Reading Literacy Chart: Cornel Notes Cornel notes have helped me keep my reading organized in one fashionable way. Before using cornel notes, I used to place thousands of sticky notes in my book, and ninety percent of them were useless. Whenever I finished a book, I would have to go through all the sticky notes and see what was useful, but with the help of cornel notes, I just put a sticky where I know there is a useful piece of information. Then, I write the quote down in my cornel notes and why it is useful or why I am interested in it. The way cornel notes have the topic on the top and the summary on the bottom helps me know exactly what the notes are about. Cornel

This connects with the point, “Involve students and parents in setting academic goals and celebrating accomplishments”, because my parents and I had the opportunity to celebrate the fact that I am going to college next year and that I have complete a chapter in my life. They helped me improve my final draft of my essay, and writing that letter back to Mrs. Nelson made them seem they made a difference in my education. I am very thankful for having a teacher that not only cares about my education but connects our parents with us, in terms of …show more content…

Core Values and Beliefs: Technological Skills
Paper Rater Paper Rater as been my go to editing tools for every subject since I have learned about it. Paper rater not only edits my basic grammar mistakes but helps me improve my entire style my essay. It helps me fix the flow of my work, along with my word choice. I am the worst when it comes to word choice. I use basic vocabulary which has a huge impact on my essays. I usually receive a horrible score because of my word choice and sentence structure. With the help of paper rater, I can improve the ,mistakes that I usually never see. “Use technology to obtain, exchange, evaluate, and organize information”, as stated in the technological skills section of the core values and beliefs. Paperrater.com is the only reliable source that I have found that edits and catches at the such a deep level. Technology is used at all times for the purpose of education and paper rater is a source of technology that has improved my work at an different level. It as helped me obtain information that my fellow classmates were unable to identify about my work and provides suggestion for
By creating a student case report, a teacher of reading can develop a holistic understanding of a child's reading development. The benefits of keeping a case report include having diagnostic, formative, and summative data on a student's reading progress combined with anecdotal and teacher observational data which provides contextual information on the student. Therefore, allowing the educator to make more informed instructional decisions regarding a reader as well as provide the most accurate and detailed information to parents and other stakeholders (such as special education professionals or educational psychologists) as needed. With a case report, such as an Informal Reading Inventory, the educator can build on a wealth of knowledge about the readers' holistic literacy (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary) in order to determine what the next steps will be for the reader.
I completed my literacy field experience at Isanti Intermediate School/School for all Seasons in Isanti, MN. I was able to complete my 20 hour observation in a 1st grade classroom (primary), a 3rd grade classroom (intermediate), and conducted fluency tests in a 5th grade classroom. Each class had approximately 22 to 25 students. Also during this literacy class, I was also able to spend a few days observing a 3rd/4th grade classroom and a kindergarten classroom through a couple of sub jobs I completed. I need to note that my understanding was that 3rd grade was part of the intermediate program so I completed half my observation and assessment time with a 3rd grade classroom and completed a 3rd grader assessment. I am happy to say
Or you felt there was a better way to phrase something and could think of how? Or you know, wanted an idea of how good your essay is? Well, someone with some kick butt algorithm skills wanted the same things- so they made a pretty little website named Paper Rater. It literally gives you the ability to have feedback on your paper before you hand it in for grading! It spell checks, correct sentence structure for readability, makes style and word suggestions (yes- even tries to help you beef up your essays with vocabulary words none of us cares to know but looks great on paper!) and checks for plagiarism without registering your paper. On top of all these features- it will grade your paper! Now the website’s admins notes that their program (affectionately named Grendel, with he/him pronouns) only grades the structure and grammer of your paper- grading the arguments made and the content of your paper is entirely in your teacher’s
The Most Dangerous Game Literacy Analysis Everybody loves the bad guy. There is always something interesting about the villain of any story, whether it be their motive, actions, or simply there look. None such as interesting as General Zaroff from The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell. The General lives on an island called Ship-Trap Island, and while looking like a gentleman and acting like one, he hunts those who end up on his island. He is very interesting because he hunts humans for fun.
