This book is a book written for people who love books about dystopias but also people who want a different outlook on what our future will become. I believe this book is life-changing because if I show you a world that you couldn't believe could happen then shows you through the book how it's not as unlikely as you probably thought it is. This book makes me think more about who we are trusting and how we should think for ourselves.
I think this book was somewhat easy to read but the structuring does make you have to think more while you read it. I think this is both a good and bad thing because it makes the book unique but it also sometimes makes it hard to follow. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes political fiction and things that challenge the government but also people who like dystopian novels. I would not recommend this to people who don't like

This book was popular when it was written but it gained more and more popularity over the years as more and more schools started reading them. The reason I think so many people like this book is because it challenges society and the government but also is well written and very interesting. I think that George Orwell does a great job at showing the main character both falling into insanity and finding the truth about the society he lives in.
This book follows a Winston as he slowly finds out the terrible things the government does to make everyone obey them. He starts an illegal relationship with a girl named Julia, they both get caught and get tricked into believing what the government says and get put back into society.
This book is a classic George Orwell book, it takes someone who is fine with how they're living until they find the truth and defy the government. I think that he does a great job at showing his view and his struggles. I think that out of the books I have read this is one of the best ones at showing how the character feels and puts you in there
very entertaining towards people who have interest in politics and it will also help writers who are beginners by providing them with better knowledge in writing skills. I also think that Orwell provided good, clear, and simple examples to have better understanding to his argument. I also believe that he explained how language could affect thought in a moral way.
The fight or flight response. Humans have this instinct installed in them from the moment they are born. It tells people when to cower in fear, and when to stand up and fight. This instinct is what primarily keeps humans alive. The fight or flight response is also dependent on whether or not the person can handle making the decision in the first place. The person has to have enough inner strength to determine what is right in each and every situation. Through the use of imagery, Orwell argues that inner strength is only shown when one’s life is on the line.
Due to George Orwell’s many successful works, he has remained a recognizable and respected author from his first moments of fame until now. Orwell’s novels and essays touch on aspects of government and human nature that will always remain relevant. With America’s changing values and controversial times, Orwell’s warning seem more relevant than ever and prove that with strong ideas, a novel can remain current beyond lifetimes.
The main character in George Orwell’s book 1984 is a thirty-nine year old man with the name of Winston Smith. Winston Smith creates thought crimes, he also has anti-Party views. The story “1984” tells about all of Winston Smith’s struggles. In an effort to avoid being monitored, Winston physically conforms to society, however mentally he does just the opposite. Winston is a thin, frail and intellectual thirty-nine year old. Winston hates totalitarian control and enforced repression that are characteristics of his government. Winston hates being watched by Big Brother. He always has revolutionary dreams, he feels like he would be protected. Julia is Winston’s lover, a beautiful dark- haired girl working in the
The books main themes include language as mind control and psychological and physical intimidation and manipulation. In the book, the people live in a city which is very out of the ordinary and also overseen by a charismatic leader, Big Brother. This society, portrayed by George Orwell has
In the book 1984 written by George Orwell, the author wanted the readers to understand the message he has created. The message that he has conveyed throughout the book was that the Party took away many of the individual’s rights and freedoms. Orwell has shown specific examples of how the peoples’ rights are taken away throughout the text. Some of these examples include the people do not have their own privacy in the homes, control over their own thoughts, as well as control over emotions. Orwell may have given these examples for the readers to be able to relate to the government today. Today the government uses security cameras as well as they have ability to check phone records. In 1984, George Orwell has created
The book Mistakes Were Made by Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson is mainly about cognitive dissonance, responsibility, and self-justification. People will not listen to someone telling them they are wrong because then they would have to change their mindset. This is basically what cognitive dissonance is people cannot have two conflicting thoughts. This is why people can sometimes be so wrong and not realize it because they were self-justifying the wrong answer.
