Rosa Parks Traits

She was a very brave women. She started “ Bus Segregation “. Rosa was a nonviolent person and she took a stand to what she believed in. Both women were an inspiration to all women and blacks.

Rosa Parks is a civil rights activist and is a tragic hero known for her Strength, bravery, wisdom, peace and perseverance taking a major role in the Montgomery bus boycott and standing up against oppression, She and many others stood up for their rights, She refused to surrender her seat on a segregated Montgomery Alabama city bus on the day of December 1, 1955 which began the 381 day long Montgomery Bus Boycott which then helped launch the nation wide efforts to end segregation of public facilities.

Leadership. This is one on the many qualities that could be used to identify Rosa Parks. She was able to defeat seemingly impossible challenges and become a role model to others. Overcoming challenges is important because it can set an example for others.

She was a strong and determined civil rights activist who refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white person. She believed in rights for African Americans and had hope for the future she wanted. And when she refused to give up her seat, the bus driver had her arrested. She was later asked about her bold act, and said that “my refusal wasn’t because I was physically tired, but that I was tired of giving in.” Her attitude towards this dilemma sparked a rebellion against the oppression that was put upon African Americans and was called the Montgomery boycott. Which was when the black population of Montgomery boycotted the same bus company that racially discriminated Rosa Parks. This historical event was to be considered victorious, as 40,000 African Americans opted to walk to work instead of riding the bus, some even as far 20 miles. Even though Rosa Parks stood up for her rights she still suffered after the arrest. She lost her department store job and her husband was fired because he talked about Rosa’s legal case to his boss. They had to leave Montgomery because they could not find any other jobs, no one would hire her. They ended up moving to Detroit Michigan and she found a job as a secretary and receptionist in U.S. Representative John Conyers congressional office. She also started to serve on the board of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

To achieve her desired result, Rosa Parks used multiple tactics, such as perseverance, passion and courage. Firstly, Rosa used perseverance to succeed in what she believed in, despite her difficulties. For example, the website Academy of Achievement, shares that Rosa refused to give up her seat on the public bus to a white man, despite the Jim Crow laws. She knew it was not humane (Rosa). Thus, this point proves that Rosa persevered, despite the difficulties that had occurred. Secondly, Rosa was tired of the segregation on the public transportation buses. Rosa Parks faced a lot of challenges in her life like being african american.Challenges she had to face was like being called discrimination words.Rosa was pushed around because she was african american.If a white person wanted something she owned she pretty much had to give it to them.White people could go out and kill a black person if they wanted to and not get even a little bit if trouble for it.

Leadership, a ten letter word that sounds foreign to many. The word leadership is tossed around every day because everyone thinks they are leaders. America has encountered many great leaders that have helped build what the United States is today. Without leadership, the United States would not be so successful and equal as it is today. A lot of great people have worked hard to make America an equal land for all. Leadership is a character trait that is needed in America but few have the quality characteristics to lead: equality, righteousness, and perseverance.

“The only tired I was, was tired of giving in” (Parks). I was tired, tired of being oppressed, and tired of being stepped on by the law, and my fellow people. That was the only tired i felt. The Montgomery Bus protest sparked a fire that would be felt throughout the entire country, and it was the spark that ignited the fire of the civil rights movement that shook the world. The boycott was the first of it, once light was shown on the problem, she began travelling cross country spreading information about civil rights, and sparking more peaceful protest. Rosa Parks was an important figure that changed the direction of the United States of America. She was trying to get home from work that day, but she turned into an icon for the civil rights movement, and shined a light on the unfair treatment of african americans.

She was found guilty of violating the city’s laws,” (Green 2). Rosa Parks was truly a brave woman to be able to stand up for what she knows was right for her and her country. “Rosa Parks challenged the established order in Alabama at a time when many people were arguing about the future of segregation,” (Green 3). Parks’s family was afraid she might get hurt in some way because of how unsafe Montgomery was for African Americans. “Parks knew the risks when she defended her rights and was determined to do more for her community,” (Green 3).

Rosa wanted everyone to be free. When she got on the bus one day she decided to sit up front and she wasn’t allowed to. She was told by the bus driver that she needed to move to the back, she was told repeatedly to move back but yet never did. That day she was arrested and put into jail. She made an enormous change in the world by sticking up for herself and she made the world change for blacks by letting them know that they can make a difference for them and

Rosa Parks was the center of one of the greatest civil rights movements in the mid-20th-century.
