All Ryanites, ranging from the Volksryanischen, the Bourgeoisie, foreign students from other countries such as Canada, the Catholic School Nobility, and even the Wise Man himself, were all affected in some way or another by the actions taken by the RGA and the Catholic School Underground. Hardly anyone was not affected by it, and most tried to do whatever they could to stay out of it. The Ryanites within the Greater American Catholic School System were the ones most unaffected by it, but due to Brotzmanskrieg occurring in the other school systems, it was a big far cry for the Volksryanischen. Eventually, they too would share the same circumstances that the Volksryanischen had. Existing between the crossfire, more Volksryanischen took sides …show more content…
As with all forms of idealism, the fiery furnace of truth roars the hellish fires of reality on such idealistic ways, testing its validity in accordance to Natural Law. For those who did not live up to such standards, they were reduced to nothing more than pure slag – the most worthless type of iron. The Ryanites, especially those who seriously believed in the Plaid Dream, believed that actual evidence of the Republic Program’s effectiveness was needed, aside from making mere personal testimonies. And in the eyes of most Ryanites at the time, this could only be done on their part through acting in the service of one’s …show more content…
Curious as to why they were standing at the locker of her buyer, she asked the three boys, “Have any of you seen “Walton” by any chance?”
Of the three boys, who were all looking at the Plaid Jungfrau, two of them shook their heads. The third boy, who was leaning on the buyer’s locker with his arms, stopped leaning on it, and addressed the girl with a straight face. “I’m sorry, who wants to know?”
“Well, he said he wanted to learn about the triumphant glories of the Republic Program, and Holy Mother Church,” Heidi lied. She only did so in order to remain on the safe side. “Because it just so happens, that not only am I a Roman Catholic, I also happened to be a Ryanite, prior to attending this school.”
“Oh great, as if we really needed another follower of the Whore of Babylon.” the boy rolled his eyes, pejoratively referring to the Catholic Church, as his two buddies snickered and sneered in contempt. “Don’t tell me, you also happened to be one of those uncouth Curly stuck-up types that Kraut Harold Brotzman loves?”
“Nice of you to mention,” Heidi added, “For it just so happened that I was not worthy enough to be considered an actual member of the Catholic School Nobility, back when I was still
Behind the ideology of every person “proud to be an American” lies the major tenets of the quintessential American dream. The America seen today is not the same as it was 50 years prior, so how can one expect the central “dream” to be the same? In fact, each person has developed an opinion on what the American dream may mean for him/her. For one, the dream may still be the white picket fence still life from so many years ago, but for another, it may be the accumulation of riches and fame. In Jon Krakauer’s Into the Wild, he shows us that Chris McCandless cared not for the quotidian rat-race that he had grown so accustomed to, but more about the intricacies that the natural world had to offer. I believe that although Chris McCandless may
Similarly, I am seen as a very religious girl at Hempfield. Coming from a Catholic school, I entered Hempfield with the label of being a ‘Catholic school girl’. Like Rebecca, I enjoy being known for living for Christ. Rebecca goes over and above for her religion by taking her relationship with God outside of the church. Equivalently, I am heavily involved in other faith based clubs and organizations such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes, for which I am the Captain of, and Christians
Eventually, Brenda and her father made it to Virginia on the morning of the 22nd of March, parking their car at the driveway of the Brotzman residence. It was an average looking house that matched the aesthetics of the houses near the only Catholic high school in the city of Arlington, Bishop Dowell High School. Getting out of the car, the father and the daughter went to the front door. From there, the father knocked on the door. Soon after, the door was opened by the Godmother, wearing her Bishop Dowell uniform, who was surprised by the arrival of unrecognizable guests. Brenda, who obviously was not a Ryanite, was amazed by the sight of the taller blonde girl wearing a royal blue golf shirt (with silver colored school insignia on left breast), a khaki skort that was about one inch above the knee, white knee socks, and a pair of black oxfords. The girl’s hair was tied back with a royal blue colored ribbon, and her dark blue eyes were staring into Brenda’s own.
Even with the most comprehensive first-hand sources, the aforementioned peculiarities and the reported activities of both the Underground and the RGA, the existence of the Plaid Curtain is rarely known by most normal people. In the case of some Ryanites, from the Volksryanischen and the Bourgeoisie, all the way to the Curlies and the Harries, the whole concept eventually became considered another noteworthy addition to the GUBU that occurs within the American Catholic School System’s four hundred year
Jon Krakauer, author of ‘Into the Wild’, takes the reader on Chris McCandless’ primitive expedition. Christopher Johnson McCandless, a recent college graduate and son of a prosperous east coast family, has become spiritually ill. Driven by his need to make a new life for himself he revises his name to Alexander Supertramp, and continues on his heroic quest to become an autonomous living soul. Krakauer and his experience in the Alaskan wilderness gives the reader insight as to why McCandless naive idealism may have cost him his life. In America, many adolescents believe that life comes without hardship or sacrifice. However, McCandless would have otherwise and seeks refuge in the wild, whereas others may be too appeased to experience the wilderness
Regan describes her as “a devout Christian” who had very little time to herself between school,
"My parents are not here." Akki spoke lower than he originally had, lying though his teeth. The boy eyes widen realized what he had done. Dragging Akki out of the crowd, the female followed behind.
“I’ll try to get in first,” he explained. “I’m on good terms with some of the residents here.” He knocked on the door a few times, and then began to call. “Dodi? Graverobber? Tessa? Anyone?”
“I don't know anything about where I’m at, who you are, where you’re taking me, where my family is, or if they’re okay,” I said shyly.
“Count me and the Dominion out of it,” said Augustus. “From what I can tell, I don’t even think you were going to offer us the blueprints and the prototype that the Greens said you were…And all I was going to get in return is a Ryanite flag made out of strips of plaid. Of course, you could just attack me and the people to my right, but like I said to you earlier, is it really worth the amount of buckshot in that shotgun of yours? It’s your
“Hey, it’s okay!” she cooed, “I won’t hurt you!” She confessed, as the boy looked to have started to calm down. “What’s your name?” she
“Yes?” Harkens didn’t even bother turning. He didn’t know who the kid was or what he wanted, and right now he didn’t really care.
“I do not think you have ever mentioned it, but your father was a good man. The people of Luneos admired him.”
“Damn, I know that. I had a teacher that was sorry for my mother for all the grief I caused her for being born.”
The quest for the ideal is a phenomenon that many people attempt to achieve. As we all know, the quest for the ideal is difficult and complicated by personal experience. The poems, “The Story” by Karen Connelly and the “The Love Song of J.Aflred Prufrock”, by T.S Elliot, as well as the essay “Kant’s Beauty and the Sublime” by Maureen Rousseau explore the peril inherent in the quest for the ideal, which is that in our search for beauty we risk encountering the sublime. The danger of the sublime is that we cannot comprehend the magnitude of the realms of things that are sublime. We ask ourselves why someone would want to risk encountering the sublime. Well, with great risk comes great reward and that is the beauty we
