There were many reasons for bombing Japan. Dropping the bomb on Japan could possibly make them surrender. Japan had been given 2 other chances to surrender but they were being very ignorant and stubborn. When we bombed them they did finally surrender. It saved approximately 1,000,000 Japanese lives and 100,000 American soldiers. With this bomb it saved so many more people.
Now I understand that dropping the bomb on Japan saved many people, but it also killed so many innocent people and it made the United States seem evil. It’s not that they just targeted everyone in the war; they went after all of Japan. The president at the time thought it would help end the war and the Emperor got to keep his “thrown.”
I do believe that the bomb should
1. The bombings killed 129,000-246,000 people in total over two to four months. The Japanese army managed to kill over 300,000 people in a single city over a span of just over a month. People really shouldn't be calling the bombings truculent when Japan's allies, the nazis, started the Holocaust and committed genocide .2. The US even gave Japan a chance to surrender before the bombs were dropped by issuing the Potsdam declaration which stated that if they didn’t surrender, Japan would face “prompt and utter destruction”. Japan did not surrender so they had to face the consequence. The US could have just dropped the bombs without any warning, but they decided to give Japan a chance to surrender first. This shows that the US were not inhumane in the bombings of Hiroshima and
The official reason given for dropping the bomb was to bring a quick end to tht war and save American lives. However, Takaki presents many different explanations as to why the decision to use the bomb was made.
The United States was justified in dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima due to the unwarned attack on civilians and docked naval ships at Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. For example, the bomb displayed the power the U.S wielded when they dropped it on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It showed other countries that the United States had weapons, and would use them. This
was fully justified in dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, because of the unprovoked and brutal attacks on civilians, grounded airplanes, and the docked U.S. Pacific fleet by the Japanese. By retaliating with the atomic bomb to end the war the United States showed the world the power and weapons of mass destruction that it possessed and that it was not afraid to use them. This also issued a warning to the Soviet Union, who at the time was our ally, but was slowly turning into an enemy. In addition to showing the world the United States power, the atomic bombs crushed Japan not just physically, but also morally giving them no other option, but to surrender. Japan was on the edge of surrender with a great amount of inner turmoil, but Japans military leaders had declared no surrender and ordered their people to fight to the death of the last man, woman, and child, so in using the atomic bomb we forced them to the breaking point and saved millions of lives. Without the dropping of the atomic bombs the U.S. would have invaded the Japanese homeland in Operation Downfall where a great slaughter would have ensued. Nearly 500,000 Purple Heart medals were pre-made in anticipation of the invasion, but the atomic bombs saved this massive loss of life. The results brought about by the atomic bombs were very devastating and gruesome; they caused thousands of deaths and injuries and should not be employed except in the most dire
Dropping the bomb wasn't the right decision to make, because many people lost their lives and it wasn't right to make that move. On December 7, 1941 the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and on December 8, 1941 the president of the United States asked the congress to declare war on Japan. That’s what made the United States enter the war. When they attacked at that day, the Japanese destroyed 5 battle ships and another 19 ships. The United States kept fighting with Japan until 1945 and
One pro of dropping the bomb is the canceling of the land invasion. This is perhaps one of the most important reason. Not having a land inasion was important for not only us, but the Japanese also. Even though they suffered many casualties, they would have suffered more on land. Also, if we would have fought on land, then the Japanese would have killed and made our prisoners of war suffer. Our soldiers had already endured enough pain in the Bataan Death March where 78,000 prisoners of war had to march 65 miles to Japanese prison camp. We faced many deaths there and weren’t going to repeat something like that.
The dropping of the atomic bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was justifiable. The Emperor of Japan, Emperor hirohito would have never have accepted to surrender. Another reason is that Japan had killed a lot of people during Pearl Harbor. Overall the bombing’s actually saved both lives the Americans and Japanese due to the bombing of Japan it ended WW2 overall. In 1945, so that's when Japan leaders knew they were not going to win WW2.
