On Wednesday morning, I woke up with a start. I remembered he hadn’t done his homework the night previous and rushed to get it all completed before going to school. At school, things had been just the same as the day before, a rush of commotion and celebrating. Today, however, he was feeling extra tired, still sore from yesterday’s practice and waking up with a stressful start had contributed to his overall zombie behavior. My fingers uselessly fumbled with his locker’s lock, when Fiona arrived beside me. “Hey, have you seen Jason today?” she asked. “Nope,” he said, pulling down on the lock; to his un-surprise, it remained clasped shut. “I’ve been looking for him,” she said, clutching her books. “I tried calling him yesterday, but he never …show more content…
I feel really bad — I’ve been ignoring him a bit. I don’t know why, but I just keep getting sick and having all of these weird paranoid feelings. “Paranoid feelings?” I repeated, just as his lock clicked open. “Yeah, nightmares and just silly stupid stuff.” “What kind of nightmares?” I pressed, his mind suddenly alert. “Well, it’s stupid, but remember that time we went into the woods — you know, to that old abandon house? Well, I just keep having dreams about it and that guy that Justin said he saw. It’s been kind of haunting me — affecting my daily life actually. Anyways, it’s silly, but can you just tell Jason I’m sorry and to call me.” “Yeah sure,” I said, staring at his locker unseeingly. “Thanks, well I’ll see you around then.” “Yeah,” I said, grabbing a notebook from his locker; maybe he wasn’t the only one experiencing weird paranoid episodes, maybe other people were too. My mind continued in thought as he made his way through the crowded halls when he stopped. Standing, staring straight up at me was three pairs of eager eyes smiling back at me. It’s the pink and purple girls, he …show more content…
Gum? Mints?” “No!” I said, louder than I meant, sending the girls into a slump. “Okay, we’ll just let us know then. We just wanted to help. We’re sorry if we seem pesky, but we're excited to see who your date is, and hope everything turns out great—um, bye,” Holly said, and three girls rushed off. I shook my head, I felt bad. I knew they desperately wanted to helpful, but he was really starting to feel annoyed. The dance wasn’t supposed to be a stressful thing. If anything, he should be worrying about the big game. The words, we’re excited to see who your date is, echoed in his ears, he still hadn’t found a date. He knew he would have one by the time of the dance, so it was useless distressing about it now. “Dude, my man,” came Justin, slapping me a hard high five. “Guess who’s got a date to the homecoming dance.” “Uh, you?” “Yep, that’s right,” Justin puffed out his chest triumphantly, “just asked her today.” “Nice,” I said shortly, feeling like he might combust if he heard one more thing about the frivolous homecoming
Good morning to you. My name is Jholar. I am a pre-dental student that came to Pittsburgh because University of Pittsburgh had the number one dental school in America. Spring of 2015, I was taking two classes which got challenging, so I made a smart move to drop the two classes. I tried seeking help over the phone from the Community College of Allegheny County, and my previous college in Atlanta, but I had no luck.
After reading and comparing, Issue 4 of Understanding Rhetoric and Chapter 2 of The Call to Write, I find that I prefer the comic book chapter over the traditional chapter. For while, both chapter styles seek to explain the topics and concepts of rhetoric via examples; the type of examples used and how they are presented to the audience vary greatly between the two chapter styles.
The Importance of Earnest is a play full of comical truth, in my opinion. Woven inside the satire and epigrams, there are many line and quotes that are beautiful and meaningful. There are also lines that made me laugh out loud or lines I had to re-read several times to fully comprehend the true meaning. These quotes, the funny and the beautiful, are what I consider “blue china”, as Stephan Fry says.
Thinking and acting rhetorically to me means to think before you act. Do some research before you voice your opinion on any topic, whether that be a controversial topic like the 2016 elections or which coffee shop has the coffee. Since second grade I remember my teacher telling me and a group of friends to always think before you say anything. It is necessary to think things thoroughly and analyze them before you decide to say something. In any kind of situation you must always think things through before you speak, whether you’re at a family gathering or in a lecture class. People will judge you based on what you say, therefore you must do some research before speaking. Thinking rhetorically is doing your research. You need to know both sides
“Rhetoric, which is the use of language to inform or persuade, is very important in shaping public opinion. We are very easily fooled by language and how it is used by others.” Ray Comfort couldn’t have said it better. Rhetoric is a very powerful tool used in the English language. It has the power to conform people’s minds to fit the ideal society or influence their opinions about a certain subject. It is everywhere! It can be found in books, movies, commercials, debates, and speeches just to name a few. In Aristotle’s book, Rhetoric, he mentions all of the analytical strategies that are used when this literary art is practiced. These strategies will be applied to three different works of literature.
“Yes,” she smiled, “Though he asks not to be disturbed for the rest of the night. He is agitated and wants to focus on papers.”
“Sorry I didn't answer any of your calls,” he said, assuming he read correctly. “It's really hard for me right now.”
He thought for a minute and replied, "I have a feeling we'll be seeing more of each other sometime in the future. Why?"
“And maybe this is a good thing.” She went on. “Maybe we can get to know each other a bit more until we’re comfortable.”
“Hello, Jared Rider!” said the middle one enthusiastically. “It’s us again, Holly, Amanda, and Suze. We hate to bother you, but we happen to hear you still don’t have a date for homecoming.”
"Speaking of James, where is that stud anyways?" I ask. "Haven 't seen him since Monday."
He asked me why I did not like dance. I said, "That I wanted to do cheer instead."
“Nope” She said breezing in past the small lobby to the elevator doors. I dropped my voice low to a whisper so the attendants at the desk couldn’t hear
“ That’s a good idea; I will call you tomorrow. Bye honey.” Said Olivia as she walked away from him towards the entry of the library.
His brother sighed, “We told him that you both went on vacation. He’s usually his happy self, but recently, he’s been down, he misses you.”
