Sci-fi Paper Synopsis My sci-fi paper will be about humanity’s first trip to Mars. It will explore the challenges, as well as the luxuries, of being on this first manned mission to Mars. A crew of over 100 of the Earth’s best scientists travel to a new world to explore and start a colony. This paper will follow closely with Elon Musk’s current plan to put humans on Mars in the not-so-distant future, and will look into the advanced technologies developed for this purpose.
A New World
(Intro) There are many questions that need to be answered about how to successfully put humans on Mars and eventually colonize this new world. Yet there are also several new technological advances that have been made or are planned for the near future that will make this groundbreaking mission possible. Some of these critical questions that need to be answered include the following: How will humans have access to drinkable water on Mars? How will humans handle and adapt to a lower gravity environment? What kind of rocket will be used to send humans to Mars? When can we expect that technology to be ready? How is all of this technology supposed to work to put humans on Mars? By answering these questions, we will create a picture of what it will look like when humans finally make it to Mars and start to colonize that new world. Mars has been an interesting planet to mankind for years now, and scientists have decided to take things into their own hands. They are making plans to put people on Mars to have them live there. Fortunately, if the effort pays off, humanity could have a new home after Earth is no longer habitable. While the criticisms do bring valid points as to the difficulties of space travel and colonization, they can be overcome with mankind’s technology, the resources already present on Mars, and old-fashioned human ingenuity. India has developed a method to drastically decrease the cost of space missions, and SpaceX has successfully re-launched a previously used rocket; with their contributions, a Mars mission no longer has to break the bank. Thanks to NASA, colonists will be able to sustain themselves for a considerable amount of time using oxygenators and water reclaimers, ensuring they have breathable air and clean water. Pockets of geothermal energy beneath the surface will provide the key to powering a large colony long enough for nuclear plants to be established. Finally, plants can not only be grown in Martian soil once the proper nutrients have been added, but those plants will thrive in an atmosphere with a high CO2 content, which can be controlled with pressurized greenhouses. The purpose of this study is to understand the complexities and possibilities involved with colonizing Mars. The road to sustainable life on Mars is not as simple as habiting an uninhabited island in the middle of the ocean. In fact this is much easier and has already been done.
