To begin with, professional athlete’s career last only in few years so they need to be paid a lot of money, if the athletes got hurt the money they get by playing will help them pay for the hospital bill so they need to be paid a lot of money, and the athletes help bring in billions of dollars for their leagues and TV network so they deserve to be paid a lot of money.

Those include basketball, football, baseball, hockey, tennis, and the list goes on to any athlete that gets paid to play. These athletes train really hard and for long hours to be the best at what they do. Fans pay to watch them perform because they really enjoy seeing them. Like other entertainers, such as actors and singers, athletes are paid large amounts for their performances. But, some people think that these athletes are being paid exorbitant amounts of money, whom they don’t deserve, because they believe high salaries should go to doctors and firefighters, who save the lives of others in their excruciating work. While others believe that athletes’ sacrifices to their health, and their dedicated time and energy to achieve their goals and dreams should be definitely be rewarded with a higher salary than most people. To look into the future, it is obvious that this issue’s outcome will open up revealing truths about an athlete’s salary. However, athletes are definitely not overpaid. If their salary was any lower, their hard work and bloodshed would go unnoticed. The risks of their overall health they experience daily would never be supported if those risks become a reality.

Athletes are only playing a few months out of the year and only play a limited number of games , with the exception of playing a few extra if moving on to play in a championship. Most athletes are getting paid ridiculous amounts for short term contracts; for example David Beckham is getting paid 25 million dollars a year for five years which is way more than the majority of people make in their whole life. All of these athletes are constantly getting themselves into drug and alcohol problems and continuing to get their large paycheck with what is only a small fine to them. (Hays) Many people try to argue that athletes are paid so much because they are at such high risk of getting injured. If these athletes are at such a high risk of getting injured then they consider going into a different field.

That huge gap between the income of a doctor and a professional athlete shows that professional athletes are overpaid by a lot. The income of a professional athlete should be lowered and the income of important jobs should be raised higher than they are now. The way that professional athletes risk their health to potential injuries may affect their salary, but they should only get paid a normal amount of money and get more money when injured.
