Following the tragic terrorist attack in San Bernardino, Obama addresses the nation regarding the war on terrorism. As a result, he presents a clear understanding of the United States’ intentions towards terrorism. Obama instructs the United States, concerning the San Bernardino attack, on how the War of terrorism can be halted. Obama’s address to the nation is delivered with the desire to create security. In the midst of our country grieving for our losses, his speech reassures the deaths of San Bernardino will not be without consequence. America will strive to draw, “upon every aspect of American power,” in order impede terrorism. Obama begins his address by immediately declaring the outcome of the San Bernardino Massacre. His emphasis
Obama reveals numerous Americans need to come together to make the difference to accomplish their ambitions. In Obama’s FareWell Address his message is assured by a plethora of hints and examples he utilizes in his speech. For example “...but that we have shown the capacity to change and make life better for those who follow”(Obama 2.) By making life improved, society can be the difference in the world. Furthermore, by being the change in the world, our futurity has a respectable life to prosper in. Our future generations are already making a difference quicker than today's generation is, “...I believe as a result that the future is in good hands”(Obama 4.) The future generations are already making a difference. The reason this occurrence
In his speech, “Remarks by the President in a National Address to America’s Schoolchildren,” Obama effectively argues his claim, that kids should go to school and try very hard to succeed to schoolchildren around the U.S. He effectively argues his claim because he uses supporting details and stories of students that have undergone tough situations, but still overcame those obstacles to succeed and school. Also, he is trying to tell kids that they should do well in school to get a good job and make a difference. He also uses rhetorical appeals to help with the supporting details. One of supporting evidence that he brought up was that if someone wants to become something such as a doctor, or lawyer you will need a good education to do
Imagine what it’s like to be a member of a nation who’s just been victimized in attacks that took the lives of around 3000 innocent people. The Attacks of September 11, 2001 were a series of four acts of terrorism directed towards the United States. The whole nation was present in a state of utter shock and emotional disarray. Besides, many of their loved ones were taken from them, and many others were threatened. If the Taliban terrorists were willing to commit attacks such as the ones of September 11th, 2001, then what made everyone else immune? In the “Address to Joint Session of Congress Following 9/11 Attacks,” George W. Bush substantially utilizes strong pathos, in addition to use of moderate amounts of ethos, logos, and a very urgent and resentful tone to persuade the American people that he will take the measures necessary to ensure that the terrorists are brought to justice. In fact, he was well aware that the people were fearful regarding their future, and he took full advantage of the emotional nature of the situation to win over the support of the people at the time. After 9/11 and his speeches, his approval rating shot up to an all time high; he had managed to intoxicate the people in the fashion which he handled the circumstances, and convinced the American people that they were in good hands.
One of the most catastrophic events America has faced were the September eleventh terrorist attacks. Our nation faced one of the most damaging attacks in our history and it was up to our president, George W. Bush, to address the entire nation and assure everyone that America still remains a strong and functioning country. Our President George Bush was called upon to address the nation, a nation that was currently suffering from loss, fear, and despair. His goal was to persuade Americans to take comfort in the effort being put forth in resolving the aftermath of the attacks and the fear they caused. Recognizing his audience as being innocent victims of an unknown evil, President Bush ultimately had to present a speech that mastered various techniques
On September 11, 2001, George W. Bush gave a speech to the American citizens following the horrible and tragic terrorist attacks that had taken place. Bush’s purpose is to create unity among the nation and to build his presidential credibility. United States President, George W. Bush, in his speech, 9/11 Address to the Nation, emphasizes how everyone should move forward and remain strong after the tragic events. Bush appeals to the audience using pathos, logos, and ethos while adopting a grieving, yet hopeful tone in order to tranquilize the people of America.
Last Wednesday, 14 Americans were killed in San Bernardino. On December 6th, President Obama made a speech about this attack. This speech just angers me from the first sentence to the last sentence. President Obama made some good points in his speech, but I disagree with most of it. I believe that most of his statements in this speech are a lie.
