One of William Shakespeare’s most famous works is the story of “Romeo and Juliet.” The play is a romantic tragedy where several characters die within a few days. The play starts by introducing one of the main characters, Romeo and later on in the story, Juliet is introduced. Romeo meets Juliet at a party and they instantly fall in love. Juliet soon proposes marriage, they get married, but soon they both die. There are several characters that could be to blame for the tragic death of these two teenagers, but the three most blamable characters are Friar Lawrence, Fate, and Lord Capulet. The most blamable character for the death of Romeo and Juliet is Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence made on mistake which set off a chain reaction of other events that resulted in Romeo and Juliet’s death. In Act IV Scene i, Friar Lawrence said, “Ah Juliet, I already know thy grief, it strains me past the compass of my wits, I hear thou must, and nothing may prorogue it, on Thursday next to be married to this county,” (DBQ:Project, 2013) and “if thou darest, I will give thee remedy.” (DBQ:Project, 2013) The first quote explains Friar Lawrence’s sympathy for Juliet having to marry Paris. Friar Lawrence knows that Juliet is in love with Romeo, but she is being forced by her parents to marry Paris. The second quote from Friar Lawrence shows a solution to Juliet’s problem. Friar Lawrence’s “remedy” is to give Juliet a potion which would put her to sleep for a few days. The effects of the potion would make Juliet appear to be dead, so Friar Lawrence would then send letters to Romeo saying Juliet is not actually dead, and Romeo needs to come rescue her and then the two lovers could live a happy life. While this plan was well thought out, it was not executed very well. The letters never made their way to Romeo, so Romeo assumed Juliet was dead and he then committed suicide. When Juliet woke up and saw Romeo was dead, she also committed suicide. Friar Lawrence is the most blamable character for Romeo and Juliet’s death because he was the one who gave Juliet the potion in the first place. If Juliet would have never received the potion, Romeo would not have committed suicide, so neither would have Juliet. While Friar Lawrence is the most
In the play “Romeo & Juliet” shakespeare portrayed all aspects of love throughout different characters. Each character carries its own meaning of love which is what makes this play unique. Romeo,Nurse, and Tybalt all represent divergent love. The word Love can come in all sorts of ways which is why it is such a diverse word. Love is a powerful term that can be portrayed as deep affection, devotion, and even heartbreak.
The story of Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, results in a tragedy where both main characters die. Friar Lawrence, a character Romeo and Juliet turn to for advice, is the cause of this tragedy. Friar Lawrence is responsible for organising the marriage of Romeo and Juliet, devising a plan to help Juliet fake her death, and he is responsible for the letter informing Romeo of this plan which does not arrive. These three events lead to both Romeo and Juliet committing suicide.
In “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” the younger generation, Romeo, Juliet, and Paris, and the older generation, Nurse, Capulets, and Friar, both had similarities and differences which had caused the end. They had a similar opinion on things going on and different opinions ones others. In the tragedy, the main characters died which was influenced by the older generations because they have similar and different opinions which all led the younger ones to death.
Juliet is not unlike the typical young women constantly struggling to find happiness and acceptance from those who are closest to her. Young Juliet must confront the harsh reality that exists between her and those who profess to be her friends and family, which is they failed to support her, love her, and lift her up with she needed it most. In the timeless book, “Romeo & Juliet” William Shakespeare writes a moving story about the betrayal, disappointment, love, and eventual death of Romeo and Juliet. No reader can truly appreciate and understand the level of Juliet’s struggles without first understanding the roles the Lord Capulet, Friar Lawrence and Romeo, their betrayal and their role in her faithful decision.
In the tragedy Romeo and Juliet by Willam Shakespeare, the main characters both end up dead due to their strong love for each other. Romeo, a montague, and Juliet, a capulet fall deep in a love forbidden by their familes. Many characters aid the lovers in their doomed relationship, and many can be blamed for their deaths, the Nurse and Friar Lawrence included. The Nurse acted more as an advice giving messenger to Juliet, arranging meetings to the pair; whereas, Friar Lawrence caused most of their problems. Friar Lawrence is most accountable for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet due to the fact that he married them, he abandoned Juliet in a time of need, and he formed the plan that killed them.
