Two women played an indispensable role in my decision to study accounting and apply to the MAcc program: my mom and my college mentor. My mom is an avid reader and recommended that I read: Pipe Dreams: Greed, Ego, and the Death of Enron, which was my introduction to the world of business. Although I did not fully understand the underlying causes of the energy giant’s collapse, I was struck by the role that Arthur Andersen played. They failed to fulfill their obligation to conduct proper audits, and ultimately lost their CPA licenses. This sparked my curiosity about the role of auditors. I decided to major in accounting at the University of Hong Kong, which my mom encouraged.
Another stroke of luck on my path to applying to Ross MAcc was when the university appointed a mentor, Yan Xiaoyi. Yan was extremely

The attributes of the program, such as leadership development and integration with other programs, perfectly match with my professional needs. My short-term goal after graduation is working for a top accounting firm. Ross has a proven ability in teaching its students how to apply knowledge and combine it with corporate strategy, highly desired by top employers. In addition, the enormous career resources and a global alumni network will continue to facilitate my professional development long after graduation.
My long-term career goals involve taking on a leadership role, either in an accounting firm or in business. To achieve success later, I realize it is first necessary to thoroughly master the language of business, accounting. Leadership skills will come into play all along the way. I am eager to take workshops in the Sanger Leadership Center to develop my personal leadership style and learn how to interact with others who have different styles. This skill is particularly beneficial, as it will help me strategize how to collaborate with others more
My mother worked four jobs at once to make financial ends meet, while always stressing the importance of education and financial independence to my brother and myself. My grandmother only achieved a second grade education due to the financial constraints on her family at a young age, but still in the end managed to make certain that of her children and grandchildren had what was needed to flourish and become successful, educated members of the community. The tenacity and history of these two women I still carry with me today. Their struggles have inspired to me to only want more from life, but also serve as a positive role model for the younger members of my community. I observed from other family members how an education can open a multitude of doors and opportunities. I want to make the biggest and most significant on my community and on my family as possible, and the only foreseeable path is to achieve a college education to gain the necessary skills, knowledge and connections needed to flourish and implement positive
Learning how to be a leader in all types of situations has been one of the most important skills which I have acquired. The most important growth in my leadership skills was through 4-H where I served as President, 1st Vice President, and various other positions. I learned valuable public speaking skills from a lawyer who was teaching a public speaking class and was able to apply this in the various duties I undertook as leader of my club. Now I step into leadership roles with confidence, trusting my ability to work with and lead everyone in the group. When I join the scholars at the Hankamer School of Business, I will be able to fulfill any leadership positions necessary with confidence, whether it be in a small group or large group
Leadership skills are vital for success and what better way to acquire them than through
I have found my interests gravitating largely towards alternative methods of profit maximization, entrepreneurship, and global economics. The RBS prerequisites that I have completed, along with those I am currently enrolled have bolstered my business acumen and fortified my passion for finance. I come from a diverse high school and RBS affords me that comfort of home. A demographically and academically diverse
Education is one of the most valuable things a person can have access to, and I cherish my opportunity to come to a university such as this one. Being in the Quinlan Business Honors Learning Community with an expedited graduation date has meant putting in more time and effort than the average student. However, I am incredibly proud of all I have learned and achieved in the last three semesters.
Ann Arbor has been ranked by Forbes as one of the best cities in the country to work, allowing for endless internships and postgraduate opportunities. As an innovator, I can envision Ross and I being serving in a mutually beneficial relationship. In short, Ross will be a good fit for me and I will be a good fit for Ross. Should I be granted admission, I intend on taking the knowledge I learn in the classroom out to the real world. Overall, as a focused and driven student, the Stephen M. Ross School of Business is the ideal place to help me pursue my goals and increase my knowledge in my academic
To conclude, Miami Dade College offers innumerable opportunities, not only to its valued students, but also to its employees. Miami Dade College is a family of change makers and enthusiasts who always aim for greatness. Miami Dade has been the catalyst in my synthesis as a competitive student who refuses to stand still and watch innovation from a distance. This school has taught me to embrace change and adapt to quickly changing situations, since that is what constitutes life. My life has been a chain of events that lead to bigger events, and my stay in the college has been the biggest event that culminated in the fusion of a hardworking, perseverant, competitive, indebted young person with the right tools to flourish. I’m successful because
I fell in love with politics at the age of 10, the year was 2004, and I liked John Kerry because he shared my name. I also supported him because my father, at the time, was supporting George W. Bush and I was a rather antagonistic child. Over time I’ve certainly become more nuanced in the candidates I support, but that year began a lifetime journey into a field that is ever changing, ever competitive, and that impacts so many lives.