In President Obama’s speech right after the Sandy Hook shooting on December 14, 2012, President Obama’s main goal of the speech was not only to recognize the victims of the shooting, primarily children and their teachers, but the extremely serious issue of control throughout the Untied States. President Obama, throughout the speech, was using his professional card to present his speech in an effective manor, but he was also using his personal deck of cards to relate not only American parents, but also other Americans who have been affected to mass shootings and other control related incidents. Stylistically speaking, President Obama mainly used a formal and powerful approach towards addressing the American audience after this atrocity. Not
The transition of power has been made and America has never been divided than before. Two leaders of the free world, the forty-fourth and the forty-fifth president of the United States, prove that their stances on society are distances away from each other as they express their thoughts on the importance of Black History Month. Obama took a more comical, hopeful view on the role African Americans play while Trump was more focused, describing the country as a disaster that needs fixing. President Obama’s speech is more powerful because of the elements of tone, diction, details, syntax and strategies that he uses.
All lives matter not only blacks or whites but all. In this generation that these young kids live in a world that that has so much hatred.other people judge just because the color of our skin is darker or lighter than others even their own kid go against each other. This does effect on everyday life and on our net generation to come. This is why obama talk about racism and tries to tell your people it’s time to make a change.
Sydne Coon P.2 1. Obama has been a shadow politician until this essential address and it is vital to any career in the forefront of political action that he establishes himself in the eyes of the American people. So, knowing the audience, the children of ancestors who cradle the ideals of freedom and opportunity close to their hearts, adopts this idea as part of their identity he uses the opening antidote to establish himself as a common man. He came from a family that created itself under the ideal of the American Dream. He is an American down to his parentage
President Barack Obama addresses the citizens of Greece respectfully by learning some of their language, and attempting to make them feel as if they are equals. He began his speech with the Greek terms, “Yias sas! Kalispera!” This phrase translates to “Hello, good evening!” This speech was a praise to democracy, reminding people of its birthplace, Greece. The idea of Democracy, or Demokratia, emerged twenty-five centuries ago giving the people the right to rule. This speech is also directed towards young adults, and having the freedom to share their ideas and control their lives. Obama is faced with a community collapsed by the economic crisis. He reminds the audience that democracy is not thorough or flawless, but necessary to steer
I believe a lot of us have already seen Trump’s inauguration speech, and at the moment there’s a lot of debates going on about it. My first thought after watching it is that his speech is aimed at a very specific audience. How he said America’s infrastructure has fallen into disrepair, how he said that America’s facing harsh unemployment, everything he said is specifically cherry-picked to sympathize with America’s relatively poorer citizens; in fact that may be the way he had won the election, because in the most of America these people are the majority of the population. This in itself is not a problem, but I feel that what he says is humbug. His statements in the inauguration speech are carefully crafted to provoke the audience he targeted,
Undeniably, Obama’s election as the 44th Commander-in-Chief of the USA and the first African American to be elected USA President was history in the making. There were various reactions from the citizens about his election. Some were skeptic about Obama’s presidency while some saw hope in him. During his inaugural speech on 20th January 2009, Obama sought not only to comfort the country about its past but, also to encourage the citizens and create hope for the coming future. Furthermore, he intended to reassure those who doubted his leadership that he would deliver on the American Dream. Obama did all these by appealing to his audience to ethos and pathos through anaphora, metaphoric language and allusion to deliver a compelling message to the people of America and the rest of the world as well.
A good speaker provides a good message when he communicates with his audience about their needs, feelings, ideas, and benefits (9). When delivering a good message the speaker uses clear adequate language, stays on the subject, and is clear to point(7). Obama is approaching the end of his speech, he creates a tone and delivers a good message to his nation, establishing the idea of our nation as a family. A family who has been through rough times, taking the audience into a journey and lastly ending in recovery. Obama describes what a good nation (country) does to help other countries, because that is what a family does, it provides help to those who need it. Obama quotes, “My fellow Americans, we, too, are a strong, tight-knit family. We, too,
Threats of terrorist activities within the borders of the United States were recently actualized by the mass shooting in San Bernardino, which killed fourteen innocent civilians. The President of the United States has been attempting to minimize the damage dealt in public opinion. In the aftermath of the shooting, President Obama has spoken twice regarding the incident, however, he did not label the shooting a terrorist attack until this past Sunday, during his second speech. There have been many articles written dealing with the content of the Presidents speeches, with each coming from a different perspective. The article by Gardiner Harris and Michael Shear attempts to analyze the situation as a whole while providing criticisms of the President’s
