YES! I read an article called, “Should the school day start later?” and my answer to that is yes, it should. The article had many reasons why school should or shouldn’t start later but as you can see, I chose the yes side of this argument. In this essay, I will give you many reason why yes is the better answer along with reasons from the text and real life examples to support my opinion. In just 3 simple paragraphs, I will show you why it’s a good idea to start school earlier and why it’s also a bad idea. Let’s get started.
To start off, I will be informing you the pro side of this argument. First, kids will get more sleep and we all know that sleep is very important for a school day and just a normal day in general. Also, students

One reason is that, it will or would take a lot of time, effort, and work to change the start of a school day. Administrators would have to probably have to do a ton of paperwork to make it official and to finalize things and it would just take too much time. Another reason is that parents might rely on their older children for being a caregiver after school. If school starts later it has to end later and school could maybe end around your dinner and that is a lot to handle.
I personally think that the pro side is the better argument. I agree with this because when I first picked up this article my immediate thought was yes! Also the facts in the article really stood out to me and I understood and wanted to hear more of their reasons why schools should start later. There are many more reasons why I chose this article but they are mostly all in the second paragraph.
I think that school should start later. I enjoyed debating with my fellow peers on this topic. The one thing that was surprising for me was that my classmates had very good arguments and it was definitely a challenge to debate them. I hope I can do more debates in the
First of all, kids will be more energized and be more academically advanced if school starts are pushed back. According to, “Should School Start Later” “Studies show that well rested teens get better grades, have higher standardized test scores, and miss fewer days of school. They also have a lower risk of being in car accidents and have fewer health problems such as depression, mood changes, and being overweight.” Many schools start before 7:45 a.m. and have tired students not putting forth their best efforts while 40 percent of American High Schools start classes past 8 a.m. The schools with later starts
School should start later rather than earlier because if school starts later teens won’t have so much of a problem with getting up in the morning. Also if school starts later kids school work will improve and help their grades in the long run. Schools starting later will improve many things such as grades and homework being turned in on time. Also with more sleep students might also improve the way kids view school.
If you want better grades and more sleep, school should start later. Many schools are considering early start times. In fact, at least three schools in Maine are considering starting school later. Middle and high schools should start later because students and parents would be less tired and because children would be able to play outside when the sun is out.
If we start school later then kids test scores will increase, they wont fall asleep in class and they would get the appropriate amount of sleep. According to upfrontmagazine.com, nNew research suggests that later high school starts have widespread benefits. Sleep experts at the university of Mminnesota studied eight high schools before and after the moved to later start times. They found that the later start time, the better off students were on measures like mental health, car crash rates, attendance, and in some schools, grades and standerized test scores. This is an accurate example because it comes from sleep experts at the university of minnesota that have actually studied this topic. With later starting time you’ll have more time to sleep and will be able to pay attention in class so you can get that good grade.
First of all, schools should not start later because that would mean that they would
School days should start later in the day because there are many benefits to doing so. Such as improved grades, Test scores, and safer roads because teens won’t be as drowsy if they sleep 8 plus hours.
First, schools should not start later because transportation would be an issue. Some parents may have trouble getting their kids to school because of their work schedule. For example, Liz Szabo, from USA Today, she quoted Daniel Domenech, in her article “Study: Most teens start school too early in morning to get enough sleep” states, "It's a logistical nightmare," said Daniel Domenech, executive director of AASA, the School Superintendents Association., who said that school districts have to consider the cost of school buses, as well as traffic...” This is significant because most school districts have at least one elementary school, one middle school, and one high school that would need busses to take them to and from school. Parents would not benefit if school started later because parents would now have to worry about being late to
What do you think about the time your school starts? Have you ever thought about the affects of your opinion would have on other students? Some people believe school should begin earlier. Some people believe school should start later. In my opinion school start time should stay the same because it would affect students in a negative way by not getting enough sleep, not spending time with their family and not participating in after school activities.
School should start later. Waking up at six in the morning to get ready for school really makes kids mad. They have to go through the rest of their day doing work when they feel tired and just want to go back to bed. But what if they didn’t have to wake up that early because school started later? Why do school start at 8 in the morning? All it does is make kids not want to be there. A lot of people say that school should start later. Later starting would mean that kids get enough sleep, they
There has always been a controversy as to if the school day should start later on in the morning or not. The University of Minnesota study shows that schools who have already changed the beginning of the school day to later have found that only a third of students actually received eight or more hours of sleep while the students who received less than eight hours reported to have more symptoms of depression, higher counts of caffeine, and substance abuse with alcohol and drugs. In “Should the School Day Start Later?” written by Michael Gonchar, Gonchar writes that, “New evidence suggests that a later start to the school day could have all sorts of benefits…” Some of those benefits could include the decrease of tardiness, increase in attendance, test scores and everyday grades, more positive mental health, and even car crash rates. All in all the research and studies over if the school day should start later has been in discussion for years.
Do you hate waking up so early in the morning to get ready for school? Do you feel so drained because you’re tired? Some school districts have started school later to give students more time to sleep and because students get more sleep it has several positive effects. School districts would be for schools starting later because studies have shown students with more sleep have improved school performances, more sleep which reduces health problems, and less morning automobile accidents.
In the article Our kids need more sleep by Valerie Erde, argues that schools should start later to accommodate student’s adequate sleep schedules. This article talks about all the tremendous benefits teens and children receive from getting more sleep. I strongly believe that schools should be starting a bit later to help students receive more sleep.
Thomas Decker once said, “Sleep is that golden chain that ties health and our bodies together.” School. There’s a lot of things people can say about it. Mostly they’re arguments about school such as should school have trimester or semesters? Or maybe school should be year round rather than having a summer break. However, out of all those, one in particular caught my eye. Should school start later? Now me being a student myself, this was very enticing. Being able to sleep more and have a full night's rest would be delightful. I, myself, believe that school starting later would be beneficial for school and the kids going to school. It would have its pros and cons, but it would be an overall positive impact to everyone.
First of all, I think schools should start later. They should start later because it shows improvement in the way students perform throughout the day. A study at the US Air Force Academy showed students that started classes
