Entire ecosystems are filled with unique species, and the frightening reality is deforestation takes the habitat out from underneath its inhabitants (Bradford 2015). Forests have been cleared at a rate so astonishingly fast, that over half of all known forests have been compromised. If this type of behavior continues, the natural world will have to be given a new name, because nothing left will be "natural". Rainforests clearly have an outward benefits, from cleaning the air we breathe, to different diversity among the species who inhabit this Earth. Organismal density around the equator is exceptionally high, yet humans feel the need to clear much of that land for different use. Urbanization and the need for more agricultural space play a critical role in how much land humans clear. What we as a species forget is how all of these trees and biomes impact the world on a grander scale. Water vapor is needed to complete the water cycle, but without trees constantly humidifying the air, the cycle becomes less fluid. Sturdy trees like the ones in much of the rainforest hold the soil and anchor it from eroding. Because deforestation completely removes all the …show more content…
The soil can encapsulate the air that is above it, and without trees to purify the air, deforested soil is left with some nasty, unfiltered chemicals harbored within it (Naseem 2011). Not to mention products that trees contribute to exclusively, like paper and fiber, would be in fewer supply. A driving factor in the clearing of trees for land is the need for cattle to be able to graze (Holland 2017). Cattle is an extremely ineffective way of producing food to feed the world, yet its high demand deems it a necessity. The trees that cover this planet are like natural lungs that filter out the toxins in the air, therefore, cutting down our air purifier for something as negligible as meat seems preposterous, yet it is happening at a steady rate every
Our needs for plants and trees are an essential part of living because they produce our planets oxygen in our air as well as absorbing the Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere. With the increasing need for deforestation happening there is no place for the Carbon Dioxide to go. This compound stays in our air and allows for more Greenhouse gases to be trapped and stay on our planet’s atmosphere. Deforestation has also lead to millions of homeless wildlife and has led to many species being extinct or close to extinction. Such examples include the Polar Bear’s habitat disappearing and melting because of rising sea levels due to methane and Carbon Dioxide levels heating up the
Brazil’s rainforests and America’s rainforests are great examples of the negative effect that deforestation has on these specific areas. One of the rising challenges in our rapidly growing world is the destruction of rainforests and how it is slowly ruining the world that we live in. Deforestation has a lot of destructive impacts on the environment that is surrounding us, one of the most important being its effect on the climate. The fast rise in the world’s population, calling for high demand of resources, is only hastening the effects of deforestation, which can hopefully be put an end to through the enforcement of a handful of simple, key, and sustainable solutions.
Deforestation occurs primarily as a result of agriculture, fuel use and production, firewood, charcoal, timber harvesting, pasture-clearing for livestock animals, and expanding human settlements. When deforestation happens to a country that you live in it can have a huge impact, "These deforested areas almost always end up as wastelands via the processes of soil erosion and desertification, if they aren’t reforested. Many of the areas of the world that were deforested thousands of years ago remain as severely degraded wastelands or deserts today." Currently, the world’s annual rate of deforestation is estimated to be about 13.7 million hectares a year, which is roughly equal to the total land of Greece. Half of the areas deforested gets reforested to some degree, but these new-growth forests don’t function in the same ways, support the same biodiversity, nor do they provide the many benefits that old-growth forests do cause many societies to eventually collapse if they cannot come up with a better
Deforestation is necessary for our survival. For instance, according to "Document 2", a secondary source from National Geography Society, "Forests are cut down for many reasons, but most of them are related to money or to people's need to provide for their families". This shows that people need to clear forests in order to make money and we rely on trees for things like paper and pencils, so without deforestation we would most likely die. Therefore, deforestation are necessary for our survival. Deforestation also creates jobs. For instance, in "Document 4", a primary source from Global deforestation according to the U.N., the annual tropical deforestation in square miles rose from approximately 30,000 in 1990-2000 to approximately 40,000 in 2000-2005. Even though this means more trees are cut down, this also means more jobs for people because forests are being cleared. According to the article "Deforestation", an article from the site ic.galegroup.com, "Forests are also cleared to make way for new infrastructure, including roadways, homes, and commercial properties such as shopping malls. This in turn creates more jobs." Forests are cut down for buildings and roads, and who's going to build these roads and buildings? Workers, that's who. Despite all of this, deforestation is still terrible because the losses outweigh the
Three to six billion trees are cut down each and every year! Deforestation is a huge problem in the rainforests. Because these forests are home to much of the Earth’s species of life. Covering 30 percent of our land forests provide homes, protection, and oxygen for humans and other wildlife in the forests. There are 7.125 billion people that count on the benefits provided by the forest, which is: food, clothing, traditional medicine and shelter. If something isn 't done soon to reduce our carbon footprint, we will not have forests of any type to soak up the carbon dioxide(CO2) in the atmosphere.
Since the beginning of time, every single living organism on this planet has come to depend on one important thing, oxygen. One of the main sources of this life necessity is our trees. Trees are known to filter the air of many harmful pollutants and absorb carbon dioxide, making the air we breathe fresh and clear of toxins. But what happens when this source is eliminated from the environment? Deforestation, the removal of forests/trees, is a major ongoing issue that, not only has been happening for centuries, but is very well still occurring today. Although there are some positive aspects of deforestation, including building more communities, there are also many negatives that outweigh the positives. Scientists have estimated that between the years 1990-2015, the Earth lost approximately 129 million hectares of forest. The results have been catastrophic and include increased amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere, the impending extinction of various different species, and major changes in the weather.
