It is hard to say if rock and roll impacts culture or is impacted by culture. I feel that as you explore music from different eras you can often hear the story being told from that time. You can feel its impact and see the impact on it. When I explored the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame site I immediately looked for my favorites because they tell a story to me. Then I randomly selected someone I had never heard of and began to listen to that music as well. It is interesting not only to see the differences but also the similarities in my purposeful choices and my random choice.
I chose to review 3 bands that I know well; the Eagles, the Beastie Boys, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Once deciding on my choices, I wanted to not only read how

Their mash-up of rock and rap was very cool in the 1990s. I’m sure I was drawn to their party like atmosphere as well as unabated humor. The Grammy winning instrumental album The Mix-up was an interesting listen. I was unaware that this album even existed. It was a pleasant surprise to learn about their instrumental talent.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are probably one of my all time favorite bands. I was unaware of the roller coaster rides that this band took. There were a total of eight different band members over their 30 plus years. They went through many changes including drug addiction and death. I am in awe of the ability to stay relevant for so many years with the continued instability and revolving door of band members as well as the lag times between new releases.
In an effort to learn of a new artist I randomly selected a letter and a name. Laura Nyro was the result. I found that though she never had a top 40 or won a grammy she had a lot of influence in music. In researching her I found many of the songs she had penned resulted in success for other artist including, Barbara Streisand, Blood, Sweat and Tears, and Fifth Dimension. These artist actually achieved better success with her songs then she did. Upon listening to her music I was stunned by the number of songs I knew but had attributed to other artists. Though she is clearly a talented singer and pianist, it appears that her true
Phish has inherited the legacy of the Grateful Dead. A responsibility that includes: playing a different set every night, constant jamming and experimenting. Phish is trailed across the country by adoring fans that think their heroes can do no wrong. What makes them so special is that their music winds together. It is full of freedom and happiness. Their lyrics are totally original; they have this weird way of looking at the world and when they express this in their songs it takes you to a whole different level of thinking.
Rock ‘n’ roll and 20th Century Culture According to Philip Ennis, rock ‘n’ roll emerged from the convergence of social transformations which resulted from World War II (Ryan 927). Despite its pop culture origins, rock music is arguably one of the strongest cultural factors to develop in this century. Artists such as Lennon, McCartney and Dylan defined the emotions of a generation and, in the last decade, it as even been acknowledged by members of the establishment which it hoped to change as a major influence in the country. In order to understand how rock went from a sign of rebellion to a cultural icon, it is necessary to understand where it came from. According to Albert

Rock and roll (often written as rock & roll or rock 'n ' roll) is a genre of popular music that originated and evolved in the United States. The music we know as rock and roll emerged as a defined musical style in the mid 1950s, even though a form of it had been on the horizon for at least a decade or so. A quarter of the American population moved during World War II, and that is what brought southern, rural, sacred and secular traditions into contact with urban-based music and its audiences. Rock and roll drew on many different styles. It derived most directly from the rhythm and blues music of the 1940s, which it developed from earlier blues, boogie-woogie, jazz and swing music. It was also influenced by gospel, country, western, and traditional folk music. With the combinations of all of these genres of music, that help to create this new style of music excited a worldwide generation of young listeners. Even though it had the attention of young listeners it started to upset the already established social, cultural and musical authorities. With this new music style coming into full affect along with new dances and people having voicing out their own opinion caused a lot of turmoil. Many people began to question this new genre of music and labeled it as the devil music while other loved it and couldn’t help but dance

Hip-hop culture began to develop in the south Bronx area of New York City during the 1970s. It had a significant influence in the music industry. One song that stands out to me is “Revolution” from the white album released in 1968. Revolution like many other songs from the white album were very opinionated and could even be viewed as songs of protest. which was made in When analyzing the song “revolution” you can tell obviously that is a protest song. “Revolution” was a song off there album known as the “white album. When people hear the genre “rock and roll,” they often think of performers like Elvis Presley, AC/DC, and Aerosmith. Those bands have provided the foundation for rock and roll, but the newer bands have to carry over from the bands of the 1960’s, 70’s, and 80’s to the bands of the 1990’s and the 2000’s. The new generation of bands has just as much, if not more, popularity than the bands of the older generation. Bands do not gain popularity just by showing up to rehearsal, though. Gaining popularity can take years of making music, and sometimes establishing credibility takes more time than other bands. The more popular bands that have many fans are bands like Three Days Grace, Alter Bridge, and Avenged Sevenfold. These three bands have had
Along with the Beatles, The Rolling Stones are one of the most famous English rock bands to influence America. Introducing teenagers to African American urban blues, and transforming the urban blues into something like high-energized rock and roll are just some of the things the Stones brought to America (Kallen 10-11). The original line-up of the band included; Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, and Ian Stewart (Kallen 8-9). They have come a long way to get where they are now, and to this day they are still playing their music around the world.
Lastly, my experience was based on the things I liked or enjoyed about the band. There were multiple things that I liked about it starting with the solos. I think the best solo was from the electric bass player. I had never seen a bass player play a solo, but it was really good. It was a fast solo so he had to be a great guitarist to play it that fast. Then, of course, the lead guitar solos, piano, drummer, and my friend’s solos. This type of music is something you can have fun with. The musicians can have fun, but the audience can also have fun and groove out listening to it. Another thing I liked was how friendly the band is. After the band performed, they were happy to officially meet my friend and everyone else at our table. Although I didn’t remember each of their names, I did search the band online. One of the lead guitarist and vocalist is Kai “Pita” Katobalavu. The other lead guitarist and vocalist was Anthony Robert Bessen. On the electric bass guitar was Timothy Perkins. One the drum set was Kelvin
