respond to an email. The second part, presentational writing, requires one to write a persuasive essay about different viewpoints of an issue. Charts, tables, and audios would also be provided in the presentational writing portion. The speaking portion of the exam tests over one’s ability to express ideas vocally.(18 minutes) Similar to the writing portion, the speaking portion of the test also contains an interpersonal and presentational part. The interpersonal part requires one to respond in the form of a conversation. There is five rounds and the test taker is given 20 seconds for each response. The presentational part of the exam requires one to present a cultural topic in the Spanish speaking world.
Assessors need to determine a learner's knowledge and performance against a set of pre-defined criteria. These criteria may be set up to assess learning for an eventual formal qualification in a particular topic or job role.
Assessment Principles. Learning outcomes 2, 3, 4 and 5 must be assessed in the work
(CST2410) final exam was only ten questions long, with 7 short response questions and 3 multiple choice questions.
Guidelines for Test Administration: The quiz will take place during the hours of instruction. Students will be provided 45 minutes to complete the quiz. Students will fill out their selected response questions on the Scantron and will fill out their constructed responses on a lined sheet of paper provided.
To earn full credit your response to each essay question should answer the question completely and average 2 – 3 paragraphs in length. The exam reflects the following course objectives and possible topics:
The function of assessment in learning and development is to provide a measurable way of planning and supporting students’ progress. Assessment is carried out by means of checks and tests carried out throughout the course. Assessors should provide feedback throughout ensuring that learning is occurring and the learner is at the correct level. It is also important that assessor’s decisions are also consistently reviewed and internally and externally verified.
You have 72 hours to complete this test. While some of the test is fact based, it is mostly a set of critical thinking questions and therefore, this is not a test that is to be done with another individual. Much like a paper, it will go through the same plagiarism detection process. Your answers must be unique. You must also use in-text citations throughout your test and have a reference page at the end of your submission.
Prior Knowledge Assessment (10 min): Reading Check (individual work- 5 min): worksheet will be administered to make sure the short story was read at home.
There are two exams in this course: a midterm and a final. The midterm will cover material from Modules 1–4 and the final will cover material from Modules 5–8. Both exams are closed-book/closed-notes and must be completed 1 hour and 30 minutes of uninterrupted time.
Define the key concepts and principles of assessment Assessments concepts must include: S –Specificity, ensuring the task approached is precise M –Measurable, can progress
The goal of educational assessment is to record, evaluate and enable improved student learning. The monitoring of student work, through developing understanding of key subject concepts and their achievement of syllabus objectives requires comparison against outcomes and standards. These outcomes and standards help define the criteria which is considered essential and relevant for assessment. Through correct implementation, integration, and reliability and validity, all forms of assessment should enable improved student learning when teaching is targeted towards syllabus outcomes, objectives and through highlighting gaps in student knowledge.
The GRE consists of three subtests: Verbal Reasoning (GRE-V), Quantitative Reasoning (GRE-Q) and Analytical Writing (GRE-A). The following information pertains to the computer-based GRE. The Analytical Writing subtest is composed of two tasks, the Issue Task and the Argument Task, and is always completed first. The Issue Task allows the test taker to pick one of two essay topics to write about in 45 minutes; the Argument Task is one essay topic with a time limit of 30 minutes. The pools of topics for the Argument and Issue Tasks are available to the test taker on the ETS website (ETS, 2009b). The remainder of the GRE can vary in order among the remaining subtests. The Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning sections are computer-adaptive, or the next question’s difficulty is based on the test taker’s ability to answer the previous question correctly; the test taker is not allowed to return to previous answers for corrections or to jump ahead to later questions (Kaplan, n.d.). The Verbal Reasoning subtest consists of 30 questions to be completed in 30 minutes. The question types are sentence completion, analogies, reading comprehension and antonyms (Kaplan, n.d.) The Quantitative Reasoning subtest consists of 28 questions to be answered in 45 minutes. The question types are problem solving and quantitative comparisons (Kaplan, n.d.) A
Breaking down the examinations into two parts, the multiple choice section and the free response section, really help a student to understand the AP Literature Exam. The multiple choice section of the exam consists of 55 questions and will be taken in 60 minutes. 4-5 selections of poetry or prose will be on the test, often times sans author or title, but sometimes a
