Being able to pursue a career or job that you find passion in is a beautiful thing. We as individuals in modern society have the ability to choose whatever we want to be in life. As a society, we are okay with individuals going for careers as long as they “fall in line” with their gender. Usually, men go for jobs where they are able to show their masculinity, strength, or love for automobiles. For example, if a man pursues a job in the automobile, constructions, or sports then everything is okay with the world. If a woman pursues a job that mostly women go for such as a nanny, teacher, or hairstylist then that is okay because we want our women to have feminine or nurturing jobs. When a man or a women choose to go for a job that does not pertain to their gender things can get pretty ugly. Gender Discrimination means “discrimination based on a person 's gender or sex, which more often affects girls and women. Because of gender discrimination, girls and women do not have the same opportunities as boys and men for education, meaningful careers, & political influence” (dictionary.com). Even though women may experience gender discrimination more than men, men also fall victim to this sort of discrimination. Discrimination is the biggest problems people experience in the workplace or when they are trying to get a job that does not fit for their gender. There are several ways receiving gender discrimination that happen frequently in the day to day lives like giving a
The increased need for more workers has led to less sexist decisions and more decisions being base off of qualifications. “As a result... women's share is supposed to increase from 46.4 to 46.8 percent,” Source A (Zupek). This source state that the amount of men and women in the workplace may soon be equal. A contrary justification would be that certain genders have specific qualities and their careers should pertain to that. Well, this argument can be easily disproved. Anyone can have any characteristic. Even men can have feminine
If you attended college to pursue a career you are passionate about and, upon graduation, find out that, because of your gender, you won’t make as much money in that field, how would you feel? How would you feel if you put in the effort to earn a Bachelor’s Degree and found out that someone of the opposite gender holds a high school diploma and earns almost the same salary as you? Or that you could do the same job as someone else but you’ll only earn 77% of every dollar that that person earns because of your gender (Corbett and Hill 2). These are the realities that women face when they realize gender discrimination affects their earning potential.
to pursuing my profession. Especially all of the Physical Education classes that I have taken to stay in shape and stay strong. Many D1 colleges for soccer recommend having them. Weather having a weights class or just simply a sports class. I have always gave it my all know matter how tired I was faller for me has never been a option on success for a brighter future.
After reading the chapter, the author of the textbook mentions that inequality towards women is one of the main reasons why several occupations are dominated by females because of “occupational sex segregation”, which is basically employing men and women in occupations according to their gender, in addition to separating women from manual labor and high-paid positions. This type of segregation mostly puts limits upon women on what they can and can’t do because of expectations/stereotypes being augmented towards children as they grow up, also known as gender roles. Society contributes to this by socializing children of what is expected of them according to their sex, “what is appropriate behavior for girls and boys. This includes defining appropriate occupations for women versus men” (Leon-Guerrero, 106).
Society often views women as objects to look at, even after society has evolved not much has changed for women. Of course, over many decades women have been granted the right to vote, work outside of the home, and for now have control over our reproductive rights. Women were never handed anything on a platter, everything we have we’ve had to work for. In a way, one could say that throughout the years women have been made to feel lesser compared to men. This could potentially be the reason why many women don’t take jobs that are stereotypically said to be “more suited for men”, such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The original reason being that they were once only a man’s job and now it’s more a matter of not knowing about
As a senior in high school I am very eager to graduate and pursue a career. I have multiple options that I'm still deciding on but know for sure that the medical field is where I belong. I am already planning on getting my CNA license during the summer of 2018 to prepare me for the nursing program. I have three potential career paths that I would like to pursue but choosing which one to take will be the hard part. The first career path is getting a BSN at IUPUI then going on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing or earn a Doctor of Nursing Practice. Being a nurse practitioner would allow me to work alongside a doctor or open my own practice.
I received an urgent message from Cynthia Wallace, who was taking calls on the Nursing line. She stated that the patient called and reported that she is experiencing feelings of depression and becoming very suicidal. The patient informed her that she had discontinued he medications around two weeks ago.
While growing up, my mother exhibited what it was like to be self-depend. I watched as she went to the hospital every day so that she could provide for our family. She revealed that if I wanted to progress in life, then I would need to show that I will remain stubborn and well guided. Also, then no one would expect me to either. I wanted to show that I was strong-willed and there was no one out there that could do that for me. I believe it is important to be sovereign for the reason that it will help me become who I want as I develop into my career.
Photography is a subject that connects our eyes with the world by cameras. Many of the beauty in the world is momentary. Photographers are the people who capture the beauty and save it so that it can be viewed by more people and become more useful. There are many different kinds of photographers. They use specific photographing skills and focus on varied fields.
As we look around today there is no set rule on what job we can get because of our gender. People are looking at it as a job. But we were programmed this way and here’s now. We have toys that are solely to be played with by the other gender. Many

Since the age of 11 my main hobby was and is to play football or similar sports that involve team work. This is because I like to work with my friends or other people and it helped me to develop good team working skills that has helped me in many scenarios during the course, such as contributing to the team in the success of our event, which took place this year as part of the course, which also can be useful in future university team works. This hobby also helped me to develop my leaderships skills, because I have been a team captain for two years and it can help me to get good grade at university as I will be able to lead any team work, at my course a. Currently I am a fully qualified FA referee. Being a referee has helped me a lot in my
Men and women are impacted by gender expectations when they look for a job. As children, we are told that we can be anything. Sadly, this is a lie. For example, men get ridiculed for wanting to be an elementary school teacher. People question why they want this. For many, the role of an elementary school teacher is better suited for a woman. They question if he has any bad intentions. Does he want to help students, or does he really have some other agenda? This is a tragedy because children often imitate behaviors they see. Male elementary school teachers are positive role models for young boys. They help young boys to shape how they should behave. Not only do boys benefit from male teachers, but girls do as well. We live in a world that is so diverse. It is important for young, impressionable children to witness this first hand. Gender expectations in employment also affect women. For instance, women are often discouraged from pursuing a career as a firefighter. Many people consider this job to be better suited for males. They believe that women just aren’t strong enough. During World
Many people in society place a gender with almost every career field there is. For example, many people feel that there should only be males in both the math and science fields, or they associate males with a math or science career. Many women are not choosing to go into these fields such as physics or biology, because there are also not enough mentors encouraging women to go into the math and science fields. Society has built this culture to make girls not want to go into math and science because females are not hired in those fields as frequently as males are. Although society may feel that women shouldn’t have a career in the math and science fields, I personally feel that women shouldn’t go by what society says and not follow the societal norm or fit in this “mold” that society puts women in.
Last year I was a graduate student investigating the structure of enzymes involved in RNA splicing. During that time, I worked long hours in the lab and spent late nights at a computer analyzing data. Today, I am a coach at a junior tennis academy. Now, my mornings are free and my afternoons are filled teaching the fundamentals of tennis to young players as I hope to transition towards a career in law. How did I arrive at this juncture? What motivated me to leave the lab and embark on this new path? To answer these questions, let me first explain what motivated me initially to pursue a career in research.
