After graduating from the University of Central Florida with a degree in Criminal Justice, the type of career I want to pursue is law enforcement or something that revolves around the field. For now, the two departments I wish to join are either: Orange County Sheriff’s Office or the Orlando Police Department, but as of now, I am leaning more towards Orange County. One reason being a law enforcement officer seems so pleasing is due to the fact that every day is completely different from the last since the situations are constantly changing on a daily basis. Also, it would be a joy to help the community whether that be through community policing or enforcing the laws in order to keep the community safe. Furthermore, as with any other job, requirements must be met before you can be hired. To be considered a good hiring candidate, one must be a U.S. citizen that possesses a high school diploma and is at least 20-years-old. One also needs to have a valid driver’s license that has no prior DUI convictions. In addition, the candidate must not have been convicted of a felony and must not …show more content…
One important career and personal benefit is the experience I will gain from it. As of now, I believe that once I have a good amount of years under my belt, I will take my experience and go elsewhere with it (i.e. FBI since that is my end goal). Another benefit is that if I were to be offered a job at OCSO, the retirement plan is the same throughout all state agencies, in contrast to OPD which has its own retirement plan. As for career opportunities, three things I have always found interest in and wanted to be a part of are: Crime Scene Investigations, the K-9 Unit, or a Homicide Detective. Lastly, being a role model to young children or helping children through a troubled time is a very personal benefit to
“I feel sorry for the person who can't get genuinely excited about his work. Not only will he never be satisfied, but he will never achieve anything worthwhile” (Walter Chrysler). Deciding on what one wants to be in life can prove to be a demanding task. There are so many, yet limited, different opportunities in the world to have an excellent career and make a decent living while doing something one loves. It is limited because there are only a few specific career paths that someone could take to make good money. It is very difficult to make a fulfilling living being a garbage man. There are many different opportunities because, within these specific careers, there are usually various paths to take. Someone who has dreams to be a
Also I enjoy the various jobs that Law Enforcement proposes; you get to learn something new every day. Becoming a Police Officer offers new challenges daily and there are few career fields more challenging than Law
My career goals working at Osceola county sheriffs would be to help and protect the people of the communities I would patrol by giving them the best service possible. I am looking forward to advancing my career by joining a specialty squad such as the K-9 unit or even the mounted unit I also plan on getting as much training As I can in different areas of the sheriffs office building off of what I have learned so far from academy and to keep building until I retire so that I am always learning and growing within the agency and providing the best service I can to the communities I will be protecting and serving I plan on making a difference in people lives and being there for people when they need help or just want to talk I plan on having
I get asked the same question all the time, why do you want to be in law enforcement? My answer: This world has far too many bad people out there and not enough good people. I want to fight the good fight, the best way I know how. By helping the people in my community. With each person I help I hope to spark a change in not only their lives but the lives of those around them. This spark will turn into a flame and then a burning fire of hope, that spreads across this world. This is my
What many do not seem to realize is that a law enforcement agency is not a job, it is a career. One must truly be dedicated and determined to work in the field because it is all about your love for what you are doing.
If high school was the highest grade completed, either a candidate’s high school diploma, transcripts or GED Certificate must be presented at the application/intake process. If a candidate completed some college or graduated from college, their degree should be sent to the Human Resources department. Providing proof of car insurance, marriage licenses and divorce decrees, and driving history are all prerequisites for the job. If a candidate possesses a disability that requires a form of accommodation throughout any part of the hiring process, they are responsible to request such accommodation beforehand with the Human Resources
During the course of my undergraduate work I spent a good deal of time considering exactly what I wished to do after I received my Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and my Bachelor of Science degree in Justice Studies. Ever since I was a child I have had an interest in law enforcement in some way or another. Having spent a good deal of my childhood fishing and hiking I was always interested in environmental conservation, so with that in mind I always had an interest in becoming a game warden or a forest ranger. As time has gone on I still hold on to the ideas and the ideals that I held when I was younger, but now I also would consider a career in a federal law enforcement organization such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), National Security Agency (NSA), or the like. Ultimately I
With graduation drawing near I am excited and ready to put my Agricultural Science degree to use in an industry that I am extremely passionate about. Throughout my time at Cal Poly, I have been working for the San Luis Obispo Police Department as a Student Neighborhood Assistant Program Officer. Before I began working at San Luis Obispo Police Department I had always planned on a career in law enforcement, but with graduation quickly approaching I am not certain that is the career path I am meant to take especially with the public's perspective of peace officers today. I can say that during my time with the San Luis Obispo Police Department, I have gained an immense amount of skills through first hand experiences such as organization, leadership,
First and foremost, law enforcements first order of business is to serve and protect, which is common in their credo, to all no matter what background they come from. Along with that, they are also put in place to investigate crimes, call response and emergencies, and being active members in the community (educate students on safety). Police officers play a crucial role in the law enforcement system. Usually you only need a high school diploma to qualify for police academy training, many officers have two to four year degrees in criminal justice. The median annual pay for this field is usually $55,010, which was according to the 2010 Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Growing up is exciting and very scary. Being young is fun while it last but eventually everyone has to grow and go in to the working field. Law enforcement has been a big topic whether it be bad or good things said the law enforcement is always brought up. When I was young I took a fast interest in business. The moment I decided I wanted to be a cop was when I met my dad’s best friend that was a cop, and businessman. All any person wants in a career is to make a decent living and do something that they enjoy doing. I’ve always enjoyed helping people that needed help, the Kansas career pipeline let me take some surveys and showed me that I enjoy helping people more than I enjoy building myself something, which I believe that is true.
A: To be honest there really is not a high demand. You must be 21 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and a college degree.
For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a police officer. I’m sure, as a little boy, what first caught my attention were the flashing lights and sirens on the police cars. It could have also been then the facts that police officer were permitted to carry a gun and had the ability to run red lights. This is why as I grew up and played games like cops and robbers, I was always the police officer. During my teenage years, I later joined the police explorer program and really started to learn about police work. That’s when I
My whole life I have always wanted to do something where people will remember me. I went threw millions of career choices before I came to the conclusion of a nurse. It’s not something that will get me into History books, but its something where all the people I help will remember what I did to care for them or their loved ones. My mom went to school to become and RN, but dropped out when she became pregnant with me. After that story was told to me, I didn’t want to be anything related to nursing. It wasn’t until my step mom went to school to be LPN that I realized it would be possible for me to do. I saw how much happiness it gave her, and I want the same thing. She loved helping the patients by treating them, and helping their families
My Career Plan The future is uncertain for me, but it is important to develop a career plan that will provide financial support and personal fulfillment over the course of my professional life. To make this transition from school to a professional career, I am going to plan a plan that will help me stay focused and motivated in meeting my goals and objectives. In the next paragraphs, I will explain my ten-year plan for my
I want to become a police officer so I can help people and have an “outside” job. Police officers help people in danger and the enforce laws in a community. There are many types of police officers. There is a normal city police officer, sheriff, state trooper, DEA, Swat, and much more. Police officers don't just enforce laws and help people in danger they also are usually the first ones to a medical seen so they have a little medical background so they can help the person in need until the paramedics can get there. I want to pursue law enforcement because I believe that it will challenge me, as well as offer a source of enjoyment every day.