After the Japanese dropped the bomb on Pearl Harbor, the United States took serious offense to it. The Americans dropped the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki because of them dropping the bomb on Pearl Harbor. America dropped the bomb because President Harry Truman commanded that if the Japanese made any attack on us, we would attack them. This bomb badly affected Japan. At least 140,000 Japanese people died, including 20,000 soldiers by December of 1945. At least 90% of the deceased were killed within two weeks of the bomb being dropped. 92% of 76,000 buildings were destroyed. (“Hiroshima Committee”)
The justification for why the United States dropped the bomb was because they wanted to completely destroy Japan’s power. They wanted full control over the war and wanted to strip Japan of everything they had such as, “their docks, their factories and their communications”. With the atomic bomb the US achieved this. The atomic bomb provided a significant amount of power for the US. It set a precedent for what the US is capable of and the fact that this type of bomb was only used once shows the fear associated with it. It created a bad image for the US and they are now looked down upon because of their decision to use this bomb. The United States should not have used the atomic bomb on Japan because it went against all that they stood for
Everybody who has learned about the bombing of Hiroshima has wondered why we did it. We have quite a few reasons to have bombed the Japanese. The Japanese bombed us first and with no real reason at all. “John Hersey states, ‘ The anger of many hibakusha, directed at first against the Americans for dropping the bomb, had by now subtly modulated toward their own government, for having involved the country in a rash and doomed aggression,’ (135). Japan’s people didn’t even agree with its government.
The first reason we should have bombed Japan is because it saved many of lives for America. It prevented American troops from going and fighting more than they had to. The second reason we should have dropped the bomb is that it demonstrated lethality amongst America. It demonstrated lethality by convincing the world that it had too much power. Also, we should have dropped the bomb because it created peace amongst the world. It
The American government makes themselves seem as if they were put into a war they did not want but that since the Japanese started the war they must finish it. The president during his speech on August 6th, 1945 said, “It was to spare the Japanese people from utter destruction that the ultimatum of July 26 was issued at the Potsdam. There leaders promptly rejected that ultimatum. If they do not now accept our terms they many accept the rain of ruins from the air the like of which has never been seen on this earth.” (Press Release By The White House.)Saying that they gave the Japanese people the chance to surrender but they did not accept is a way in which they justify killing and destroying a city. Even though Truman compares what the bomb does to Hitler’s destruction, he justifies there reason to use it by saying that they give them a warning, which was something that Hitler would
This all began from a simple mis-understanding and disagreement in 1939 - 1945, the beginning and the end of World War II . It started in the late WWII, when Japan was one of the most powerful country in the war, the conflict between the two countries began when Japan attacked the coast of North America and it hit the Hawaii Islands; it is famous by the name Pearl Harbor, this made a completely big change in the history resulting of a lot of deaths and also the believed reason of why the United States bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Although Japan was practically defeated, the U.S’s reason was just to make sure that Japan would not be able to do more things and to make them surrender so that WWII will be officially over. Many people weren't
The USA had no right to bomb three cities because they killed thousands of women, children and elderly people. They were winning anyway so it wasn’t necessary and it destroyed years of infrastructure and put irreplaceable damage to the environment and generations of people born to parents from Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The horrific fire raids of Tokyo also killed thousands. Some people think however that it was retaliation for the bombing of pearl harbour and needed to be done to save the war from continuing. It was a scare tactic used by America to try and become a more powerful and fear instilling nation to prevent people from messing with America.
Much controversy comes to mind when thinking about the events of World War II. Maybe one of the most controversial topics surrounding World War II is that of the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima, and Nagasaki, Japan. Many historians and scholars have spent much time researching this topic and, through the examination of numerous records and manuscripts, have been able to answer many of the questions surrounding this topic; like why President Truman, and his administration, chose to use atomic weapons against Japan. While many experts can agree on his reason, they still disagree on the
