The title of this article is “Chess queen of Africa” which caught my attention because she represents the people from Africa and her slum, therefore she is the queen. There is so many more examples of why she is the queen in this article. Phiona helps her mom sell “maize” to earn money for food and rent, she has also helped her mom relocate five times in a course of four years. This article is even more special because the author of “The Queen of Katwe,” Tim Crothers writes this article. He talks about how he met Phiona, and different facts the famous chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi. Some of the fun facts are that the game chess is so foreign to Uganda that they don’t even have a word for the sport. This brings a good discussion topic that we can
The Ashanti tribe, is located on the gold coast of West Africa in the center of Ghana it is known to be one of the largest tribe of the entire region. According to David Luca the author of the article The Ashanti Legal System says that the Ashanti tribe was under British control from the year 1873 until 1951, but had little or no effect on the way their society was developed since they were free to develop their own laws, religious, and etc. (Luca 2005). British domination had no effect on their way the society was able to be built is because Ashanti tribe had the freedom to make the society the way they wanted it since British people did not intervene on the way it was being built. According to Buzz Ghana the Ashanti tribe dominated most of the modern province of Ghana from 1670-1902 (BuzzGhana 2016). The Ashanti tribe was known to dominate most of Ghana since it was one of the largest and most powerful tribe in the region since it was one of the most indigenous groups of the Akans (Ashanti and Fanti) of Ghana. They were also dominant because they were very rich in gold so they were able to start their own state without any financial issues, but then came the time of the 19th century, when trade of the slaves was completely abolished, and this was the major reason for the Ashanti Kingdom’s downfall (BuzzGhana 2016). The Ashanti had a major downfall when the slaves were abolished because they relied on the slaves in order to get things done around the kingdom and they used
Hailing from the African state of Ndongo and born in 1581 during the start of Luandan disagreement with Portuguese settlers (Toler 265), Queen Nzinga of the African Mbundu tribe stood up for her country and reestablished power over her people. Nzinga came in a time period that needed her. She got her country of Matamba (present day Angola) equal, both economically and socially, to the Portuguese. In order to do this, Nzinga took measures to place herself in the right position to eventually seize rule and steer her country in the right direction, even though it prompted a steady flow of opposition from her enemies. These initial enemies included the Imbangala tribes and irritated Portuguese Settlers, both of which she succeeded in

Africa transcended before European arrival for many reasons such as their wealth, trade, and developed government.
The Great African Land Race: Expanding European Territory Since the 1500’s, Europeans have been utilizing Africa as a center for trading and slavery. But in the early 1880’s, Africa became more of an interest to Europeans like King Leopold who wanted to expand their control over the world. The rush to conquer the mysterious continent began. Many factors caused Europeans to take part in land grabbing; however, the largest force driving Europeans towards imperialism in Africa was the desire for power through riches and natural African resources, which allowed Europeans to expand their economy and territory. Europeans quickly began to seize as much land as they could in Africa in order to win the great race for power.
Neolithic people that had lived in Egypt began to travel toward the northern corner of the continent of Africa. Records and writing show the ruins of the early civilizations, and the setting of Sub- Saharan Africa had a great impact on human growth. Kingdoms thrived through this time because of the natural resources that the geography of Africa provided. The ancient Kingdoms of Africa were Ghana, Mali, and Songhai. They are located in the western region of Africa. The kingdoms became very prosperous and their achievements impacted the following world that grew in the later years.
The description of women provided in Olaudah Equiano's and Venture Smith's narratives compared to the European's descriptions of indigenous and African women provided in Jennifer Morgan's paper are distinctive. Equiano and Smith write highly of their mothers while Europeans talk repulsively about African and indigenous women. As a reader, one can infer many opinions about each of the writer's attitudes about the expected gender norms for women at that time such as caretaking, breastfeeding or working. The European perspective utilizes their claim to authority on women through dehumanizing different races and converting them into Christians.
Run there shooting at us. In the movie queen of katwe phiona wanted to become a chess player. Slava was running and trying to find food. The theme of long walk to water by Linda Sue Park and queen of katwe is never give up.
