There has been many controversies around the world claiming that America’s gun laws are out of date and that it violates the Second Amendment. Although to back this up German Lopez from Vox states that, America is known for having some of the weakest gun laws in the entire world. He also states that making it easier to obtain a gun, will end up making things a whole lot worse (Lopez). Firearms are not something to be played with, and being able to get them with just a click of a button or walking into a gun show does not make the people around the world feel any better about the situation. There is a difference between a good guy with a gun and a bad guy with a gun. Wayne LaPierre once stated, the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun (Cohen). Which is anything but true. Almost three years ago, this argument was put to test. According to Michael Cohen two “bad guys” shot and killed two police officers, but in the eyes of the NRA, they were once “good guys” until they used their guns to do “bad things”. Although they did not stop there , they headed to the local Walmart to finish what they had started with the police. On the inside there was a good guy whose name is not to be mentioned. He had a concealed carry permit and a gun on his side. He chose to approach one of the armed bad
The issue of gun control begins with the careless distribution of firearms and how easy they are to obtain. In the United States, many mass killings by gunmen in civilian settings set
Gun ownership is embedded in the fabric of America. The United States has the highest gun ownership rate in the world with 88 guns per 100 people. This is a staggering amount of firearms in the U.S. which our forefathers would 've never imagined when writing the 2nd Amendment. The 2nd Amendment states that “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Not everyone interprets this right the same way. Regulating and restricting the use of these firearms brings up opposing sentiments from those in favor of gun control and those who oppose
The banning of firearms in America is an illegal act, and degrades the values this country was founded on. They not only play a vital role in many people's lives, but are useful tools, fun to use, and can protect people from harm. Our founding fathers wanted us to have them to protect ourselves from the government, and would be disgusted at our government's current abuse, and overall disregard of the constitution of the United States. A lot of people argue that guns kill people; this is untrue. Guns in the hands of a negligent person have potential to kill people, just as anything else.
Background checks for gun buyers were implemented a year and a half ago, more than 4,600 people who were supposed to be prevented from buying guns bought them anyway because their
Gun violence in America is a huge topic of discussion. Many people have heard about this topic on the news or in the newspaper, but have very little knowledge on this ongoing topic. Those who have a lack of information on gun control tend to not feel strongly towards guns or people owning or carrying guns. People that have never been around guns are often scared of them, but the truth is a gun is nothing more than a hunk of metal. For a gun to go off the gun needs a shooter, so should the real topic of discussion be “Should there be stricter gun laws for the owner?” However, in the United States it isn’t very difficult to obtain or own a gun. Guns are very common in America and anybody could simply sell their firearm to another person with the ending result of now anybody can own a gun. (Degrazia 2) “The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act mandates background checks of gun buyers, but only if the seller is a licensed dealer; private sales, including those at gun shows and those conducted online, are exempt.” Degrazia states that anyone can get a gun without having a background check, this including anyone over 18. Being able to purchase firearms easily in America can be a serious topic of discussion because many people are getting killed with firearms, school shootings are on a rise, however in zones where guns by law have to be in every household the crime rate is significantly lower than surrounding areas.
Americans love guns, we love our second amendment rights and we strongly oppose those who try and take them away. Guns provide significant help for individual protection, but we need to stop handing them out guns like there is a war. The second amendment was implemented when we were still worried about the British taking us over, that is why Americans were allowed to have a gun, in case we need to call up the militia, but those days are over. Horrendous policies and politicians looking out for themselves, taking donation from weapons companies has lead to America having an extremely high gun crime rate. American’s have an abundance of gun related issues due to inadequate restrictions, insufficient political support, and the media’s influence. A change needs to be made in the form of restrictions, and new policies to better our society.