When I was 5 my life changed completely. My sister and I were abandoned by our mother and father. I was then raised by my aunt and uncle along with my grandparents. I was taken in and loved as if I was their own. I want to show them and myself that no matter what happens in life that I can succeed and accomplish anything I set my mind to. Therefore, I am pursuing an Associates degree and the first generation in my family to go to college first generation in my family to go to college.
Knowing that my parents are proud of me pushes me even harder to accomplish my goals. Attending college has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. It has opened up many doors and options in my life. Although I am in my second semester, it has proved to be the experience of a lifetime. All my life, I have strived for higher education.
Seeing people that will be graduating with me this year not able to go to universities or get further education made me realize how great of a privilege I have. I have been fortunate to have been born in a family that can afford to send not only me, but my other siblings to college as well. This is why I want to go to college, in order to make the best of my education not only
Well I must say that paper-rater is brutal. I was quite surprised by the review. I have always been told I am a well-spoken, well versed person. I graduated High School at 16 years old in advanced courses. That was quite a long time ago, and as I have found out the hard way college is a lot different. I received good feedback from the service and I will use it in the future on every paper I write. There are so many little mistakes we seem to overlook. It broke it down for you and was so easy to use.
I’m writing an analysis of “Battle Royal” by Ralph Ellison. It is told from the first person point of view. This is a story about a young African American named Ralph Ellison, who is trying to be accepted by white society. He is offered the opportunity to read his speech he had written for his graduation at a gathering of the town’s leading white citizens (p.286). Ralph Ellison is told that he should partake in the Battle Royal before giving his speech as part of the entertainment. The Battle Royal is a fight in which several young African American boys are blindfolded, given boxing gloves, and forced to fight each other until one person is left standing in a boxing arena. There are no time
After taking the literacy survey I asked my dad why he thought reading was important. He gave me a look that said I’ve told you this a million times and said, “Reading is the key to success.” This is a common truth. However, the real question is, if reading is so necessary, then what can I do to master it. After twenty-one years of life I cannot say that I know all there is to know about reading and writing, but I can say that through my experiences I have learned to love reading and it has made all the difference.
The difference between PaperRater and Smarthinking is that PaperRater provides an immediate response and also grades the paper. They both have the same goal: to critique and give constructive criticism on writing skills. I found this site to be very helpful. PaperRater provides feedback on one’s word choice, offers to grade the paper, diction and spelling, and a few other key tips (PaperRater, n.d.). I submitted a paper and the response I received back was well needed. I was encouraged to continue with my word choice but I did have some struggles with correct use of transition phrases. Because of this issue, I received a B on my paper. I found this site to be beneficial because it directs me to focusing on the areas that I could improve in and taking the proper steps towards fixing the
However, most of all it gives me feedback on what I written (1) and unlike some of the grammar checkers, it explains in simplistic form what errors were made and give suggesons for correcting. Paper Rater couldn't be easier to uses just paste in the text you want analyzed, choose what type of content it is—essay, research paper, speech, etc.— and submit it for review (Webfreebies, 2010, p.1). Within seconds, Paper Rater generates a report that analyzes several aspects of your submission (2). The premium service will allow me to pull the analysis of what sections match my research sources so it can be re-written. I have just learned that PaperRater offers scholorships for their premum service. I am now back in school but retired from teaching and on a fixed income. Even though the fee for the premium service is reasonable, I can’t afford to pay for the service because I must watch every penny spent. I would like to have the premium service for PaperRater, therefore I am writing this essay in the hope of a scholarship for the premium
Sir Jack Goody and Ian Watt present in The Consequences of Literacy (1963, p. 306) Multiple consequences of the move to literacy. One that I found particularly interesting was early in the paper. Range of vocabulary changes as the written word overtakes a society. The authors use examples from two well-known ethnographies to make their points. Bronislaw Malinowski, the father of the modern ethnography, is well known for his influential work with the Trobriands, his description of the lack of language to vocabulary for unimportant things outside of the direct space that effects the people shows the importance of the land the people use to survive. Conversely Malinowski’s student, Hortense Powdermaker in her work with the Lesu in modern day Papua
It was no longer just a report card that I was getting; in addition to each grade I receive will be a remembrance of my grandmother whom I so deeply loved. I am determined to not only graduate college, but to graduate with superior grades enough to please her. To this day, it is a constant struggle, like any older adults continuing there are