The most appropriate way to address land conflict in the Amazon rainforest is to stop deforestation. Because rubber tappers aren’t hurting the environment. They also make money/ living off of collecting the resources. The tappers have been tapping trees for their whole life. Although the rubber tappers have to put cuts in the trees to get the rubber resources out it doesn’t hurt the trees.
Deforestation is the permanent destruction of forests in order to make the land available for other uses. Half of the world’s tropical forests have been cleared or degraded. Some people ask why forests’ are being cleared. It is typically done to make more land available for other things like housing, cash crops, oil, and cattle ranching. Most of what everyone does with deforestation is said to be illegal. Common methods of deforestation are clear cutting and burning trees. The burning method can be done either quickly or slowly. Quickly for plantation use or more slowly using the slash and burn technique. The many reasons why farmers and other people do that is to get money to feed there family or like it was stated early, to make room for growing crops or livestock. Forests are cut down for many reasons, but most of them are related to people’s need to provide for there families or money. Logging operations, which provide the world’s paper and wood products, also cut a number of trees down each year. Loggers, some of them doing it illegally, also build roads to get to more and more remote forests, which leads to further deforestation. Not all deforestation is a terrible thing and intentional. Deforestation comes in handy when in need to build a new oil place. There are a lot of natural factors that play into deforestation like wildfires and subsequent overgrazing. Most of the deforestation occurs in the tropics, which is a terrible place because they have poor soil for
From 1990 to 2005, deforestation, or the removal of trees, was happening at an average rate of 13 million hectares (32.11 million acres) per year (Hope 247). In many ways, deforestation has been the reason for great economic success which turns people on to the idea even more. Deforestation is an essential element in promoting and encouraging developmental growth. Some places around the world may feel obligated to resort to deforestation due to population increases around the world. The concept of deforestation may seem to have a positive impact on society, but many people fail to consider the importance of replanting the trees that were harvested and removed. Deforestation mainly affects North and South America, but because of the Transamazon
Deforestation is the clearing of trees, transforming a forest into cleared space. Every minute, forests the size of 20 football fields are cut down. That adds up to about 2.47 million each day. The main ways forest are cleared is by chainsaws, bulldozers, and fires. The trees are used for their timber value, that includes things such as fuel, paper products, building houses and palm oil. Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil, high in saturated fats, derived from the fruit of the oil palm tree. The cleared land is used for agriculture, ranching operations, and new road and highways. Deforestation is a major world problem because it is destroying green forest and dominating animal species.
Deforestation is an environmental problem everybody gets affected by; but not equally. Cutting down trees and degrading the soil of an eco-system can change it for the worse and leave it unrecoverable. The Amazon Rainforest is a large and very biodiverse ecosystem that stretches across 5,500,000 kilometers. The Amazon Rainforest is not a stranger to deforestation since the late 1960’s. Deforestation in the amazon forest will cripple all organisms that rely heavily on the forest to provide for a sustainable life, while others not directly impacted may benefit from it. Other people may benefit from the deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest from the profit that comes with the use of land for agriculture/livestock. However, the tribes, plants, and animals, that live in the Amazon Rainforest suffer from the loss of Biodiversity, the habitat and resources that are being taken away from clearing forests, and the reduced air quality along with the increased carbon emissions. Deforestation is a process of demolition towards the ecosystem.
Advocates for the preservation of these forests state that deforestation has devastating consequences including social conflict, extinction of plants and animals, and dangerous climate changes, and that local deforestation in these forests are causing damages that aren’t just local, but global. While opponents claim that tropical forests are destined to diminish as it is necessary for the growing human population to clear the natural landscape to make room for farms and pastures, to harvest timber for construction and fuel, to build roads and urban areas and to develop the economies of the often poor countries that surround the equator.
The tropical rainforest is well known as have the greatest variety of species on Earth. Specifically, the half of all species such as trees, plants, animals, insects on the planet live in the rainforest. That is the reason why deforestation straightly affects to biodiversity and animals habitat, even leads to species
Much of our world’s land is destroyed to provide for our growing population through the occurrence of deforestation which causes loss of biodiversity and soil depletion. There are natural causes of deforestation such as wildfires, but most of it occurs through urban development and most notably agricultural development. We destroy acres of forests in order to have more land for cattle and other farm animals to graze upon, but also to have land to produce grain that won’t be fed to us, but to the animals. It is also seen that a majority of
Throughout the world, people have been cutting trees down all through history, even back when George Washington was president and way before then as well. There have been multiple reasons for cutting down trees, whether it is for survival or to build a house, some industries cut down the forest to make room for factories. It has not always been as easy as getting a chainsaw or wood chipper, before the industrial revolution people used to have to saw the trees and it was a lot more time consuming and physically painful. That is the past, but in the present time deforestation is an even worse problem and it is affecting everyone and everything. Cutting down trees have a positive or negative effect depending on you and the environment around you.