There are currently over 200 million guns in use, which means obtaining a gun in the United States mustn't be that hard. If gun usage could be regulated more by banning certain unneeded weapons to the public and requiring a more in depth background check, than miss usage of guns, and deaths caused by them would decrease. However, already existing laws need to be enforced and harsher penalties for those who don't follow the laws. If the country would agree on certain legislation for gun control, than The United States could be a much safer
In the year 2016 alone, there have been 145 mass shootings around the United States, while there have been only 173 days in the years so far. In order to prevent these atrocities from occurring so frequently gun ownership should be regulated by both the federal and state governments through a background check for all sales of firearms. The National Instant Criminal Background Check System has prevented more than two million convicted felons and other prohibited purchasers from buying guns. The law also has a deterrent effect since the prohibited purchasers are less likely to try to buy guns when they know comprehensive background check requirements are in place. However, currently the federal law requires criminal background checks only for guns sold through licensed firearm dealers, which counts for only sixty percent of the total gun sales. The U.S. Congress needs to regulate the obtainment of guns with a background check for all sales of firearms in order to protect the lives of citizens in this country while not violating the Second Amendment and the rights of the state.
Guns have been around for a very long time. People love being able to have the freedom to do what they want, especially when they can possess something that make them feel superior. The introduction of the Second Amendment opens up the controversial, yet well anticipated opportunity for United State citizens to be able to own guns. Americans enjoy the benefit of being able to own guns for decades over people in other countries. People can buy guns and carry them around in public. They own guns for many reasons such as to hunt, to protect themselves, and simply to satisfy their desire of owning a gun, but in recent years, the issue of people carry guns has become a problem. There are so many people get killed by guns in different parts of
When looking to purchase a weapon one must pass what is known as a background check. The gun retailer typically makes a phone call to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and they go through a history of any possible serious crimes the particular individual has been involved with. Those with a serious criminal background are not approved and therefore can’t purchase firearms, individuals who have clean slates pass and are able to purchase firearms. In recent years there have been a few incidents where the government
More than 30,000 people are killed by firearms in the U.S per year, just let that sink in. Guns are one of the most lethal weapons in the world, all you need is a push of a trigger and boom someone could be dead. All though they are dangerous, in the U.S it is very easy to gain access to firearms due to the Second Amendment. This amendment states that every individual has the right to bear arms and it can not be broken. Personally I believe that we shouldn't give guns to just anyone just because it was written in the Bill of Rights 220 years ago that everyone should be able to own a gun. Times have changed since then I think we should reconsider the amendment, don't get me wrong I'm not saying we should completely ban them I'm just saying we
The system for obtaining firearms needs reform it should be more difficult to acquire a firearm than it is currently. Updated gun control is a necessity. Purchasing a gun from a private seller creates loopholes for gun buyers. A person can purchase a gun from a private seller at a gun show and is not required to undergo a background check. Federal law mandates that licensed dealers must do background checks but private sellers are not required to run them. Some states require background
Gun Control Part I:Introduction The issue of gun control and violence, both in Canada and the United States, is one that simply will not go away. If history is to be any guide, no matter what the resolution to the gun control debate is, it is probable that the arguments pro and con will be much the same as they
When it comes to the United States, (U.S), the majority of the American people love their seconded amendment rights. As stated in the textbook, Constitutional Law and the Criminal Justice System by J. Scott Harr, Karen M. Hess, Christine Orthmann, the second amendment of the United States Constitution, for the most part, protects the U.S. citizens rights to “keep and bear arms” (Harr, Hess, Orthmann, & Kingsbury, 2015, p. 167). That being said, each state in the U.S. will vary in their firearms laws. For instance, some states make it easier for their residence to purchase or use a firearm; other states may have stricter laws that require a more scrutinized screening process. To be more specific, most states vary in elements, such as the exceptions to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, the waiting period on purchasing firearms; if someone needs a license to own or purchase a gun; if registration is required; and if a record of the firearm sales is sent to the local police. Other factors that will differ from state to state would include, if some firearms are permitted or not allowed to be sold or owned by a state, the concealed carry laws, hunter protection laws; range protection laws, and finally, not all states have firearm injury lawsuit preemption.
America's Gun control laws should be more strict in regulating the availability of firearms. The lenient gun control laws in America cause a higher risk of criminals committing acts of violence with guns, rather than preventing them. It is not difficult to buy guns in America. Background checks for purchasing firearms only take minutes, but when purchasing a gun from a gun show it is not
