The great William Shakespeare lived during a time of many noted and influential people such as Pocahontas, King James I, and Sir Walter Raleigh. Even though Pocahontas was born during the later years of Shakespeare’s life, interesting correlations exist between the playwright and the Indian princess. King James I of England wrote about witches, which gave some background information for Shakespeare’s Tragedy of Macbeth. As the special guest of Queen Elizabeth I, it is likely that Sir Walter Raleigh watched some of Shakespeare’s plays presented at court. The daughter of a Native American chief, the King of England, and the famous explorer, all lived and gained notoriety during the lifetime of William Shakespeare.

William Shakespeare was born to John Shakespeare and Mary Arden, a shoemaker and a daughter of an affluent farmer in 1564. He was born on April 23, and baptised two days later. William attended the local grammar school, the King's Scchool. He was born and lived in a smal town called Stratford-upon-Avon about 100 miles west of London. Shakespeare had three younger brothers and two older sisters. Shakespeare never attended University. Because of the lack of records of when Shakespeare was a child,some people question his existence.

Although, his personal life is difficult to track, he can only be found by two sources. The first is through his writings of sonnets, poems, and dramas. The second source is data records. Through these sources, the life of Shakespeare can be told about his early life, middle life, and legacy.

Throughout Shakespeare's early life his father, being the tradesman he was, struggled with debt. This meant that Shakespeare grew up poor and saw the worst of the human condition. He had to overcome many obstacles to get to the position he was in. He worked hard at life, and now he is considered one the best poets to ever write. Is William Shakespeare really a Renaissance Man? I believe Shakespeare was a Renaissance man, he wrote many famous plays. I'm sure everyone has heard of Romeo and Juliet, a love story between two people who could never be together because of family issues, which was written by William Shakespeare. Shakespeare is considered a Renaissance Man because he was a talented writer, he was very knowledgeable which showed in his plays. Shakespeare did have a few disadvantages along the way. Many disagree that Shakespeare shouldn't be given the title as the Renaissance Man. People do not see his potential as a writer, because of his lacking background. Because Shakespeare’s school caught on fire, the school lost most of his records.

It is said that he last thing he wrote was finished in 1613, because as people suggest, that was when he lost his sight. He died three years later in 1616. Shakespeare wrote a grand total of 37 plays and 154 sonnets, the number alone bringing into question whether or not the Stratford-upon-Avon man could have truly created these works. There are vast volumes of theories regarding the true authorship of Shakespeare’s many works. However, most of these theories are circumstantial and fail to prove that anyone other than Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare.

His father, John Shakespeare, was a prosperous glove maker and wool dealer and was well regarded throughout Stratford, even holding the position of High Bailiff for a time. Young William saw his first play at the age of five from a traveling group of actors. Due to John’s position on the town council, he was responsible for approving the play for public performances. This gave William a chance to meet and get to know the actors who would return a few times each year for another performance.
