Finally, another big difference between the Reformation and Renaissance was their beliefs on the means of acquiring salvation. Most of the people in the Renaissance did not understand salvation. The Renaissance Man cared little for religious salvation, and mostly tried to reach his highest end, living for experience and earthly knowledge. The Protestant Reformers tried to follow what they found in the Bible, which required justification by Grace through Faith alone.

The Italian Renaissance was one of the most colorful, vital, and exciting times in history. Renaissance eventually comes from the French word "Renaistre," meaning "to be born again." The Renaissance was a revival or a rebirth of cultural awareness and learning among art, law, language, literature, philosophy, science, and mathematics. This period took place between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries. The Renaissance in Italy flourished in the 15th century and spread throughout most of Europe in the 16th century.

Over the course of the years, society has been reformed by new ideas of science. We learn more and more about global warming, outer space, and technology. However, this pattern of gaining knowledge did not pick up significantly until the Scientific Revolution. In the sixteenth and seventeenth century, the Scientific Revolution started, which concerned the fields of astronomy, mechanics, and medicine. These new scientists used math and observations strongly contradicting religious thought at the time, which was dependent on the Aristotelian-Ptolemy theory. The Christian Church was absolutely instrumental in the art of the Renaissance. It was the driving force behind every inspiration; without the Church, there would have been no art. The Church was the only institution powerful enough to be able to support the commissions of all of the artwork, and it was the only institution, in which people had enough faith and devotion to spend so much of their time and money creating pieces that—although beautiful—were not necessities. Humanity Through the Lens of the Renaissance The Renaissance is one of the most illuminating period of our history. From 1350-1700, there are breakthroughs in science, literature, and art. Some of the most prolific artists lived during this time; people such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and Michelangelo.

In 1774 Scottish historian Lord Kames identified that, “The Christian religion […] is eminent for a spirit of meekness, toleration, and brotherly love; and yet persecution never raged so furiously in any other religion”. This frames the question of why the Church persecuted heretics for centuries. The later middle ages are considered to be the years of the 14th and 15th centuries and in the context of investigating heresy refers to Catholic Europe. Johan Huizinga considered it a time of crisis and failure, however focused his research on Northern Europe. Michelangelo Buonarroti lived in a time when the medieval aspects of Christianity were overwhelmed by the upheaval of the Reformation. His art portrays this change in religious philosophy by discerning the major trends and objectives of the Renaissance. "His works show us...the changing world around him" (Richmond 4). In addition, Michelangelo seriously impacted generations of artists to come.

The word Renaissance means Rebirth in french, so after the hundred year war between France and England the Renaissance became such an ideal because it promoted peace and this idea spread all over europe.

If the world had no money or currency of any kind, the choices people made with their lives would be very different than in real life. People would not spend their lives in money-oriented careers. Instead, they would spend their life doing something that they find to be truly meaningful and enjoyable. In a scenario such as this, most people would find themselves pursuing the arts, sciences, or athletic based careers. As amazing as it sounds, there are some who may not be satisfied with this arrangement. Some people may get bored of doing one thing for their entire lives. For these types of people, the most fulfilling things that they could do with their lives are to expand the human consciousness in as many ways as possible. People like this want to be Renaissance men (or women).

Religion has driven the creation of multiple renowned artistic innovations and visual marvels. Throughout Europe, religion played a huge role alongside the people being not only a belief system, but also having governmental control over political institutions. Throughout Europe’s medieval era and onwards, religion played a huge part in artistic culture. Art was used primarily to convey religious concepts and decorate places of religious worship. Gothic architecture is a prime example, many fresco paintings from in the fourteenth century were created in Christian churches, depicting tales from the bible as well as the Virgin Mary and her son. As the years past the styles and techniques for portraying religious artwork progressed and evolved with fresco mural paintings such as Giotto di Bondone’s Meeting of Joachim and Anna, as well as Jan van Eyck’s Double Portrait of Giovanni Arnolfini and his Wife.

The Enlightenment was caused by the broad idea of the Renaissance, a period full of expression but by the artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, to say that da Vinci is the perfect representation of the Enlightenment presents limitations that will be addressed. The Renaissance period intellectual developments with a mixture of religion would be apparent during the Enlightenment. Artists,writers of the Renaissance were able to pass the only their knowledge and scientific inspiration leading to the “Age of Reason”. The Renaissance period has been previous described earlier but the cause(s) of the Enlightenment defines the time period as of human reason to eliminate the misconceptions of superstitions and to rely less on religion.

The age of the European Renaissance, Reformation, and Exploration are significant because they lead to the creation and spread of ideas which further advanced people’s knowledge and understanding of the world. In the slideshow, it stated that a Renaissance man was someone who excelled in more than one thing. For example, Leonardo was a painter, sculptor, inventor, and he studied anatomy. His creations and techniques later spread across the world, advancing art and science. The Renaissance caused people to ask questions. This inspired the beginning of the Reformation. The World History textbook said that the Church believed that the Earth was the center of the universe for 1,400 years. Copernicus and Galileo stated that the sun is actually the

Modern science, philosophy, religion, and art. These were all affected by the Renaissance. It changed the lifestyles and thoughts of most people. One of the major influences of these changes was the idea of natural law. The idea came from the Humanists, who believed in the power of the mind.. People started referring to the ancient Greeks' and Latins' ways of thinking. They believed these philosophers' ideas and beliefs were all one needed to live an effective and moral life. Soon, the children were being taught about the Greek philosophies and ways. These new teachings sparked a new intellectual era.

During the 1400s and 1500s in mainly Italy there was a major change that took place in all aspects of life. This was called the Renaissance and was a movement that helped give rebirth to culture and the arts. This movement went away from the medieval times that had forced a feudalist system on its people. The Medieval times were a dark period in European history that saw a major decline in arts and government. This declining can be attributed to a number of different reasons. One of which was the Bubonic Plague that spread throughout Europe and Asia and killed millions of its inhabitants. This was the final nail in the medieval coffin. Science is not always stable, it is constantly changing and becoming true and leaving behind the old ideas. Science requires intuitive minds and opinions to continue its testing to assure correctness is achieved. In the 1400s it was still believed that the Earth was the center of the universe but, Nicolaus Copernicus an astronomer and mathematician, developed a model in which the sun was the center rather than the Earth. This lead to future findings that in fact it was the Sun and not the Earth in the center. Galileo Galilei, who was influenced by Copernicus, played a major role during the Renaissance 's scientific revolution. His findings came during the late 1500s and one of his major quotes states, "All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them." These were all important and led to the future which is now and allows us to understand the world better.
