Industrialization in America Industrialization in America was a period in time in which factories became an effective and new, helpful machinery was being invented to make production easier. This point in time drastically changed the lives of American citizens for the better or for the worse. Farmers were flocking to cities in seek of jobs while the wealthy wallowed in their cash and enjoyed lives of luxury because of their successful businesses. The middle class lived comfortably while workers were underpaid and overworked. Workers gained no benefits of the economic growth. Industrialization also led to exploitation of workers such as child labor, immigrant labor, and depersonalization of workers. Industrialization is an important topic because it shaped our school system, lead to the first forms of telecommunications, and made transportation more efficient. …show more content…
The railroad was perhaps one of the most important inventions in history, and in the industrial era it was highly utilized. Railways helped transport manufactured goods and raw materials quickly, consequently, trade was made easier for businesses. Stephenson paved the way for many future railroad engineers. He created the “standard gauge” also known as the “Stephenson gauge,” this gauge was a way of making all railroads the same size, since Stephenson knew that at some point they would collide. The south did not have nearly as many railroads as the North, nor were they as industrialized. As Locomotives and railways became more common, the issue of fuel arised. Southern locomotives often used wood as fuel, however they used so much of it that as they went along railways, they chopped wood as the locomotive was low on fuel. Cattle sometimes moved onto the tracks, causing sparks to explode boilers. Despite its many issues, Railroads played a key role in industrializing the united
Industrialization changed the Northern section of America in unbelievable ways. Americans would gain more jobs in factories, mills and banks, city life was booming, and both woman and men being employed in the cities. Money revenue would be generated and profited in mass production. Transportation became easier with the production of making parts or materials to build roads, steamboats, and railroads. Industrialization would trigger people to become invertors. Inventors seek new ideas of everyday use products to be easier or improve the machines to work faster and longer.
The Industrial Revolution was a major turning point in history that took place between 1760 and the mid 1800’s. During this time frame, a variety of different machines were invented and put in factories to make workers and everyday people’s lives easier. These machines had to be run by people such as women and even children because the men were mostly in coal mines. Some of the many negative consequences about these new jobs and new machines being invented were; child labor, physical abuse on the job, and unsafe working conditions. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because more jobs became available, it was actually a negative thing.
The Industrial Revolution was of great importance to the economic development of the United States. The new era of mass production kindled in the United States because of technological innovations, a patent system, new forms of factory corporations, a huge supply of natural resources, and foreign investment. The growth of large-scale industry in America had countless positive results, but also negative results as well. Industrialization after the Civil War affected the United States in several ways including poverty, poor labor laws, and the condition of the people.
Between 1865 and 1920, industrialization caused significant changes in many people’s lives. First, the development of a new railroad system help settle the west and made it more accessible to people. Second, public transit systems in big cities provided an outlet from congested cities. Last, the discovery of a method for transmitting electricity helped to light up our daily lives. I feel that these are three of the most important changes in people’s lives caused by industrialization.
Industrialization after the Civil War was a period where Industrial city were being built, there were jobs for people and the political aspect was having corruption. In this paper the main points in this paper discussed the major aspects of the Industrialization Revolution, such as groups that were affected by the Industrial society, and the affects the life of the average working American. While the Industrial Revolution was a great turning point in the history of mankind, it led humanity to great technological advancements, middle and lower class, African American rights,
Before the Industrial revolution people knew very little about the world and were used to making whatever they needed with their hands. Life was quiet because there was no machinery to make any noise. No one traveled very far on a regular basis because there was no way for rapid transportation and there were no clocks, people just used the rise and setting of the sun. When the Industrial revolution started, the nine to five job life style emerged as well and life changed for everyone.
Industrialization occurred in late 1800s and early 1900s. Industrialization impacted society by society being able to manufacture goods and by having opportunities for men, women, and children to have paid jobs. Even though having manufactured goods is a positive impact overall Industrialization is a negative impact on society because of the horrible working conditions, child labor, and tenement buildings.
Industrialization was an important era where the economy started to develop new machines, factories, and more labor productivity. A time where hand made objects were being replaced by assembly lines and machines. This era started to develop a lot of labor productivity, this made the population increase and made immigrants come from all over the world to work for very long hours and gain very little. This development caused monopolies to be created and take control over labor. It benefited the monopolies because they were gaining a lot of money by their businesses but for the workers it was a disaster because their income wasn't enough to support a whole family. During these time of the era is when child labor began increasing because they had
At one point, Industrialization had a very negative impact on society. It had affected many people’s lives in a very gloomy way. While some people might argue that Industrialization had primarily positive effects for society because there was better business and financial opportunities it was actually a negative thing for society. Industrialization’s negative effects were unsafe working conditions, bad employers, and many people were separated from their families.
Industrialization changed the lives of the people of this nation. By the late nineteenth century, with advances in technology, communication, and transportation, a new type of industrialization was formed, a global one.
While some argue that Industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because it made the economy flourish, it was actually a harmful outcome for the society. Industrialization’s negative effects include child labor, working conditions, and living conditions. Industrialization's negative impacts incorporate child labor, working conditions, and living conditions. During this time period, industry owners were
The United States has always housed two types of people: those who embrace change and those who resist it. From loyalists and revolutionaries in the eighteenth century to democrats and republicans in the twenty-first, changing economic tides and social conditions often spark factions in this nation. In the case of the Antebellum period, new technology and working environments caused turmoil. In a few short decades, the country would be locked in a civil war. However, before that came a series of religious and reform movements. Some of these movements would grow into national conversations, but began first with small groups. In Antebellum America, industrialization caused a breakdown in social structure, especially norms of class, gender, and race. This led to middle and upper class men in the North and the South using similar strategies to resist social change. Industrialization also allowed alternative voices to advocate for entirely new dynamics of power surrounding class, gender, and race.
Mark Twain once called Industrialization an, “Era of incredible Rottenness.” Industrialization had both negative effects and positive effects on city life. While big businesses thrived, the gap between the rich and poor grew larger day by day. Progressive reformers sought to close this gap and bring together the nation.
The Industrial Revolution brought about an overwhelming amount of economic change to the United States. The first Industrial Revolution started in Great Britain and in Europe in the latter part of the eighteenth century and, it then spread to the United States and Germany. The Industrial Revolution itself refers to a change from hand and home production to machine and factory (Kelly). During this time period, America was growing in knowledge. The industrialization of America involved three great developments. Transportation was expanded, electricity was effectively harnessed and many improvements were made to several industrial processes (Kelly). Although this change greatly helped the United States economy, it had both a positive and negative impact on the lives of the American people.
America has been expanding and growing since its birth out of Great Britain. The Industrial Revolution has been an influence in the American life since it first in the 1700s. “Most families did not have enough to sell at the market- they had just enough for their own needs.” Up until the factories started booming and employment rates skyrocketed, people really couldn’t become wealthy and live a decent life. As the ways of farming grew the English at the time began to use up more and more land efficiently. “Unusable swamplands could be drained and used for crops.” That’s absolutely amazing that in this era they could turn swamps into areas to raise more crops so they can naturally make more money at the markets and become a bit wealthier. Farming is one of the most important lively hoods of mankind; no matter what argument anyone tries to make. If we didn’t have farming and agricultural production we wouldn’t have all the different sorts of food products we do, nor would they be as abundant. Life would be like it was before the Industrial Revolution came about and most of us would still be growing our own food and barely scraping by in life. With all this agricultural expansion of the time population in England start expanding drastically as well. Thanks to population growth people started to worry more about new inventions and producing stuff for us to make our day to day lives easier than we could have ever before. With all the technological advancements leading up to
