The primary text I will be using for my research paper is A Rose for Emily. A rose for Emily is a very interesting story as it has a lot of interesting themes and symbols. Another interesting aspect to the story is the narration. The author uses the first-person narrative but it is a mystery as to who is telling the story. Sometimes it will seem like more than person Is narration the story. The title alone stands as a contrast and important symbol, A rose for email sound like a romantic love story but it in fact is not although the them love can be seen in the story but a rose for Emily is more harrow that romantic. This twist in the title is very interesting and at first confusing. Also, the plot is a little confusing and it challenges the readers ability to comprehend and understand the true meaning of each line in the story. When you realize that Miss Emily Grierson, who is the main character in this story, kills the man she’s though to be in love with, all you can really think is that she’s crazy. I think the conflict in the story is Miss Emily not being able to find love. With her father not giving her a chance to date, thinking that there was no one good enough for her. Then, the only man she has been able to love dies, which is her father. Once she has fallen “in love”, she murders her lover. Miss Emily’s necessity for love has caused her to be unable to distinguish fantasy with reality.
