Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is one of the most renowned stories of love and tragedy of all time. In order to escape marriage to another man, Juliet drinks a poison that will make her appear dead and give her time to escape. Just before she drinks that poison, her mind begins to race as she considers what might happen to her. She believes herself to have the worst fate of all time, not remembering that it was her own rash decision that brought her to the situation. Though considered almost adult in her society, Juliet’s immaturity shows itself in her desperation. A rash decision got Juliet into her situation, and a rash decision will get her out. As Juliet prepares to drink her poison, she sets her knife beside her and tells it “Lie thou there” (Shakespeare 4.3.23). The fact that Juliet’s backup plan is death attests to her desperation. She acts so quickly that she does not have time to look for a reasonable or logical solution to the predicament that she got herself into in a matter of days. Speaking of her mother and nurse, Juliet thinks, “I'll call them back to comfort me” (4.3.17). The fact that she still wishes for her mother and nurse to comfort her in times of difficulty reveals that Juliet is still a child at heart. Her last words before drinking the poison, “Romeo, Romeo, Romeo! Here’s drink. I drink to thee” (4.23.59). she pronounces her dedication to Romeo and their love in her final words before possible death. Despite her worries that the poison may kill her, she is willing to die for Romeo. As she starts her soliloquy, Juliet says to her fleeting mother and nurse “Farewell. God knows when we shall meet again” (4.23.14). She is willing to sacrifice her family and friends in order to be with Romeo. Juliet is seeking a new life with Romeo. Juliet drank the poison, despite her worries, in an act of love towards

Romeo and Juliet throughout the story, show an extreme sense of loyalty that goes along with their deep “love”. This loyalty leads them to kills themselves because they can not be with one another. Romeo is lamenting the “loss” of his wife when he says, “Beauty’s ensign yet/ Is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks, /And death’s pale flag is not advancèd there” (5.3.103-105). Romeo notices that Juliet does not even look dead. He says that “death’s pale flag is not advancèd” meaning the look of death has not come upon her yet. This makes his decision to kill himself even more rash because despite still seeing color in her, he drinks the poison anyways. He drinks the poison because of his loyalty and, dies unnecessarily because of the rashness his loyalty caused. Death had not “advancèd” on Juliet because moments after Romeo kills himself she wakes up. The Friar comes in and Juliet, distraught over Romeo’s death sends him away and says, “O, happy dagger,/ This is thy sheath. There rust, and let me die” (5.3.174-175). Without even stopping to consider what has happened, she kills herself. She calls the dagger “happy” meaning it's good that she found it. She finds this dagger seconds after she learns Romeo is dead. Being so quick to kill herself is impulsive. Her use of the word “happy” shows that she wants to kill herself because she can not have Romeo. Her loyalty to Romeo gives her the incentive to commit suicide, a rash decision. To prove that people act rashly when they love someone Shakespeare uses Romeo and Juliet's tragic
In William Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo and Juliet, we meet the characters and how their actions led to a tragedy. Romeo and Juliet met, end up falling in love, and – since both cannot dream of living without the other – take their lives. While the play ends in a tragic death for both characters, it was their own reckless decisions; though others might believe that it was destiny that played a large role in the lovers’ downfall. However, the majority of the text evidence points to them making their own choices leading to their demise.
Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. Both Romeo and Juliet are young and sprightly teenagers, Romeo being 15-16 and Juliet with the age of 13. They are teens that make impulsive decisions without thinking about the consequences. David Dobbs the author of the article “Beautiful Brains” explains why teenagers act the way they do throughout scientific research and studies. This article helps to understand Romeos and Juliets actions which led to their deaths.
As the story of Romeo and Juliet further progresses, Romeo’s true character becomes more and more apparent; he seems to act solely by impulse. Romeo acts moreso with his emotions, and sudden thoughts than his brain which stores reason and logic. This causes for tragedy and unfortunate circumstance by the end of the poem. This shows how impulsive he is in most of his decisions and how he tends to be very dramatic in everything that he does. When Romeo discovers that Juliet is dead, he almost immediately dramatically decides to drink poison, to kill himself. “Here’s to love, O true apothecary, thy drugs are quick - thus with a kiss I die.” Which shows how quickly he makes wrash and dramatic decisions without thinking it through. If Romeo had not been so careless and impulsive in his decision, Juliet would have awoken and they would both still be alive.

Romeo led several people to their defeat because of the irrational choices that he made. He speaks boldly, but when he comes to action, he behaves like a coward. When he was challenged by Tybalt, the Prince of Cats, he refused to fight, therefore ending his best friend’s life, Mercutio. His quick actions overcome his words and the situation mostly concludes with failure. Many parents or adults wonder why adolescents act the way they do and want answers as to why. Numerous of these actions adolescents make are because of the prefrontal cortex(PFC). The PFC isn’t developed until the mid 20s which causes teenagers to lack on seeing the consequences before they make a risky or impulsive decision. In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, he illustrates that adolescents show impulsivity, decision making, and risk taking.
Didn’t Elvis say it best when ever he said, “Wise men say only fools rush into love”. This idea is expressed throughout the world because so many mistakes are made whenever people rush into love. It seems as though love has a powerful hold on people and they just can’t help what they do once they are in love. It is as if they are almost blind to everything else around them, and also blind to the consequences that might come from their choices that they make. Teenagers seem to be more at risk for such frivolous love due to the fact they have lived such ephemeral lives. Since teen brains are not fully developed it can lead to fickle or poor decision making, and sometimes leads to making choices that result in teen pregnancy. Poor decision
Once in a while many people make bad decisions. Usually these decisions don’t cause them any harm in their futures, unlike Romeo Montague’s and Juliet Capulet’s decisions. In Verona, a city in Italy, two lovers fall in love. The catch is their families despise each other. Eventually Romeo get’s banished from Verona, and Juliet is forced to marry someone she doesn’t want to marry. Juliet takes a potion that knocks her out for 42 hours, and feigns her death, hoping she does not have to marry Count Paris. Romeo assumes Juliet is dead, and drinks a potion that kills him, and when Juliet wakes up and realizes that Romeo is dead, she stabs herself. Romeo’s emotionally decided decisions caused the death of Mercutio, Tybalt, Juliet, and himself.
At times, love can only be obtained through pain and grief. In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the ending shows the extent of sacrificing and coping with agony to be joined in love. Although both lovers suffer during this tragedy, it is without a doubt that Juliet suffers more than Romeo. First, she cannot see Romeo as much as she pleases as she is often confined in her tower throughout the day. Juliet is also trapped into a marriage with Paris as her father claims he will disown her if she does not follow through. And perhaps the biggest piece of evidence showing Juliet’s further anguish is when Juliet wakes up from her deep slumber, she is the one who has to see her beloved truly dead. She gives herself a more painful death as well by stabbing herself.