In the wake of the industrial revolution, many European countries gained economic power as well and eventually military power. The first to invest in the industrial revolution was Great Britain, making the nation one of the most hegemonic powers since it was able to gain advantage over the other European nation who was involved in the Balance of Power, which was created in 1815, and involved Great Britain, Russia, Prussia, France, and Austria. The Balance of Power was created to help prevent major wars between the nations whereby, every nation stated would have and equitable military based on its size and location however, since Britain industrialized, the nation was able to erode the balance of power and industrialization was able to make size obsolete because of mechanized and advanced weaponry. As a result, Britain was able to surpass the other nations and was able to expand its nation and belief around the. Ultimately, as a result Britain was able to become the most hegemonic nation around the world. One of the locations Britain was able to colonize was Africa by the nineteenth century where it was ultimately able to aid the Africans, by spreading Christianity and helped improve the overall conditions in the conquered area and assimilated the Africans to European cultures, as well as advance the Africans technology.
"I cannot but admire the footsteps of Providence; astonished that I should be so wonderfully preserved”, remarked James Albert Gronniosaw as he recounts his life experiences in A Narrative of the Most Remarkable Particulars in the Life of James Albert Ukawsaw Gronniosaw, an African Prince (Gronniosaw 28). The footsteps of Providence that Gronniosaw mentions in the quote above refer to God’s guidance of human destiny and his intervention in the world. The significance of exploring the role of providence in Gronniosaw’s life is that it gives the reader further insight into Gronniosaw’s perspective on the events of his life, which he believes are not caused by chance but rather the providence of God. In the narrative of James Albert Gronniosaw, providence influences the actions of men, administers vengeance, and serves as a source of guidance. Each of these roles of providence help to preserve Gronniosaw through various trials and tribulations that he endures in his life.
This chapter in Africans and Their History by Joseph Harris presents some of the roots of the stereotypes and myths about Africa in the past and for the most part are still held today. Harris discusses how the “greats” of history, geography, and literature starting a path of devaluation of Africans that writers after their time followed. Harris also denounced the language that these “greats” used to describe and talk about Africans. He asserts that this language inherently painted Africans as inferior and subhuman.
Nefertiti: the infamous Queen of Egypt, known throughout the ages for her spectacular beauty. But Nefertiti was much more than a pretty face. Though very little is known of her childhood, it is made clear through ancient images that Nefertiti was very powerful. Even after her strange disappearance, it is possible that she could have continued to rule beside her husband (as a man), or even assumed the position of Pharaoh under an alias. Like her origins, her fate is clouded by fiction as well. Her tomb has never been found, and most of the evidence of her reign has been destroyed. But, by sifting through history, it may be possible to discover the real Queen Nefertiti..
How about a Cleopatra costume(Egyptian Queen Costume). This is a fairly simple costume and even the make up - which adds oodles of drama and character - is easy to do at home. You can choose what type of costume you like, if you're concerned about modesty, choose a beautiful flowing dress with heavy jewelry. If not, you can choose a more sassy look. She will definitely rule the party in classic Egyptian style, bringing a touch of the hot Egyptian sunshine into whatever room she enters.
Human origins, evolution, and diffusion are important for understanding the history of Africa. African historians take pride in the fact that Africa is most certainly the birthplace of humanity. There is evidence showing that humanity began in Africa by remains left behind by human groups and societies. They have retrieved fossils of living organisms, and even written records, like cave drawings. Dating back millions of years ago Africa provides the best time line of human development because other parts of the world do not have evidence dating back as far as in Africa. Where did humanity and human history begin? There are theories supporting both that, humans evolved from various parts of the world, and that humans rose in Africa then migrated to other parts of the world and continued to develop. The theory that has the most support is that humanity rose in Africa then moved to other regions of the world. Africa is indeed the home of humanity but because Africa is where humanity began they were not able to be at the top of the evolutionary ladder because their global location did not allow them to develop faster. Human history in general is difficult to understand but we can look at the past to learn more about where we came from and how our societies have developed.
Elisabeth says then there will never be any solution to the problem of novel in Africa if the Africans wanted a ‘living voice’. The main problem faced by them was because the African writers unlike the French and the English were not acting as writers but were actually behaving like interpreters of their exotic cultures and that the root of their problem was ‘ Having to perform your Africanness at the same time as you write.’
