Marijuana reclassification essay The controversial topic of marijuana has created a buzz on social media, in politics, and has been brought to people's attention in numerous states. Many may argue that marijuana is 100% bad news with no health benefits, yes there may be downfalls and health complications but the benefits can be unimaginable. Marijuana is a schedule one drug. Let me ask you this, is marijuana as bad as: heroin, LSD, and ecstasy? Because right now marijuana is classified in the same schedule as those deadly drugs. I believe that marijuana should be reclassified to a schedule 2 drug. It's a simple fix, laws of marijuana can stay the same and only people over 21 will be able to smoke recreational marijuana. Along with medical marijuana can be used the same as it is now. I am not trying to suggest an age drop in the allowance of smoking and i am also not saying all states have to legalize weed. Marijuana should be transferred to a schedule 2 drug and should no longer be a schedule 1 drug because it may cause health issues due to over smoking but it can heal ailments that are hard to live with, and give financial aid for taxes along with law enforcement funding. …show more content…

Along with that legal marijuana can be a big help with financial things like taxes and law enforcement funding. “In the past decade, police made more than 7 million marijuana arrests, 88 percent of them for possession alone… that’s a lot of cops and time wasted” (“5 reasons why cops want to legalize marijuana”). That quote from the rolling stone shows that cops are spending so much time on arresting people with the possession of weed, but those people only had it in possession so it does not mean they were high when arrested.
