Racism Double Standards

Throughout history, the main focus of racism has been the whites against the blacks. Whether it is the act of slavery or the formation of groups such as the Ku Klux Klan. Although whites have always been the prime example of racism, this heinous belief is not all kept to themselves. Through the media and the public today, we can clearly distinguish the amount of ignorance floating between diverse races. Hypocritical people around the world take part in the act of being racist, although they also wish to take part in “ending racism”. Although not done blatantly, society releases their prejudices through countless double standards and stereotypes. A double standard is a rule or principle that is unfairly applied in contrary ways to particular people or groups. This way of thinking is remarkably present in our unethical society today. Often times, it intertwines with gender, race, sexuality, and even religion. In the past decade, there has been endless amounts of unwarranted circumstances in which one was allowed to say or do something as they pleased while another got perilously bashed for the same exact performance.

Asia seems to evidently voice their beliefs through their various commercials and advertisements. In May of 2016, the Chinese brand, “Qiaobi”, released their detergent commercial. In the commercial, a black man in a dirty shirt is seen flirting with a young Chinese woman. As he leans in for a kiss, she pops a detergent pod in his mouth and shoves him into the washing machine.