Fate is defined as, ‘the development of events outside a person’s control, regarded as predetermined by a supernatural power’. In the time in which ‘Romeo and Juliet’ was written, many people were strong believers of fate and it was a common belief in society. William Shakespeare was a famous poet who is recognised for his powerful writing and contribution to the English language. One of William Shakespeare’s highly recognised plays is ‘Romeo and Juliet’ written in the late 1500’s. It is a play about two star-crossed lovers alongside fate who by their death end the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets. In ‘Romeo and Juliet’, Friar Laurence is not to blame for the tragic events which occurs in the play due to the fact that other
“A man's greatest pleasure is to defeat his enemies, to drive them before him, to take from them that which they possessed, to see those whom they cherished in tears, to ride their horses, and to hold their wives and daughters in his arms.”, said Genghis Khan, ruler of the Mongol Empire. Shakespeare expands on this idea in his famous novel Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet tells a tale of two “star crossed lovers” born of rival families whose feud is continued by men battling in the streets, the two lovers try to get married and start a life together which is halted by the violence of men when Mercutio, Romeo’s friend was slain by Tybalt and Tybalt was slain by Romeo. Romeo’s brutality caused for him to be banished from Verona, a plan was
Lastly, Friar Laurence is the character most to blame for the tragic events in Romeo and Juliet because he married them and he gave Juliet poison. In Act 4, scene 1 it is
‘The characters in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet undergo significant changes throughout the course of the play.’
Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespear, brings many themes to life; love and fate and comedy and tragedy being among the most common and reoccurring. This essay will be focusing on the real tragedy of one of the most famous plays ever written. Romeo and Juliet are not the only ones to lose something very dear to them; everyone suffered, both emotionally and physically. The couple's union was intended to bring the feuding families together instead, their love for each other only brought their own death and the deaths of others. But it is not just physical loss that is explored in the play. Both Romeo and Juliet lose their innocence. Juliet had never experienced maternal love, something that can never be replaced.
To start off, Friar Laurence is the most to blame for the outcome of the play because he makes Juliet drink poison. During the play Friar Laurence tells Juliet a way to avoid the marriage of Paris. “Hold daughter I do spy a kind of hope… If rather to marry Paris, Thou hast the energy of will to slay thyself…” (4.1.69-73). What this evidence shows is that the Friar “only” believes that Juliet has to make herself appear dead and there is no other way to approach this. Some may argue that it’s Romeo’s fault for not waiting for Juliet to wake up, however Romeo never did get the letter that Juliet was going to appear dead so that’s the Friar’s fault for not being able to get the letter to Romeo.
The person who is most to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet is Friar Lawrence because of his ability to wed the two lovers without telling anyone hoping that it would solve the feud. When Romeo and Juliet are getting married, Friar Lawrence says, “In one respect I’ll thy assistant be; For this
The tale of the Titanic is one of the most famous shipwreck stories in history. It still boggles people’s minds how such a mighty and unsinkable ship hit an iceberg and sunk only three days into her maiden voyage. Some historians believed it was a flaw in the building of the ship, while others believe it was a flaw in the boiler rooms due to them catching fire and damaging the ship beforehand. Everyone can agree that many things went wrong that led to the deaths of 1,500 innocent lives that fateful April night. In literature, when a character has a major flaw it can also lead to disastrous events like the sinking of the Titanic. Specifically in the play of Romeo and Juliet, the characters Friar Laurence and Tybalt both have major flaws that affect the outcome of the play. Friar Laurence's hypocrisy and Tybalt’s lack of control over his anger and his inability to tame it are some of their flaws that helped lead to the death of Romeo and Juliet.
Friar Lawrence gave Friar John the letter to give to Romeo. On his way there he got stopped in a village and got quarantined because he was with people who had the plague. Romeo never got the letter, so when Balthasar saw Juliet in the tomb and told Romeo he had no idea, he really thought she was dead. Romeo even asked if there was a letter “ Hast thou no letters to me from the friar.” If Romeo got that letter, then Romeo wouldn’t of gone there and killed himself. Which then wouldn’t of caused Juliet to kill herself.
Juliet is the daughter of Lord and Lady Capulet. When the play begins, we learn from the nurse that Juliet is soon turning fourteen (“Even or odd, of all the days in the year come Lammas-Eve at night shall she be fourteen”). In Juliet's first meeting with her mother and the nurse, she seems to be an obedient and responsible child. She comes immediately when they call her and answers always respectfully to her mother: "Madam, I am here, / What is your will?" (“Act 1, Scene 3). She is also clever as when her mother asks her what she thinks about marriage, she gives an ambiguous answer by saying what her mother wanted to hear really: “it is an honour I dream not of” (“Act 1, Scene 3). We learn that she is
