Jazz, unlike quite a few new-age genres of music, is one of those types of genres that you have to listen to multiple times in order to get the full effect of a piece. Considering it is more musically complex than a genre such as pop, you can hear something new almost every single time you listen to the same piece. For my CD review, I chose to write about Return to Forever written by Chick Corea, released in November of 1999. Some of the reasons I chose this album is because it is seen as “alternative” jazz, and I was extremely curious as to what that sounded like, and also after listening to the first track, because it has electronic music incorporated within it. The main reason the idea of computer-produced music sparked my interest so much is because normally when I hear something electronically generated (EDM, Dub step, etc.), I end up seriously hating it. …show more content…
Unlike Crystal Silence, this track is very upbeat and quickly moving. This is also the first track on the album to feature vocals with true lyrics. When hearing these lyrics for the first time, they really don’t seem to have much significance, but after listening to the track quite a few times, I’ve developed my own interpretation of with the song’s message was. In the lines “Man just wants to be happy, cast off things that shouldn't be. Set him free. Life is paradise,” I believe that Corea is trying to say that we should let go of things that don’t have a strong sense of significance in our lives, and just make it a goal to be happy. That life is a gift and that we set barriers to happiness for ourselves. Along with the lyrics themselves, the music sounds very up beat and playful, which really adds on to the whole idea of peace, love, and happiness. When I thought about it, this theme really does fit in with the timeframe in which it was written in, considering the track was originally released in
About a century ago jazz was considered as popular music and was considerably the most influential movement at the time. In 1920, jazz had infected Kansas City and it could be heard on every corner of each street. It began around the early 1900s, when African American musicians congregated in the city of New Orleans. In the town of Storyville, musicians would share and improvise their music. Eventually, some musicians would leave New Orleans to share the “New Orleans music.” By the 1920s, after jazz had entered the vocabulary in 1917, indie music companies began recording jazz
The reality is that the language in these songs gives to the listener can give them a dream of finding true love. The language gives hope to the listener that there is that one person they will love out there, but this also plays into the fear of heartbreak. Heartbreak was also discussed a great amount and is something that most people tend to fear. Another way that these songs play towards people’s fears and dreams is through social class and money. While social class is one of the most common issues, the lyrics and videos manage to give followers the images of how a luxurious lifestyle can lead to happiness and love.
Throughout several years, numerous genres of music have been created and evolved, such as contemporary, country, pop, and more. One genre, in particular, has greatly influenced the world and still remains popular today. This renowned genre is jazz. Although jazz originated in the late 19th and early 20th century, the genre has continued to develop and influence other aspects of music. With its beginnings in African American communities, jazz features several distinguishing components and defining qualities. Along with jazz’s many influences and unique features, the genre also includes a variety of leading musicians.
To start off, the first stanza in her song represents a sense of how unavoidable change is and how the confusion of the bond combined with the stress of the blame game can lead to a doomed
I chose this song because, in my opinion, it has a good thesis that backs up the song lyrics and it gives you a positive feeling. Basically, the song is telling us to always keep our faith and stay strong no matter what. It encourages people to
The future of jazz lies in the music’s spontaneity and liveliness. Aspects of the music, that have been there since its conception, such as improvisation, make it forever subject to change, which is what the music needs. The jazz music that is being created today is far from what the public expects to hear in music. It will not be popular, but it stands a very good chance of being excellent music. “Change in jazz is inevitable because, like language, communities change, provide new contexts that require new expressions, or find new ways of doing things” (Nicholson 71).
Thesis: Although Jazz music was first introduced over 80 years ago, the genre still influences artists and the new music they make to this day.
The message behind this song and music video is one that everyone can relate too. More than likely, we have all lost someone in our life who we truly loved and cared for. Understanding, coping and accepting death would be so much easier if "Heaven wasn't so far away". We all wish we could go see the person we have lost due to death, but as we know once they are gone, they are gone. The message of this song definitely has an uplifting, subliminal message.
During the early 1900’s, a new style of music began to take shape in the colorful city of New Orleans. People from all over the world came to exchange stories, conversation, and music. Although it is a very hard genre of music to define, it is said that Jazz is the combination of European and African music that was brought in via the ports. With mostly an African American population, the musicians shared their music in Storyville - a cultural melting pot, and began to spread the “New Orleans Sound”. They contributed to what would soon be known as Jazz in 1917. The spontaneous nature of Jazz’s syncopation and sound makes it a very humanistic style of music and makes every performance original. Every day we improvise, whether it is in conversation or spur of the moment decisions. These truly unique elements caused Jazz to become a symbol of America, and changed music forever.
Knowledge of jazz has fallen far behind its development. Most people do not know the facts on jazz, only some generalities and stereotypes. Often being called America’s only original art form, jazz began as an ethnic music, but there is much more to jazz than music. It is difficult to think of jazz without thinking of African-American
Her lyrics are very real to say, she talks about how people see other people. She also talks about how people don’t value others, and how did replace people real quick. She also states don’t think that you can have my love to waste, she is defending her honor in a way. She’s talking about how people are seen and how they are undervalued, but she is basically saying don’t undervalue me. She is saying that she’s not like everyone else, that she shouldn’t be seen as everyone else has been

Based off the lyrics, the song is all about how Beyonce truly feels deep down inside. The message behind
The first few verses of the songs suggest that there can be much uncertainty when beginning a new relationship. Sia writes, “There’s two of us / We’re bristling with desire / The pleasure’s pain and fire/ Burn me” (Line 5-8). This suggests that both persons want their love to flourish even
When listening to ‘Let Her Go’ you are bombarded with the quick realization about what you have in life and how fortunate you are until it is all gone. People and life in this day and age are just constantly going with no pauses and no time to appreciate all of the astonishing things you have in life until they are dissipated , and when this realization comes the effects of it are more abundant. People take for granted how good they Genuinely have it, and they tend to focus on what is happening next week or next month and all the hustle and bustle of life instead of looking at what they hold right in front of them. And when what is right in front of them departs or is seized from their life, they do not realize how fortuitous they were until it is gone. The speaker has a clear and