1984 by George Orwell is the mold of dystopian books and created the anti-utopian genre which brought us many young adult series such as the Hunger Games series, the Divergent trilogy, and the Maze Runner series. So for that reason alone I want to say 1984 the book of its the decade. But, part of me keeps wondering, if it’s such a model book, then why I don’t love it? After a few nights of thinking through the novel, and the rereading of many chapters I realized why. It’s because the novel’s not relatable, obviously I can’t relate to someone like Tris from Divergent on the surface, because I’ll be damned if I’m jumping off of roofs anytime soon, yet she’s easy to relate on an emotional level because of her drive and ambition. I can’t relate to Winston at all, for one because I’m not a
The book is very interesting in a way because it is weird to think about a society like that, but also how much it can actually relate to today’s society. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves dystopian novels because even though the society in the book sounds like a utopia, the real dystopia is within what you consider freedom and what can possibly be wrong about the events and ideas in the book if it happened today. If you are looking for a dystopian novel or just a good book, I suggest you pick up this book
Freshman year 2014, I took a class in which I read the book that has affected my education and my life most profoundly, besides the Bible of course. The book I read is called 1984 and is written by George Orwell. 1984 is about a regular middle class man’s life living in a Communist society run by an Oligarchy. The government dictates everything the people can do, period. Everyone is basically brainwashed with government propaganda and all the people are constantly being watched through cameras creating a dystopian society of nothing more than robots where no one is allowed or able to think for themselves. The main character begins to question things and actually thinks for himself for change. Having started thinking for himself he begins to
The book, 1984 by George Orwell, is about the external and internal conflicts that take place between the two main characters, Winston and Big Brother and how the two government ideas of Democracy and totalitarianism take place within the novel. Orwell wrote the novel around the idea of communism/totalitarianism and how society would be like if it were to take place. In Orwell’s mind democracy and communism created two main characters, Winston and Big Brother. Big Brother represents the idea of the totalitarian party. In comparison to Big Brother, Winston gives and represents the main thought of freedom, in the novel Winston has to worry about the control of the thought police because he knows that the government with kill anyone who
As human beings, there are distinct characteristics that separate us from feral animals; the ability to create, to appreciate art, to curiously question the world and most importantly to sympathize for our kind. However, when that exact nature is stripped from us, we tend to become mindless, restricted, cold, and degraded as an entire race. This is the setting of George Orwell’s last book, 1984. A world where human thought is limited, war and poverty lie on every street corner, and one cannot trust nobody or nothing. It is all due to the one reigning political entity, the Ingsoc Party, who imposes complete power over all aspects of life for all citizens. There is no creative or intellectual thought, no art, culture or history, and no
There are numerous things about this book, “1984” by George Orwell that I would like to discuss. The first and most important thing is Winston Smith (the main character), Winston's rebellious mind against the powering government was not only compelling but was passionate. In the beginning of the book Winston was controlled by the government, they were able to constantly listen and see what he was doing and or saying.
The story began by introducing the main character Winston Smith. Winston worked for the government, rewriting the history of Oceania to make Big Brother seem all-powerful. This showed the extreme measures Big Brother went to so that it would not be overthrown. Winston disagreed with the government, but kept his feelings hidden to escape persecution from the thought police. Since Winston was keeping his dissatisfaction from everyone, he was very paranoid. He judged everyone as if they were a spy waiting to catch him and take him to prison. Although odd, Winston symbolized the good left in a society where there was not much good.
I really like the novel because it taught me how valuable individualism and independent thought is. I’m glad I don’t live in a world where one’s everyday life is being controlled and watched. The book gave me a realization of how great life is: full of liberty, justice and freedom. In the world of 1984 the past, present and future can always be altered so the party is viewed as all-knowing; an example: O’Brien stated, “Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past” (Orwell 248). The book has a lot of deep meanings, an example of slogans state: “WAR IS PEACE; FREEDOM IS SLAVERY; IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.” (Orwell 4). War is peace means the continuous war between Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia keeps society’s
