When you have a thought of courage usually you think of a hero of some sort, but there is also something called quiet courage. Quiet courage is something not many people notice because it is quiet courage. To me my father, Scott Huffman, has quiet courage, he is an extraordinary human being who doesn’t get much credit on many subjects. He lost his job, he lost his house, and he broke his left leg. Only, that didn’t stop him from doing everything he could to be the best person he could be. Scott Huffman is a man who has quiet courage. My Dad lost his job to save where he worked. My dad worked at Trails Carolina for my maternal aunt Graham. He had worked there for almost six to seven years building wooden cabins, fixing steel drains, and driving to fill the grassy grounds with dried hay for the horses. Only there was a rumor going around about him that he was yelling at coworkers and campers and he wasn’t doing his job. My dad didn’t have any idea what to do, so he talked to my aunt and she said they might get sued for something. When my dad heard he said “Ok, I quit I will have my items out of my office by tomorrow. I don’t want you to lose the camp because of a false rumor.” My dad packed up everything he owned in the dirty office and left. Only a few people believed that he didn’t do anything wrong. When my dad left he decided it was time to find a carrier. My dad looked for a new job everywhere, he could not find a job in Brevard. He was looking everywhere and never
Another courageous person I know is my grandfather, Gary Breeden. When he was younger he was a marine in the Vietnam War. This shows courage because, he volunteered to fight for his country. He put himself in danger to protect, not only his loved ones, but the entire country which is a very brave and courageous thing to do. Volunteering to be in the military also shows a lot of courage because all throughout boot camp and training, the body and the mind are pushed to their breaking point. Breeden has taught me how to help others by sacrificing his life for the greater good. Breeden also displays courage by always putting the needs of others before his own. My grandfather puts his needs second to the needs of his loved ones. Breeden allows himself

Courage is not always easy but could sometimes cause sacrifice. In the book Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry by Mildred D. Taylor. For my courageous character i choose the very important Stacy Logan. He is a segregated 12 year old boy in 7th grade with very brown hair and wide eyes that you can tell from anywhere. Stacy's makes very courageous and strong choices made him look like her cared for what he wanted and cared for his family.. He has done many courageous acts like stopping the bus from getting himself and his brothers and sisters including his really good friend from a very long friendship T.J., sometimes Stacey and T.J. have their ups and downs the one incident Stacey has to get on to T.J. for cheating on the big exam in their class
A courageous action most often is associated with reaching a goal or task of importance, despite the dangers even risks associated with it (“Courage”). For any specific act to be considered truly courageous it must be reasonably thought about and determined that the goal is well worth the risk or danger (“Courage”). Courage so often can be put with words such as heroic, and bravery although with courage there can be a fine line between courageous acts and plain foolishness. All this can make people believe that courage only applies to physical actions. There are two kinds of courage moral and physical in many cases they are both displayed in a single courageous act; however, bravery must come before all else, because they are associated with reaching a task of importance regardless of risk.
Science fiction is a way for an author to express their concerns in the world while using fiction to bring up controversial ideas. In Unwind , Neal Shusterman is able to incorporate science fiction in a way to not only get his points across but to also make the reader think, and adjust the message to relate to one's own life. Unwind takes place in the future where it is an option for parents to choose to have their child unwound, meaning they would be taken from their family and taken apart. Their body parts would then be given to someone who is sick or injured. The reader is introduced to the main characters: three teenagers who have relatable backgrounds to teenage readers in order to help one connect and feel a part of the story. As readers start learning about these characters, Lev, Connor and Risa, new issues develop which create life or death situations that these adolescence have to deal with alone. While this story is science fictional the plot of these kids struggling to find who they are and what their purpose is, while their parents have given up on them, is something most readers can relate to in one way or another, whether it’s being unsure about the future, having family problems, or being told something can’t be done. In Unwind, the author, Neal Shusterman,
Some Kind of Courage, is written for children between fifth and eighth grade in terms of
There seems to be a clear and concise message that Hellen Zenna Smith tries to get across in her novel Not So Quiet. That message implies no matter the war, it is a grizzly and destructive force and it can shake free even the deepest-rooted forms of social norms and values. Smith emphasizes this idea straight from the first part of the novel when Tosh shaved off all of her hair (14). She described how necessity took over in these women’s lives. This necessity caused most of the women to look at their roles in society differently. Some of the values and norms that are questioned in the text are, nationalism, femininity, sexual morality and social standing.
