Interning at the American Heart Association, I am able to work with community strategic partners such as health care professionals, businesses, and community based organizations to expand health. I collaborate with other legacy leaders from the California State University, Fullerton as well as the University of California, Irvine to plan and attend health fairs in Orange County. Since interning at AHA, I have attended about seven health fairs and the health fair that had left a lasting memory with me, would be the health fair held at the John Wayne Airport. This health fair was super informative for me because while informing the employees about blood pressure and strokes, I learned that there have recently been quite a few heart attacks at the airport. The employees were extremely thankful that we came and gave them such informative and life changing information about heart health. Usually before going to these health fairs, a group of legacy leaders would get together and see what we will be teaching the community that event and go from there. We all talk and then develop a way to get the community involved by thinking of ways to make learning the information in a way that is interactive and fun. Interactive activities make leaning much more fun and easier to remember. I also had the opportunity to make my own community event and go out and teach others. I chose to do my event teaching hands only CPR to my bible school class on Saturday. My students loved how interactive
There are so many different things and people to watch when observerving a specific community for analysis. I chose my community observation to be during a high school football game. I will be discussing my observations of the community that I watched including demographics, ages of those at the game, and their possible socioeconomic class. I will also be describing the folkways, customs and mores observed. This paper will also express the forces influencing fashion, the fashion forms reflected by the wearers, and the fundamental attitudes of dress that were observed by the people at the football game.
As I had mentioned earlier, I am part of an anti-drugs and alcohol club. I am extended the opportunity to speak to young students about the risks they could encounter. The feeling that those students may look up to us is very meaningful, and I feel it is a unique experience. I am lucky to have the chance to save a student's life through this club. Another community activity I enjoy doing is related to performing, but at senior citizen homes. Some of my friends and I often just like to get together with some music and go sing for them. This is a rewarding experience, as seeing the senior citizens smile, and making their day better, is truly a heartwarming experience every time I have the chance to perform for

My community involvement began as a Watermelon Princess candidate when I was in elementary school. Since then I have become involved in many different activities. I am in 4-H and we have done several contributions to the community. Every year the Freetown Leprechauns 4-H club makes Christmas ornaments for the nursing home. We go caroling at Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown and give each patient an ornament. I absolutely love doing this every year. The elderly people love to hear us sing and their faces light up every time. They even request songs for us to sing sometimes. The Freetown Leprechauns have also taken up canned goods for the
After gaining this information about how my community was affected, I decided there needed to be more awareness drawn to the existing organizations in the areas I served that addressed or worked on community health initiatives. I began contacting with local organizations to see if they might be interested in partnering with my organization on already organized events in order begin to combine efforts and to let community members know of services in their area. The event we hosted was in the form of a community event
Crawford County, Kansas is very familiar to me; it is where I was born and raised and now, as an adult, it is where I work as a nurse. Barriers to healthcare exists in every community. There is a high amount of poverty in Crawford County that contributes to barriers to access to healthcare. Furthermore, Crawford County has several stakeholders that influence the health of the community and advanced practice registered nurse (ARNP) practice. In this assessment of my community, I will identify Crawford County, as well as prevalent health care barriers and important stakeholders in my community.
On the day of April 1st, I volunteered in the Proviso East HS Health Fair. I was paired up with a Nurse Practitioner, a graduate student, named Carrie Bach. Our topic was “Oral Health,” and we had a poster and other visuals on our booth to educate the high school students during the Health fair.
As vice president of my school’s HOSA (Future Health Professionals) chapter, we often volunteer with a local
We participated in a community event and set up a booth with educational tobacco cessation materials and resources. We educated people on the various cessation resources available to help them. We also connected people with the Colorado
During my first year at UCLA, I had the opportunity to volunteer with the Black Pre-Health Organization on campus to put together an annual youth festival for children living in underserved communities within the greater LA area. Our goal during the festival was to promote healthy lifestyles by teaching the kids, through interactive workshops and activities, the importance of good nutrition and fitness. As a volunteer, I was able to interact with the kids and create a great bond with many of them while providing tips on how they could turn an unhealthy everyday snack into a wholesome, beneficial one. During the festival, we provided the youth with snacks, various health resources and free hygiene products so that they could begin their new

Do you believe in a utopian community? Do you believe we are able to make a perfect place to live, learn, and prosper? Can we create a community without greed, hate, judgement, or crime?
It was merely a decade ago that the obesity epidemic was thought to only be a minor problem and had only alarmed a small number of endocrinologists interested by the size of the situation (James, 2008). However today, the problem of obesity is vast with more awareness of its presence by doctors and individuals alike. In fact, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention states, “More than one-third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S. adults are obese (CDC, 2014)”. These numbers are outrageous and eye opening, leaving millions looking for a solution to this troubling epidemic. Obesity is not simply a cosmetic flaw as some might think, but is actually a very dangerous state of being for any individual to sustain long-term. Mentioned further in
My interest in community organizing and building began with the passion and knowledge for the well-being of others my father instilled in my life. My father was the late Chief Elmer Manatowa Jr of the Sac and Fox Nation, Native Tribe of Oklahoma. I have been an active Governing Council member (all adult members) of my Tribe for many years. I landed my first real job, Planning Department secretary, after taking a business course at the local technical .school. In that position, I had the opportunity to attend a Tribal Sovereignty Symposium organized by the Federal, State, and Tribal organizations. This was my first taste of community organizing and community building. It was the fourth symposium of its kind. The topics included Indian law, environmental issues, law enforcement, juvenile justice, arts, taxation, spirituality, preservation, state compacts, and Tribal immunity. There were two Senate Bills, 299 and 667. Bill 299 allowed certain protections for protecting land royalties and mineral rights. The protections included oil and mineral operator’s exclusion from drilling on individually owned Indian Country lands. Bill 667 referred to the health and human service regarding Indians.
I wouldn’t really say my community as a whole has an impact on me as a person but people in around me have had a huge impact on me for who I am today. The people who have the biggest impact on me is defiantly my family and friends, I have done so many things with them that made me the person who I am today.
