Stereotype is a perceived belief that people of a particular group have similar characteristics. Often these characteristics are negative. The racial stereotype is the most profound especially in the U.S. generalizations and stereotypes about the blacks in the U.S. took permanent shape, especially after colonial times. History passed on to generations about early Americans has played a major role in influencing people’s attitude and perception about African Americans during those periods. Slavery was dominant among the blacks and in most American history, very few Africans like Martin Luther are recognized for great achievements.

From African history, children were seen as a form of legacy to hold the family name when the parents were no more. Moynihan defined the crisis in the ghetto as being composed of unemployment, criminality, lack of education and fatherlessness. In his report, he notes that most young people in the blacks’ society dropped out of school due to teenage pregnancies which put them in a state of constant poverty since they could not get productive jobs due to their poor academic achievements. This is the message that is portrayed in song “Bitch Bad” by Lupe Fiasco. Although the song can be said to have various interpretations, the most striking one is that of patriarchy and the roles of a man. The song reinforces patriarchy in the society and makes it clear that the man has the role to protect his woman by defining her.
Black women, like men, have their share of stereotypes that are ascribed to them. Historically, they have been deemed as being inferior. They are ascribed peculiar derogatory images many of which were the legacy of long-lived sexism and racism. Standing between the American race and sex ideologies, Black women were doubly discredited.
