Racial Inequality Race has been viewed differently, in the world, these past 400 years. Throughout these years, racial hierarchies have been defined and created by the people’s recognition of inferior people. Skin color is one of many ways inferiority has been seen throughout history and even to this day. The only reason changes in interpretation of race came to be possible was because of regulations that were put into place throughout those years, the laws that were created for them, and of course, the nonviolent civil rights movements. Regulations like the “Las Siete Partidas” (Spanish) and “The Code Noir” (French) are good examples of differences in racial behaviors of different communities. These codes were special laws for the slaves to follow, sometimes giving power to the slave. In the “Las Siete Partidas”, a slave could be freed if he reports a rape of a virgin woman, find a man who makes counterfeit money, sees a military leader abandon his post at the frontier, or informs about a plot against the Queen. Also, if the owner put a female slave to prostitution, she is to be freed because the owner receives money for it and it is considered an “ill will”. Basically, the “Las Siete Partidas” made it easier for slaves in Spain to become free, hence why they had a large population of freed slaves in Spanish America.
