The two stories The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and Pyramus and Thisby there are many similarities and differences. For example, they are both love stories. Which is a similarity. A example of a difference is Pyramus and Thisby never got to meet each other before their fate. Throughout the stories there are many more examples of similarities and differences. First off we will start with a difference. The first one that we have is Romeo and Juliet got married, while Pyramus and Thisby wanted to get married, but they didn't. The whole reason how Romeo and Juliet died was because of the wedding. “Here comes the lady” (Shakespeare 419). This quote is from the wedding when Juliet enters. While in the other story Pyramus and Thisby never had …show more content…
Romeo and Juliet could actually communicate face to face while Pyramus and Thisbe had to talk through a wall. “ So they would talk, and as the night came on and they must part, each would press on the wall kisses that would not go through the lips on the other side”. (Ovid 488). This quote shows that the two would have to talk and “kiss” through the wall and could never come face to face. This was the second difference on between the two stories, now on to the similarities. The first similarities are they both killed themselves because of love. They thought one of them died so they ended their own life to be with the other. “[Snatches Romeo's dagger], This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die.” (Shakespeare 475). This quote is when Juliet killed herself when she found Romeo dead. The same thing happened in the other story. This was the first similarity we had found. The next similarity is both their families were enemies. They both had a wall splitting them apart too. ‘My only love sprung from my only hate.” (Shakespeare 396). This quote was said by Juliet when she found out Romeo was a Montague. As you can see these details make the two stories very
In the two stories The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and Pyramus and Thisby they both were star-crossed lovers and made their own choices throughout the stories. For example they chose to love each other even though they knew it wouldn't end well. Personal choices affect the characters more than destiny because they decided to get married and they killed themselves.
In some ways both short stories were written with some similarities in mind. In both of the short stories that were told there was a death taken place which is a sad thing in stories that could affect the mood of the reader. After the death there is someone to clean it up and keep it secret so no one would know In both of the stories there is unique writing styles used to add effect to the story. These are some of the things that were used in both stories that kind of put them together as
Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story both have a lot in common as well as major differences that set them apart. Although West Side Story is a direct rendition of Shakespeare's original play, many of the themes and symbols are altered to fit the modern perspective. The characters have a direct correlation to each other, yet racial issues give them a new light. Many of the events also reflect each other, yet small differences give them uniqueness. West Side Story differs from Romeo and Juliet in characterizations, plot sequences, and themes.
From my interpretation, the plots are the same in general. Both show that love makes you do crazy things. Romeo and Juliet and Pyramus and Thisbe thought with there hearts instead of their heads being in those situations at those times. Had they both given a little time and thinking before their actions, both of the stories could’ve ended happily.
Both stories are classical stories, and have the same main idea, the pursuit of love. How the characters pursuit love, why they do it, and the outcome of it change with the stories. We do know one thing, A Midsummer
Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story share many similar themes. Romeo and Juliet both chronicle a story of overcoming prejudice and hatred, forbidden love, and defying stereotypes that nobody thought could be broken. The two stories are similar in a multitude of ways, even though their settings are centuries apart- Romeo and Juliet set in the 1500’s, and West Side Story set in the 1950’s. Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story both teach a lesson of how prejudice can teach you how to hate, and how one of your rivals may be the one who helps you remember how to love.
Both cinematic versions of Romeo & Juliet follow many similar aspects in their versions of Act III, scene i. Both follow a similar plotline in which Mercutio and Benvolio are
Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story are both iconic, enjoyable stories that most people have heard of. Romeo and Juliet was written much earlier than West Side Story was, however it was still based on older Italian stories. These stories can teach us a lot about our daily lives and how we live them. In order to do this though, we have to make other comparisons throughout the story first. So, let’s dive in and analyze the differences between the stories, their origins, and their authors.
Pyramus and Thisbe and Romeo and Juliet are two tragic romance stories that are comparable in many ways. The similar concepts and elements reflected in the two works portray themes of love and tragedy, while also expressing the same types of characters and events. The works of the two writers, Ovid and Shakespeare, were written in completely different time periods, but are remarkably comparable in the senses of character purpose, elements, theme, and events.
Ethan Frome and Romeo and Juliet Imagine finding the love of your life only to realize that you will never be together, such is the tragedy in Ethan Frome and Romeo and Juliet. The two stories share similar plots involving forbidden love and a tragic ending. Some characters in Romeo and Juliet correspond to those of Ethan Frome, such as Mattie and Juliet and Ethan and Romeo. One area that Romeo and Juliet and Ethan Frome are very different is their setting; Romeo and Juliet takes place long before Ethan Frome which greatly affects the plot. In many ways, Ethan Frome is a modern-day interpretation of Romeo and Juliet with distinct similarities and differences between the two works.
The first tragic similarity in Romeo and Juliet and To Kill A Mockingbird is they both have conflicts. For example, the conflict of the Capulets and the Montagues is stated at the very beginning of the play. These two families are of equal
Ovid’s Pyramus & Thisbe, and William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet are both stories about ill-fated love. With each story we can see that there is a tragic couple, the female, Thisbe represents Juliet, while the male, Pyramus represents Romeo, vise versa for each. In Pyramus & Thisbe, the two lovers communicate through the small chink in the wall. In Romeo & Juliet, the two lovers communicate through the Nurse by sending messages back and forth. In Romeo & Juliet, the meeting place is Friar Lawrence’s Cell, this represents the Tomb of Ninus in Pyramus & Thisbe, which is where they met up. Lastly, the deceiver in both stories is the main reason the tragedies happened.
Last but not least, in both texts of Romeo and Juliet and Pyramus and Thisbe, they are very similar as they both end with terrible, terrible tragedies. Both these readings are known for being tragedies, which make them both so memorable. In Romeo and Juliet, Act V Scene III lines 307-310 the Prince says these concluding words, “Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things; some shall be pardoned, and some punished; for never was there a story of more woe, than this od Juliet and her Romeo.” That itself sums up that it is one of the greatest tragedies known to man. The same ending through misunderstandings leads to Pyramus and
The literature genius William Shakespeare concocted two great stories which are very much different stories, but have intertwined themes and personalities. These two stories are the romantic play of Romeo and Juliet and the story about the descent to madness, Macbeth. Both of these fantastic plays have overlying arches about loyalty, love, and power. Furthermore, both of these plays have glaring differences such as the wildly different character dynamics.
Pyramus and Thisbe had many similarities and differences between Romeo and Juliet. The stories similarities are that, they were both killed by a suicidal misunderstanding, and they were both separated by their parents hatred of each other. Their differences were that, Pyramus and Thisbe were separated by only a wall and could speak through it when Romeo and Juliet had to make secret visits to see each other. Romeo and Juliet killed themselves due to miscommunication and Pyramus and Thisbe killed himself because of confusion.
