There are no classes in life for beginners: right away you are always asked to deal with what is most difficult. This quote by Rainer Maria Rilke asserts that saying the right thing is sometimes the most challenging decision we ever do. For most of us, this causes stress, denial, and panic to induce. This quote explains that life is challenging and the main goal is to strive to become great in difficult areas. It claims life is not easy and we need to make the correct decisions about tough subjects. This quote can be reflected and tied into all of the past quotes for the assertion journal. The quote implies that life is not always fair but if you play your cards right you will succeed, just like assertion journal nine. Assertion journal 7 speaks
You start to cower on the ground of the dirty marketplace of Kabul as several members of the Taliban creep past with swords on their hilts. You see one of them slide their eyes to you, and suddenly fear floods your body when you realize that he could kill you in an instant. You accept your fate, but instead of a sword landing down on you, he shakes a letter in your face. “Read this. You are a letter reader, correct?” You are safe… This time. Perseverance is a steady path of persistence despite obstacles. The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis is about the struggles of a Afghan girl named Parvana and her family and how she overcomes them. Parvana shows perseverance throughout the entire book by overcoming the obstacles she faces. ava
“Any fool can know. The point is to understand” (Albert Einstein). Life is an item that most people do not understand. People ask others to answer what they want, instead of experiencing it for themselves; however, mentors help a person get through the difficult points in life with some life lessons. Though life lessons do not unlock all the secrets to life, they help people understand life a little better.
I can relate to the above quote. During my first years of high school, I did not take my academics as seriously as I should have. I did not set goals so that I would not disappoint myself. I have learned my little decisions I made impacted my grade point average and class ranking. Also I realized I needed to make some academic changes.
“He’d do what he always did, find the sweet among the bitter” (265). In the book the Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, the Panama Hotel is on the corner of Chinatown and Japantown. The hotel is located between the two cultures Henry is tied to, the Japanese and the Chinese. The story takes place in Henry’s past when he first meets Keiko and the present, after his wife, Ethel, has died. The hotel acts as the connection in between the two cultures and the two time periods, and symbolizes how Henry does too.
The Help, a compulsive 2011 movie adapted from Kathryn Stockett’s novel . The quote that I want to direct you to is : "You know, courage seemed to skip a generation. Thank you for bringing it back to our family". This quote I think can refer to the theme courage and how it seems to skip a generation. In this essay, I will explain Courage in general, how we can relate this to the book, and how we can relate this to our current world.
Throughout The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford, I sympathized with Keiko and Henry the most. Although both are minority races, they are discriminated against differently. Keiko identifies as 'American', but that does not seem to matter as her family and the rest of the citizens of Japanese descent are whisked into armed, prison-like camps by U.S. officials. I can relate to her since I have been discriminated against because of my ethnicity. It seems easy for some to make stereotypes about other races, especially in a time where everyone is looking for somewhere to place the blame. For example, the discrimination is evident when Keiko and Henry try to buy a record- Keiko is not even acknowledged because she is Japanese.
Its WWII, the world is against you and the only people you trust are the ones who remain close to you. You are still willing to make bonds with others as long as you both have a use to eachother; this use can be emotional or benificial, but subconciusly you know they must have a use to be worth your time. Jews were killed left and right no one stopped it. There was only death; this is the reason only those with a use were worth your bonds. They died and with that bonds were snapped with nothing left leaving pain and sorrow.
Due to details from the text, Louisa May Alcott was anxious to participate, in some way, in the Civil War. First, in paragraph 2 it states, "I’ve often longed to see a war, and now I have my wish. " This shows that Alcott wants to participate in the war because she "longed" to see the war, and when she is able to be a nurse in the war, she says she has her wish. Also in paragraph 4 it states, "I like the stir in the air, and long for battle like a warhorse when he smells powder." From this, I can infer that Alcott is anxious to participate in the war because when she describes the war, she describes it as something that makes her feel confident/happy.
Knowing Self Essay Itzel Evangelista Period-2 3.16.18 Do you try even though you could fail or not try at all? The world has come a long way from what it used to be. There was a whole lot of havoc being caused by the Germans and Russians during the World War time periods. Many people went through severe times, and had to face crucial obstacles. The biggest situation or event going on was the holocaust being caused by Adolph Hitler in all of Europe. One survivor of the holocaust is a man named Elie Wiesel. After everything was over he wrote a book about all of his horrible experiences. In his book Elie Wiesel explores the theme of inhumanity.
As well there is Baba, who is another important character who shows courage by first taking in Ali and Hassan, who are part of the Hazara, a minority group, and letting them serve in his household as a servant, even though they are Hazaras: “Amir, Hassan, and their fathers live together in a well-off neighborhood of Kabul. The Hazaras act as servants to their Pashtun superiors, but are also part of the family, clashing with the social norm” (Spiegel 2007).This was a courageous act since the whole Pashtun community is against the Hazaras living in his household as it violated the normal rules and expectations of the Kabul community and it would have been considered a deviant act in a sense. This does not only show his act of courage but also
The most important scene in this story is when Leila Abranel favorite sister Rebecca committed suicide. The reason that this scene is important is because it impacted Leila Abranel life throughout the book. For Leila, this scene impacted her to become obsessed and paranoid with her sister death. She started to see things differently and question herself why her sister committed suicide. The memories that Rebecca left for her was painful causing her to think that Rebecca is still alive when she was not there.
To begin with Parvana showed perseverance in the book the BreadWinner by going to the jail with her mother to try to get her father back. It’s nearly 100 degrees, your wearing over 2 layers of clothes, you try to find shade in the marketplace but there isn’t much. Your selling all your most valuable items just for enough money for your mom and 4 siblings. when someone is going through tough times but they push their hardest to overcome that time
All through life, we experience various occasions when decision-making become necessary. A number of them present themselves in difficult forms and at crucial points. Most of the verdict we take will eventually figure and describe our track of lives. These are what we refer to as lessons of life. Choices never present themselves in an easy way. In some instance we are always forced to pay a price to achieve something. This implies that we are trading for an outcome we are seeking.
So you might be wondering, if this all important, ground breaking concept is not learned by everyone concept isn’t learned by everyone, then how did I learn it? Well I learned it the same way anyone else would have, through failure, repeated, numerous, never-ending failure. But how is that possible, you have good grades, and seem to be fine. Well you are right, I haven’t gone through a serious world ending failure, well not exactly, but that is not what this essay is about though. I grew to be resilient from a much smaller, less stressful endeavor, a video game.