Hours upon end are spent, face buried in a laptop or newspaper, analyzing stock dividends and bonds yields. Warren Buffett books and Wall Street Journal editions - a glimpse of the night stand that has well deservedly earned me the label “business nerd” by family and friends. I have, if not an obsession, a passion for studying finance. Aspiring to work in Investment Banking, I applied to Ross as it provides excellent exposure to the world of finance through premiere recruiting opportunities and a well-constructed business curriculum that merges the science of economics with the cultivation of leadership. At Michigan, freshman students are subject to a liberal arts curriculum, which I believe can benefit me in becoming a well-rounded student. Although I have a passion for finance, I cannot imagine isolating my studies to one subject for four years of school. In my Sophomore year, I would dive into financial studies such as accounting and business strategy; but Ross also emphasizes the ‘positive decisions’ course, which interests me because it acknowledges the impact that economic decisions have on society. Coming from a middle class background, I find it important to acknowledge the effect that the cost of living or price of gas have on family finances. Ross’s Junior and Senior curriculums step past the theoretical studies of economics and into the real world application of business skills, such as ‘communication strategy’ and ‘corporate strategy.’ I believe exposure to a collaborative environment in these years can assist me in cultivating a team
Why have you chosen to apply to the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business? What are your short and long-term career objectives? How will the program assist you in pursuing your career objectives?
After introduction to the CEO class, I am excited to explore the program. After listening to the St. Anthony student's presentation, it became more evident this was for me. As a hardworking, committed student, I know I possess what it takes to be a CEO Student.
I’ve been to 4 international schools and met people from all across the globe. In the HOBY seminar, I’ll be able to meet other leaders from multiple backgrounds to discover different leadership skills. I’ll use my newfound skills in Business Club to make my goal as a future business leader possible. I’m intrigued to develop my communication skills and learn how to build better relationships in order to strengthen the outcome of cooperation. Although I’m new to Cranbrook this year, I’m determined to contribute to the Cranbrook community likewise. Furthermore, I’m a risk taker; I usually don’t participate in events like HOBY, but this time, I challenged myself to seize an opportunity where I’m given the potential to improve as a leader. Cranbrook is full of excellent students, thus my role as a leader would be to guide them to use their talent in a positive and beneficial way. The seminar will instruct me on how to be a leader of action, not position. I am confident that the HOBY seminar will be extremely awarding to both my community and
Young, ambitious women from all over the country participated in this program, full of innovative classes and discussions about business, which were lead by Kelley professors. The experience on IU’s campus was unforgettable and is one of the main reasons I hope to attend IU. If admitted into IU, I hope to receive direct admission into Kelley School of Business and double-major in Business and International Relations, and minor in Spanish. I plan on studying abroad and continuing studying foreign languages to increase my understanding of international cultures. I value Kelley’s method of education that forces its students to be eclectic through its innovative I-Core program that focuses on four different perspectives of business: Finance, Management, Marketing, and Operations. One of my goals while on campus is to live in the Kelley Living Learning Center so I can meet with people with similar passions for business, as well as learn to network amongst my peers. My main academic goals at IU would be to enroll in the Hutton Honors College, Kelley Honors programs, and Kelley’s Women in Business program. As a woman, I understand that power isn’t given to you, you must work for it, and Kelley embodies
I believe that developing leadership skills is not a rapid process, but it is a daily process. The best place people learn how to lead is from their daily experiences. Therefore, my job experience helped me to be more familiar with this topic and I gained additional worthy information from the class materials and lessons. Writing a biography was an amazing experience that helped me to look back in my life, review it in details, know what I did in the past and discover myself better. I did many of the book’s assessments and exercises and I found them totally thought-provoking and useful materials. They assisted me to think more about my leadership potentials and skills. Doing the exercises made me more aware of my strengths and weaknesses in the area of leadership. I read in the book about 10 qualities that mark a leader and help influence the leadership process. Those qualities listed as: vision,
