Rite Aid
Rite Aid is a retail drugstore chain that believes in quality. They operate over 3,800 drugstores in 30 eastern states. Rite Aid offers health and personal care products, office supplies, cosmetics, seasonal merchandise, a variety of brand names, and a private label product line. Many of their stores also offer additional services such as one ? hour photo, fax and copying services, 24 hour stores, information lines, drive through windows, and natural health centers. My expectations of Rite Aid were very optimistic. I knew from experience that Rite Aid was a good place to have your prescriptions filled and you did not have to wait very long. I expected them to treat me and other customers with courtesy. I like a

I wanted to see how they would honestly treat me so I walked around as though I could not find what I needed. An employee was quick to ask if I needed help. She assisted me in finding what I needed and was very kind and friendly in doing so. I noticed that all customers were receiving the same treatment and seemed just as satisfied as I was. Rite Aid apparently has good prices considering they always have a sales paper out and they are always packed. Customers were not just browsing but buying. While at Rite Aid I noticed that most of their customers were middle ?aged and older. Rite Aid has a variety of products from toys for children to alcoholic beverages for adults. I was amazed at how many products they did carry. I noticed that Rite Aid offers all named brand products in home medical care, and they even offer generic brand drugs at the pharmacy. It was obvious that most customers were there for the pharmacy but this allowed them time shop while waiting. I felt as though the customer?s needs were put first. The pharmacist even spoke with every customer that was receiving medicine and informed them about their prescription so they would be able to take it properly. When it came time for me to check out I had to wait in line for only a second, nothing compared to Wal-Mart. I was very impressed with the cashier and thought she was very patient and friendly. The other customers were treated this way as well. I would

CVS Health happens to be one of the largest pharmacies serving people in every community. In fact, there is a CVS across the street from just about every hospital, on every major interception, and are within a 2-mile radius of one another. This is the way it has been since the company was founded “in Lowell, Massachusetts by brothers Stanley and Sidney Goldstein and partner Ralph Hoagland” in 1963, and it’s the way the company plans to keep expanding the company in a proximity to one another. They have even gone as far as expanding the size of the store to fit the community. All in an effort, to be responsive and committed enough to meet the needs of not only the customers, but the clients and the community as well (CVS Health, 1999-2016). Especially, since the company admits that over the past fifty years, they have changed to better service people in their health.
(3) In an effort to replace foreign- sourced goods sold at Wal-Mart stores with American-made ones, Wal-Mart developed its “Buy American” program. By 1989, the company estimated it had converted or retained over $1.7 billion in retail purchases that would have been placed or produced offshore, and created or retained over 41,000 jobs for the American work force.
After reading this it makes me want to be a manager for Trader Joe's. There making a lot of money. But with the workers that work for them there given a lot of benefits with all the health, dental, vision and etc. Also they're given promotions from within philosophy because they're privately own. Also they tell there employees to try the produce so when someone has a question about something they can take them to something that is something there thinking about or better. Trader Joe’s has designed jobs to increase job satisfaction by showing appreciation in providing more benefits to their employees than other chain grocers.
I visited Walgreens today because I wanted to print out some of my pictures, and also I wanted to buy a digital camera for my mom. I choose Walgreens because it is one of the best company in photos and in the selling of digital cameras. My experience in using interactive tools, and digital displays was very interesting.
Although business was slow during my time at Walgreens, I enjoyed working with Dr. Guvetis and his team. He was very dedicated, focused and passionate about his job. He showed me how Walgreens was different from other competitors and the workflow of prescriptions. Walgreens receives prescriptions from patients (faxed,
The second significant change for Walgreens in recent history is the purchase of Drugstore.com, a leading online retail pharmacy, in 2011 for the sum of $409 million. In addition, subsidiary companies of Drugstore.com were also purchased (Beauty.com, SkinStore.com, and VisionDirect.com). 4 Analysts have debated whether the recent acquisition should remain as a stand alone business or whether it should be integrated into the Walgreens business. Proponents of the integration argue that a consistent brand experience which extends from physical stores into the digital web will increase consumer loyalty. Proponents of leaving the online venture as a stand alone entity argue that integration of Drugstore.com into Walgreen’s will open up debate on pricing may diminish the consumer loyalty from Drugstore.com, thus negating the potential increase in sales. Walgreens has made it clear that it intends to leave the newly acquired online businesses as stand alone entities. 5
Walgreen’s drugstore was located in Barrett’s Hotel at Cottage Grove and Bowen Ave on Chicago’s Southside. The neighborhood was prospering but Walgreen’s wasn’t. Mr. Walgreen decided to add brighter lights, expand the aisles (since the other pharmacies were dull and cramped), and add variety like pots and pans (unheard of in a drugstore. The quality of Walgreen’s pharmaceutical compounds met the very highest standards of purity and freshness. Efficiency was increased. But the most dramatic change Mr. Walgreen instituted was a lever of service and personal attention unequaled by virtually any other pharmacy in Chicago. And this was exemplified by Walgreen’s famous “Two Minute Drill” (Walgreen, n.d., p. 3).
According to CVS pharmacy they now offer more than 1,100 Minute Clinic locations inside CVS Pharmacy and Target stores in 33 states. We have expanded services to include diagnosis and treatment of minor illnesses, injuries and skin conditions; administration of vaccinations, injections, health screenings and physicals; and monitoring for chronic conditions.
Walgreens’ principal activity is to operate a chain of retail drugstores that sells prescription and nonprescription drugs. The company also carries additional product lines like general merchandise including cosmetics, food, beverages and photofinishing. Walgreens is one of the fastest growing retailers in the United States and led the chain drugstore industry in retail sales and profits last year.
Currently, the most frequent users are children under 10 and seniors over the age of 65. The buyers of health and beauty aids also consist of a wide range of users. Younger users tend to buy hair care and hygiene products initially, then add cosmetics and skin care items as they mature. The addition of a wide range of household items, including kitchenware, toys, pet care items, and lawn care items has enhanced the appeal of the drugstore as a one-stop shopping destination, where frequently used items can be picked up while a prescription is being filled. The development of a strategy that focuses on convenience items will further broaden the target market.

CVS, Wal-Mart, Medco Health and Rite Aid are Walgreens’ major competitors. Wal-Mart aggressively competes by its use of the $4 generic prescriptions promotion. CVS employs a similar strategy by offering a 90-day supply of generic medications for $9.99. Medco Health also competes with CVS by offering a 90-day supply of medications for a cheaper price than a customer would pay in-store. As of 2008, Walgreens and its major competitors were measured as follows10:
Mirroring its main market competitor, CVS, Walgreens has also added Envision Pharma, a pharmacy-benefit management company, to its portfolio. (CVS acquired Caremark in 2007) (Bells, 2016) Due to previous acquisitions and mergers, Walgreens is currently the most accessible pharmacy retailer in the U.S., servicing 8 million customers each day and filling approximately 894 million prescriptions and immunizations, every year.