In the novel Guns Germs and Steel, an American biologist named Jared Diamond is attempting to answer a question from a New Guinean politician named Yali, in July 1972. Yali asked him: (1)“Why is it that you white people developed so much cargo and brought it to New Guinea, but we black people hat little cargo of our own?” For over thirty years, Diamond was investigating our inferred history for clues, to answer Yali’s question. He published a scientific opinion that explains how geography is to blame for the dispersal of power, as few societies and civilizations inhabiting in the Middle East had access to resources, such as the seeds of highly nutritious crops alike wheat and barley, and useful livestock such as cow and sheep, which others
Courage can be found in everyone big or small, mean, or nice. But sometimes it is hard to find your courage. In "Touching Spirit Bear" and " Maniac Magee" the author teaches us that people can be courageous by being friends with people they may not like at first and going to a place you might not want to go.

Courage What is courage? How do we muster true acts of courage? Why is courage important? Courage can be shown in many different forms and ways, whether it’s standing up to a bully, conquering a fear or maybe even making new friends. Courage is also important in the book Peace Like a River.
He explains how the mall obtains many of the visitors attention very quickly, which results in them remaining inside the mall for a much longer time than they planned to (Guterson 87). Guterson calls the mall “menacing” until he understands that it is only just a normal mall, the only difference from a smaller sized mall is that it has a lot extra to offer everyone. (Guterson
Queer Theory is the best approach by which to examine Angels in America because using Queer Theory allows us to see/ illuminates the difference between socially constructed gender and sexual acts based on sexual identity. Queer theory argues that gender is a cultural construct, that the social norms of men being masculine and women being feminine were manipulated as a culture to be seen as normal. In Angel in America, Roy Cohn is an attorney with power in his work place; he expresses a strong masculine character with “clout”, strong political power. He mentions that he is a powerful man and how with only a few phone calls he is able to get a hold of the president. These are expectations of how a masculine male is supposed to act, with power, confidence, and without fear. Being a man of politics, Roy lives up to the expectations of what society believes a strong man is supposed to be and how he is supposed to behave. When he goes to see his doctor and he is told that he has AIDS, Roy refuses to admit that he has AIDS and Homosexual. Roy tells his doctor, Henry, “You Think these are names that tell you who someone sleeps with, but they don’t tell you that.” (Pg. 51) He argues that his identity is not homosexual because they do not have “clout”; that he is a man of clout and has a lot of it. Roy states, “Homosexuals are men who know nobody and who nobody knows. Who have zero clout.”(Pg. 51) An example of Queer Theory, Roy tells his doctor that labels like Homosexual, Gay,
The word courage has a lot of different meanings and it can be interpreted many ways. In James Elston’s poem called “Tribute to Courage”, he talks about the different ways people can express courage and how it can be used to help others and themselves. Throughout his poem, James also implies that being courageous is not an easy thing and that it takes a lot of dedication and commitment to show your courageous characteristics to others. Even though courage may seem like a very easy thing to express, many people including myself, have struggled with expressing confidence and courage because we are afraid to fail. Likewise, when you have a dream job or dream goal you are trying to achieve, it is very important for you to express your courage
With the 1960s came a need for change, as an immense amount of smog and toxic chemicals used in agriculture and industry caused, the blue to fade away from the sky and water in America. Rachel Carson provided the catalyst for this change with her book Silent Spring published in 1962, which revealed the harmful impacts of pesticides on almost all wildlife and human beings. People reading a book wouldn’t be enough, though, for twenty million Americans came together on April 22, 1970, to celebrate the beauty of Earth and raise awareness about increasing concerns for the environment and declining quality of life. (maybe add a sentence about structure and diversity of the movement) Without these key events leading to the Environmental Movement’s diversity and unique structure through the 1970s, American values in politics and way of life would not have been able to change.
