What are the reasons for Professional Athletes being overpaid? Athletes are paid millions of dollars each year to play a sport that was most likely played as a kid. Suddenly, they are now being paid extremely high salaries each year to perform on television. The reasons why Professional Athletes are being paid millions of dollars a year is because performing on national television, long-term financial and social consequences, and endorsements. Professional athletes are being paid millions of dollars to entertain the world each day during the fall season. Watching the athletes perform each day results in making athletes earn a ridiculous amount of money over time. For example, a baseball game ticket cost about $28 per ticket to attend. Football fans have to shell out even more—an average of $82 per ticket(Anastasia). Many fans will argue to say, “it is worth the money” to support his or her favorite team. However, by paying so much for a ticket will only increase the cost of a ticket for future games. Which will make fans pay even more out of pocket.
