In discussions of today's racial conflicts during the 21st century, a controversial issue today is whether racism is still prevalent in today’s society. On one hand a group of people believe that racism is still existent today and an effective influence on americans because of actions like police brutality, on the other hand there is a handful of people think that racism has ended because of all the acts of discrimination that have been prohibited, like jim crow laws. Although our society appears tranquil, racism still prevails due to racial stereotypes and social trends which confront today’s generation; racism today seems to be powered off assumptions and opinions power the actions towards a certain race in memory of slavery and segregation. A good amount of the people today believe racism is still existent, others still have thoughts that it's completely vanished and we have full equality. African americans are not socially accepted the same, this was portrayed in Between the World and Me when coates explains,”A white woman had pushed you and said c’mon”.(93-94). This provides a valuable piece of evidence to show the social inequality and racial indifferences.In addition to what had just been analyzed, in the Ballot or Bullet by Maclom X, he states, “A man who,when the sun goes down, takes the basket full of money.”(7). The “man” resembles the white people; the “man” is symbolized its power over the black society. This dominance of the white person in the example explains how the white race over powers the black race in large aspects.
