Role Of Leadership In National Honor Society

Being accepted into the National honors society is not only and honor, but most importantly a privilege. This means that I have achieved many academic goals, such as my 3.86 GPA, and success in many of my other clubs as well. I have taken multiple honors classes throughout high school and excelled in them. They have taught me a strong positive work ethic and gave me the criticism that I need to better myself. Also, I have been given the responsibility as Captain of my golf team. My job is to instill confidence and inspiration to my teammates ensuring them that they can accomplish the highest of goals on the golf course. Not to mention that is only one of my leadership rolls at Middletown High School South.

After the induction ceremony, I came before my mom, both of us smiling. Words were not necessary for me to know that my mom was proud of me. Being in National Honor Society was something that did not just made my parents proud, but it made me proud of myself. The honor of being in the club is not the only reason why the club is so valuable for me. It is the experience that I get form interacting and working with students from other grade levels that really inspires me. The club meetings and activities allow me to meet amazing individuals that I might have never had the opportunity to meet. We all know that the National Honor Society is focused on the four main points of character, service, scholarship, and last but not least leadership. I am asking that you take consideration of these four points in my very own life.

Though my primary goal is to ameliorate my leadership skills, there are many reasons for my wanting to become a member of the National Honor Society. Not only would my membership appeal to colleges to whom I may be applying to, it would challenge me in such a way as to further develop valuable life skills, such as responsibility and character. Any collective efforts or activities made would allow me to build teamwork capabilities, hone project management aptitude, and make friends. My acceptance into the NHS would also guarantee future access to applications for the NHS Scholarship Program, which will financially aid me in entering the college of my choice.

Using my leadership qualities to encourage others and uplift their abilities to their fullest potential will create a successful year for National Honor Society. Taking a leadership role in my freshman and sophomore year as a treasurer in Student Council has benefited my outlook of what it means to be a leader. As a treasurer, it’s my duty to have a clear vision of what is desired to be completed to benefit the whole class of 2019. I got out of my comfort zone and made a positive difference. I have continued to take up my leadership roles by running for officer positions and taking initiative by becoming chairpersons for multiple committees in student council. Many may ask what leadership,service, and citizenship truly mean. I have had abundant experiences with each of these unique characteristics. Personally I believe the National junior honor society is looking for strong individuals with very imminent, powerful and strong traits. Someday I would love to be a teacher, and being in NJHS would really give me a true representation of what being a leader and teacher is like. I fit this intricate job description for many reasons, and I hope you enjoy listening to my experiences.

“As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others” according to Bill Gates, while John Maxwell tells people that “Leadership is influence - nothing more, nothing less.” Neither of them completely capture leadership, but at the same time, neither of them are wrong. To be a leader, one must empower and influence those they lead in order to get the results they want. Neither one mentions that a leader must be confident in themselves and show others that they are confident with the decisions they make for themselves and others. As president of the Italian National Honor Society at my school, it is my job to promote excellence in the course, as well as in the community. Since our society values giving back to the community, we put an emphasis on community service. Many of the other students in the society worried about completing their hours. I showed them that they did not need to worry about getting their service hours by completing all of my required hours for both National and Italian Honor Societies before the end of November.

Leadership is being able to guide other students into being the best they can be. I am a leader who is always positive and cheering others on to achieve their goals. At my school, I have a position as the Vice President of Academics in National Honors Society. Since I have obtained this position, I encourage other students in this group to participate in service projects which is where one volunteers to help out the community in some aspect. These volunteering opportunities are good thing to do because it builds character and it is always fun helping others out. As a leader, I bring new ideas to the table on where we should help out in the community and anything that we could do in school that would fun and helpful. Along with participating in National Honors Society at my school, I am also involved in our Student Government Association. Although I do not have a leadership position in this club, I still engage in the activities that we do. For the past two years, I have gone to an annual meeting for leadership where multiple schools attend.
