Realism is seeing the problem as it is and dealing with it accordingly. Many people in political power tend to see problems through a realistic lens. This is because in a democracy you are elected into power by the people so, a politician needs the people to love him. However, who loves you today may not love you tomorrow so, a politician must always be a ‘people pleaser’. While a politician in a communist power uses fear which is the best for ruling because they will not disobey you. How fear can lead to hate which is the worst way to rule because people will plot against you and impede everything you try to accomplish. With realism the end justifies the means however, if you are ruling with ‘love’ you cannot always do what is necessary because the people may not approve of it. If you rule with fear you will get more done because no one would stand in your way because they are afraid of you which is why this is the best way to rule. However, if they hate you they will start undermining you and trying to overthrow you so, you have to keep a balance to avoid self-ruin. People also do not like bad things that happen unexpectedly. So if you plan when things are going to go wrong or when something is too happened people will adjust their schedule accordingly and plan around it. Although the United States usually rule with love as a whole, when a tragedy happens it could force people to change how to rule. This happened when two planes crashed into the Twin Towers on
I don't want realism. I want magic! Yes, yes, magic! I try to give that to people. I misrepresent
Throughout The Prince, Machiavelli encourages the idea that a fear leader is a good leader. Machiavelli makes the point that a good leader knows that it is, “far safer to be feared than loved” (Machiavelli 43) because love allows for weakness. It is easy to keep people under control and in line when they fear their leader because they do not want to have to face consequences that come with “doing wrong”. When a leader is loved, some many look at this as a weakness. Those who fear their leader are is less likely to curate rebellions and revolts because they know that their leader is not afraid of applying punishment. When a ruler is too kind to their subjects it leaves them vulnerable and they are easily taken advantage of, which threatens their position. For a good leader should, “desire to be accounted merciful and not cruel”, and needs to,
Realism starting us out in the class and the creation of television, it describes how shows were created to not only entertain the viewers but expose them to different ways of thinking and perceiving, as “Twilight Zone” and “Big Brother” showed us. It opened us to the thought that more was happening than was shown to us, whether it be an episode explaining a view on McCarthyism or how a writer would drive an audience to favoring certain personnel through reality writing. Exposing us to looking for a subtext rather than what is served straight
The start of realism in America derived from the Civil War. The Civil War in America “was a time of great social, economic, and political changes”(“Realism”). The changes of the American mindset started because people witnessed the brutalities of war firsthand. Realism originally began in France; eventually, realism travelled to American and lasted approximately 45 years. Because realism did not provide explanations for peoples actions, naturalism eventually rose up and took over (“Realism”). Also, realism did not have heroes; they “viewed the individual as simply a person”(“Realism”). The characters paid the price for their bad decisions just as any person in real life would be forced to.

“Don’t go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first” (Mark Twain). Realism is a faithful representation of reality that isn’t swayed by unconscious bias or idealistic aims. Realism arose in literature from the period of the civil war where authors showed more truthiness in their writings (Campbell). Jack London and Mark Twain convey the theme that humans have faults through their different styles of writing in their works, “To Build a Fire” and “The Lowest Animal”.
Realism, according to Howells, is ordinary (Norton Anthology 548). It portrays the story as close to the reality of ordinary people’s lives as possible (Norton Anthology 548). Instead of making the characters,
The states are the most important actors in realism. Realism is a broad intellectual tradition that explains international relations in terms of power. More specifically, when states work in an effort to increase their own power in relation to other states. With Realism there are claims made, such as the world is a harsh and dangerous place, and the only certainty in the world is power. If a state is powerful, that state will always outlast its weaker competitors. In addition to this, the most important and reliable form of power is military power. Another claim is a state’s primary interest should be self-preservation, and due to this, a state should seek power and protect itself. Realism has a very defined foundation, and that is dominance. The looking glass of realism sees the world through recognizing the winner and the loser.
Realism occurs everyday, one may not know but its the reason why know not everyone gets to live their lives to a happy ending, its the reason why sometimes you can't get everything you want in your life. Realism is the attitude or practice of accepting a situation as it is and being prepared to deal with it accordingly. Realism is a trend which takes place in the nineteenth century during which literature depicted life "as is," and focuses on real life. This literary movement frequently depicted everyday life; it follows the rule of a phenomenal world and that nothing is added to your life. It is the reverse job of what a filter would do to all the troubles that one may encounter later in life. Realism is
According to Machiavelli's view of how to be an effective leader, a ruler should be one who is feared but not hated. Machiavelli states that fear is better than love because love is unreliable. All of the reasons that Machiavelli gives relate to how human nature controls men and drives them to commit crimes in order to reach their goals and satisfy themselves.
All branches of realism share some central tenets. Realists believe that the world exists in a state of anarchy. Since there is not a world government to keep states from attacking each other, or to punish them when they do, it becomes very important for each government to be able to protect itself and ensure its survival. It is also why states are considered the most important actors in realism. Due to the anarchy, the world operates
While being feared may not solve long-term problems or may lead to rebellion, a strong, intimidating ruler will bring the best results within a limited time frame. To be loved requires one to gain the trust of the people and to prove one is worthy of it; a task usually fulfilled over a long spam on time, years or maybe even decades. In the 1930 and 1940s, a certain government party in Germany came to rule through harsh persuasion and intimidation. They had the love and approval of
Class is a major part of Realism. In the 19th century, society began to change as social structures and classes were being transformed. Because of industrialization and the rise of capitalism, the lower class could eventually become wealthy. Realism reflected these changes.
The end justifies the means, for the reason of the state; the state is to be worshipped. (http://www.mu.ac.in/myweb_test/TYBA%20study%20material/Politicals%20Sci.%20-%20V.pdf). For Machiavelli whatever brings power is success, the prince cannot be bound by moral and religious ideals. The prince must be both a lion and a fox the fox have foresight, the fox can see the trap, but the fox can be savaged by the wolf, the lion cannot see the trap, but he can kill the wolf. So it is better to be both the lion and the fox. The ruler must possess the bravery of the lion and the cunning of the fox. Double standards in politics are necessary one set of rules for the individual, a ruler may be sly, deceitful, and ruthless.
second realism have to be considered is that structural realism, which is realist in this realism are against classical realists on that human nature is the international of politics. In another word, Realist featured security and competition.
