Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska was born Helena Kowalska on August 25, 1905 in Głogowiec, Poland. Helena’s family was very religious, so she and her nine siblings grew up with an understanding of the Catholic faith, despite their immense poverty. It was apparent that she was deeply interested in Catholicism from a very young age. She first attended Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at the impressionable age of seven. From there, her love of prayer and devotion to the Lord only increased. She celebrated her first Holy Communion at age nine. Helena only had a three-year education. Right when she got out of school, she wanted to enter a convent. However, her parents refused to give her permission. Once she became old enough, Helena got a job as a housekeeper to support herself and her family. She never could have expected the coming wonders the Lord had in store for her. Around 1924, Helena had the privilege of experiencing her first vision of Christ. She was at a dance with her sister when she saw an image of Jesus covered in wounds from his suffering on the cross. Helena rushed to a cathedral and began to pray. There, she heard a voice tell her to leave immediately and set off for a convent in Warsaw, Poland. In 1931, she had another vision of Christ, this time of him wearing a white outfit with pale and red colored rays coming from his heart. This would be known as the Divine Mercy image of Jesus. He asked Sister Faustina to be his apostle of mercy and be an exceptional example of how to show others mercy. After being advised to do so by her spiritual counselor, she recorded this image in her diary, along with many following enncounters with Christ. One of her other visions was of Jesus telling her to have someone create a painting of him as the King of Divine Mercy. Throughout the years, Sister Faustina continued to speak to Christ and acted as his advocate for
Another quality I wanted in a Confirmation Saint was for me to have a great interest in her. The fact that made her the most compelling saint was, she found the Cross of Jesus. In the year 326 Helen traveled to Jerusalem after having a dream about the location of the
I am choosing St. Anastasia because she made it through tough times with her faith always in God. St. Anastasia was not canonized, she has been declared a saint by the early Christian community based on her life of heroic virtue and her martyrdom. St. Anastasia spent her time caring for the prisoners. She would feed them and care for them if they were ill. The prisoners she cared for were not there for any violent crimes, but were locked up for being Christian. A virtue that I identitfy with St. Anastasia is charity because I help people that are in need and out of the kindness of my heart. St. Anastasia was so self-less about helping other people, even if it meant risking her life. Her father was a pagan and her mother was secretly a

There were many people and organizations influential with radical revolutionaries that were present during the late 18 hundreds in Russia. One of these radical revolutionaries was Elizaveta Kovalskaia. She was influenced early one in her life, “I was barely six when I became aware that there were landowners and peasant serfs in the world; that landowners could sell people.”# She would grow as a revolutionary seeing the differences between methods of what did and didn’t work. She was very critical of the methods that she believed were ineffective. The other side of this coin is the effective methods that she utilized. The way Kovalskaia presents her experiences argues that her methods as a radical revolutionary were the right ones.
