Over the years people have evolved both physically and psychologically. Everything has changed, the way people live, and talk, dress, but some of these changes were not for the better. Nowadays it is common to see many people defending their rights, however, there is a problem in society that many do not see, and even prefer to close their eyes to it, and it affects many people: racism and discrimination. Even with major advances in the recent decades, as educational campaigns on radio and television, much remains to be done to reverse the state we are in. Race and discrimination are such important aspects in our culture. And there are so people who think they are above others by skin color, physical appearance, social class, etc.

And in the case of Ricci vs. DeStefano it was a case of reverse discrimination, where members of the majority(white) were discriminated against the minority(blacks).
The City didn’t want to promote only white people because they thought they would be discriminating blacks, and the black firefighters could start a lawsuit against them. But there were other things that they didn’t take into consideration when they decided to cancel the exam. What if the white firefighters were more prepared for the test because they had better support and they studied harder than the minority of firefighters? Sometimes people are so worried about what the minority population is going to do, that they forget to look at the other side.
The Supreme Court ruled that the white Firefighters were unfairly denied the promotions because of their race and the Firefighters won the case. A case like this makes it very hard for employers to avoid possible disparate-impact discrimination claims. It is important to mention that an employer must verify its tests or any exams to identify whether there are any problem areas in terms of adverse impact on a particular race, ethnic group, or gender, and to prevent …show more content…

Racial minorities in the U. S. have spent their lifetimes in a society that has traditionally valued whites over them and to change reality, it is not easy, although we have been hearing a lot about diversity and embracing people of different races. Race discrimination is considered a crime by the Federal Constitution, which provides various forms of punishment for cases of Racism. Racism is a crime of collective order, attacking not only the victim but also the whole idea of human dignity. Race discrimination in the work place is a big issue in the U.S. It can come in the form of inappropriate comments, racial slurs or unfair treatment of employees in relation to work schedule, salaries and promotions.
