I found this paper extremely difficult to write. I had a hard time choosing the topic and once I did the sources I chose limited me on what I had to say. It was difficult to write much about a political cartoon and I wish I chose another source to compare to the magazine article. I had a hard time understanding the assignment fully as well. I now understand better how the project builders help us create the writing projects, so I think future assignments will be a lot easier for me to complete. Writing has always been something that I both dread and am not great at, so this class is more certainly going to be a challenge for me. My goals for the next writing project is to have better time management and write more drafts. No mater how many
The writing process has always been a challenge for me. Especially if it has a due date. In the past, I have always procrastinated the process and that never ended well. I knew something had to be done and I needed to come up with ways to make writing a little easier. So, I sat down and I started to look at writing in smaller steps. I started to plan how I was going to finish a paper without getting so anxious and overwhelmed. This process has helped me a lot along the way and I am going to share my process with you.
Over the course of this semester, I have improved as a writer. At the beginning, I would like to think I was fairly decent, but I didn’t have much experience in anything but English and the occasional history papers. This year was difficult, as it forced me to learn new ways of writing. As I got more comfortable, I clearly improved, with my writing and content improving. Essays like the Prairie Meadows scholarship and annotated bibliography were remarkably different than what I was used to, and I benefited from writing them. The beginning of this year, I wasn’t incredibly concerned with my sentence structure or the impact of the words I used. As I learned and wrote more, my sentences got more complex and I -for the most part- stopped using
Coming into this class, I wasn't sure what to expect. Of course,I expected to be writing a lot but was unsure of the type of writing and the style. I was looking forward to writing challenging pieces that stretching me creatively as a writer. I wanted to explore how to express myself in my writing because it had been a long time since I'd written a creative essay. One of my main hopes for this class was challenging myself to become a better editor of my own papers. I often find it a tedious and laborious process to find and edit the grammatical errors in my papers. However, this is an important skill that I need to develop for my future as a successful writer.
This class has been a stepping stone to my accomplishments as a writer. Over the course of semester, I have been challenged to tackle several different writing styles and succeed in each one in a unique way. It is through the rhetoric, technology, research, and collaboration used in this class that has progressed me as a writer and an individual.
My writing essays represent a timeline of improvement , from my first essay to my last essay I’ve noticed my growth as a writer. It was not until later on the semester that I realized that I lacked substantial academic vocabulary and had ongoing run on sentences, grammatical errors. My word choice was really repetitive with the constant use certain words. I have progressed where I have expanded my ability to use clear description and make my technical information clear. For example when writing essay 2 and 3 having to insert figures helped me portray my argument much more clearly. When addressing the figures in my writing they had become much more clear. Considering our class revolved around technological developments of the future it was very
English is a hard language to learn, for there are numerous elements of effective usage and writing. Many people, including me, struggle in writing because of a lack of knowledge. Since middle school, English was not a strong suit of mine. I struggled with the simplest of tasks often taking a considerably longer time to complete a task than the other students. Unmotivated teachers and a lack of interest resulted in remedial writing skills. To put it simply, I had little confidence in my writing and I dreaded taking the class because of the writing involved. In spite of my fears, I took the course and I was able to perfect and challenge my mediocre writing skills.
I believe I am an intermediate writer. I believe I am an intermediate writer because I usually get A's on every writing assignment I do, I've done a lot of writing in the past, and I have my mom who was an English teacher and helps me with my writing.
Looking back at this year I know that developing my writing was something that was there but needed some improvement. When there were no teachers around to go over my writing I found websites that would correct my grammar and used that to my advantage. This would either make or break my writing because it could make it shorter or longer. My writing when there is a rubric to follow is great because I know what to follow but with reflections like these, it’s hard to develop good
I’ve always loved art. Whether it was displayed in a museum, on television, or even on the side of a building, I’ve had a constant appreciation of art. Although, as much as I love observing art, I do have my own aspiration to create. Unfortunately, I’ve never had the steady hand to paint or draw. I haven’t had the training or experience to be a musician. As for possible being an actor, I’d rather not be the center of attention around strangers.
When looking back over the previous microthemes and papers I can see how far I have come as a writer. At the beginning of the semester I was a poor writer who could not grasp the important aspects of writing. I had many grammatical errors along with many underdeveloped thoughts. Even though this class was only for a short period of time in order to learn how to write a proper academic paper, I can see how far I have come. My papers may still be sub-par but in many aspects have come a long way. I no longer have as many grammatical errors and can further express my thoughts in a paper. Also by taking this class I have further developed revision skills by learning new tricks such as reading out loud and writing thoughts out as a brainstorming
One of the techniques I am going to use through out college is talking to
My writing skills developed drastically. I went into elementary school not knowing a word of English becuase my parents spoke Cantonese at home. Therefore, I struggled in elementary and middle school. However, the teachers at my high school have taught me amply. Therefore, English is a strong subject of mine. I learns the conventions of writing a well-structured and drive essay. However, I struggle in communicating. For example, I am slightly fearful of presenting, but I push myself into producing well-developed lessons. Additionally, I rely heavily off a script and is a skill I am actively working to
You're given a horn and told to listen for a sound. You know of no other with that horn; however, you rely on the fact that you are told to listen for a sound, so you wait. You wait for a sound that may never come while holding a horn that makes the noise you are looking for.
Living Writers taught me you can not fully understand the text as a reader until you have actively researched or engaged with the writer. I also learned you cannot accurately depict the perspective of a character as a writer until you try your best to fully embody and understand them. I took this class as an advertising major to fulfill a literature requirement. Meeting with “Living Writers” seemed like a promisingly unique experience. I thought my journalism classes prepared me to speak with strangers, but I was wrong. It turned out to be one of the most nerve-wracking experiences of my life. Picking the brain of literary professionals is surprisingly quite intimidating. Throughout the term we have met Danielle Evans, Laila Lalami, Andre Dubus
America is a place full of immigrants with no single ethnicity or race. America can also be referred to as the ?Melting Pot? because it consists ingredients of multicultural backgrounds. There are cultures such as French American, Asian American, Italian American and African American. I am Mexican American. My culture has helped me to become the writer I am today. My bicultural background and constant moving back and forth from Mexico to America has both influenced and weakened my writing. Although I was born in America, my Mexican culture has always been a part of my life. I have spent the majority of my life in Mexico, and Spanish is my first
